Animorphs is a book series that ran from 1996-2001. It was science fiction and aimed at Young Adults, though it holds up well now that I'm an adult.
The series is about five teenagers who are granted the ability to morph by a dying alien so they can fight off an invading alien force. Eventually there is a sixth member added.
I would recommend ignoring the tv show as it's nothing like the books. There are official audio books out and now the series is getting comic book adaptations with the second book coming out later this year :)
-i was wondering if you were refering to the tv