why did you hate DS9? I mean, the first two seasons are not great, but I find that with every star trek series the first couple of seasons they're finding their footing (see: TNG) and then they excel after that. DS9 is my favorite. The character development is fabulous and there's a couple characters from TNG as well. I never got into TOS too much, but I've been thinking of giving it another shot. I'd say my favorite character is Seven of Nine.

thanks, I wanted something not common as a name for them. No plans just some things to do this week. Monday: vet and picking up cake. Tuesday: cake day Wednesday: dentist. Other then that no plans .

Navi was adopted and her name is from her previous owner who named her after the Zelda character.

Peep was also adopted and he was named by his previous owner's son. It seems like he had a thing about naming them after food as his twin sister was named Lemon (she passed away a year or two back).

I bought Ghost for my husband and he named her after her white color. What makes her name funny is he didn't realize I got her on Halloween XD

Jorah is named after Jorah Mormont from Game of Thrones. He's my favorite character from the show.

Edit: Peep and Lemon were both yellow.

My friend is dealing with a nasty gnat problem. It started in the kitchen and moved to other rooms in the house. She and her family have used traps and other home remedies to get rid of them. Gnats are being killed by these things, but more gnats just pop up to take their place. I think now the only solution is to use pesticides designed for killing gnats.

Anyone know of any bug sprays that can kill gnats?

- i can't think of anything specific but i would think something for flies would work. only brand name i can think of is raid. - hon, that is the definition of a neighborhood. income level doesn't matter. i'm thinking the developer is a wanker who did it because the area is low income and unlikely to complain . awesome! a halloween bird! is jora your fav character because of his loyalty? i know you haven't read the books so i'll keep quiet but you really should read them. lol my fav character is ari stark. she has one heck of a journey. he needs to write the last 2 books. o.o - i watched tos with my dad growing up so it has a special place in my heart, bad acting and all. lol when tng 2nd episode was a tribute to tos i was sold. love voyager too. as for ds9, i just couldn't get through the first season. odo got on my last nerve. i know dax went from tng to ds9 but i didn't like how his story ended on tng and that colored my view of the character on ds9. honestly, the doc was wrong in her rejection of daxsimply because his gender changed and it left them both heart broken. it was soooooo sad. i can understand why you like 7 of 9 . when she walked on the set everyone's jaw hit the floor. plus, the actress who portrayed her was very good. i know there is another star trek show based on kirk's early life - have you seen it? i've heard it stinks bad acting plus it ignores canon. i haven't gotten around to watching it. - i'm going to watch it now. happy early birthday to you! good luck with the dentist. :)

Hi! OMG! We had a TERRIBLE problem and tried everything too. Gnats and huge flies. (Not horseflies, just huge regular ones.) This year was the worst I've ever seen. Really bad outside, and they came in every time we opened a door, and I swear used osmosis through the walls and windows... Ugh! The best we found so far was those nasty strips and flyswatters. The strips did work, esp for the gnats, we just can't get enough. Also need to hang them horizontally and use push pins to attach to ceilings, esp by lights, and tape under cabinets. We were really worried my cats would get into them, and get poisoned, though, so tell your friend to be careful. We still have some of both gnats and flies, but nothing like we did. Thank God! If I could have afforded one, I'd have bought a good electric zapper for outside my door. They actually have indoor ones too, but I couldn't think of buying those because of my cats. Oh, haven't tried it yet, also because I'm broke all the time, but they have those yellow outdoor bulbs too. They don't attract bugs, so that might help some.

My friend has the strips in the kitchen. It's catching them, but there are still a LOT of them flying around whenever she goes to the sink (that's where they congregate). Recently she left a white Styrofoam cup unattended for about a half hour and when she came back about TWENTY of those gnats had just congregated on the rim of the cup. Yikes!

How long did it take you to get control of your gnat problem?

I've heard Raid may not be that effective on gnats...I'm not sure.

Couple months, at least, not sure. But they are still here just far less. Oh, I forgot about the sink. You have to keep pouring vinegar with water or Lysol down the sink. Occasionally I did bleach with water too, but that is really bad for pipes. Esp mine which are pvc. I did find that apple cider vinegar in those little plastic apples helped somewhat. But not nearly enough. I hate gnats and flies! They are freaking nasty. You can't leave anything out uncovered at all. Even a plate and silverware waiting on something in the microwave. Growl and shudder

[edit] Oh and Raid and Lysol spray is mostly effective in the trash and recycle, and sprayed on the ceiling when desperate, but obviously can't be used on any other surface.

I hope you get things get worked out. Recently I had a moth problem in my house. It drove my husband nuts.

What I've learned from book readers is that Jorah in the books and Jorah in the show are two different characters. The show's version is not only loyal to Dany but is willing to be by her side no matter if she decides to get with him or not. The type of guy that would be like that in real life is one in a million.

Plus Iain Glen is really easy on the eyes XD

I will read the books only if Martin actually finishes them. I'm not spending countless months reading only to be left on a cliffhanger.

That's where I thought Jorah was named from. Jorah Mormont is a fantastic character. He felt very real to me, like the decisions he made were very human. (I only have watched the show.) He was loyal to her but still made his initial mistakes and paid for them.

I think that was a separate Trill in TNG. Worf is in DS9 but Dax is not in TNG as far as I know. That was a sad episode though, with the doctor and that Trill. No, I haven't even heard of this other show! I can't find anything on google about it, I wonder what it is. I think I liked Seven because she was so oblivious, and not acting the norm because she was still learning, much like Data. I hear that they are charatcters that neurodivergent people identify with, which is a newish term to me but I guess applies because I have ADHD and possibly some other things. So it makes sense that I like Seven, Data, Odo, and Spock for that reason.

Are you talking about the episode The Host? The one where the doctor falls in love with the Trill and then they have to get a new host and it's a female? Yes, that is not Dax! Wikipedia tells me the Trill's name is Odan. Maybe you'll give DS9 another try now? lol. Jadzia Dax is an amazing character and they actually go into her past hosts in a couple of episodes.

Borax to kill gnats? How does that work?

They're pretty small; my friend's family has always called them gnats. Some flies have gotten into their house on occasion, though. You can tell because you hear buzzing when a fly is flying around. Pretty annoying; at least the gnats are quiet.....

- yes, that's the episode and trill i'm talking about. i looked it up on wiki and feel so stupid that i made that connection when there was no connection at all. rofl now that my brain is sort of working after that lightening revelation, i looked up the shows and was incorrect yet again.there are 3 shows: enterprise, discovery, and (i think this is the show's name but am not sure - wiki wasn't clear) picard. none of them have anything to do with kirk. don't now where to find enterprise but discovery and picard (i think) are on netflix. having hubby add them to the queue. yes, i'll give ds9 another go. this time i'll force myself to watch past season 1. i completely understand why you like 7 of 9, it's the same reason i like spock. :D

fruit flies are small and like to congregate on drinking glasses in my experience. I vacuumed mine up and then got the rest with a jar, with apple cider vinegar and a couple drops of dish soap in it, and plastic wrap with small holes poked in the top. The holes let them fly in but then they can't find their way out. The ACV attracts them and the dish soap breaks the surface tension so when they fall in they can't get back out. Sorry if that's been tried already, it's what worked for me though.

Alternatively, my aunt had small gnat like bugs living in her plants and gave some to my mom on accident. Did your friend recently get a new plant? Something like diatomaceous earth or kitty litter will keep them from laying their eggs in the wet soil.

discovery and Picard are on Netflix?! What do I subscribe to CBS for then lol!

Actually just looked, I see all the old ones (Enterprise included) but none of the new ones (I'm in the US). I've seen Picard, it's good, I haven't finished season 3 of discovery yet though. Enterprise is endearing in a way because they're the first ones, pre federation, but it's also very influenced by 9/11 and it kinda shows.

Give DS9 until like season 3, or maybe just skip to that point and go back and watch the early seasons after you are into it! The main story arcs don't come in until around then I think.
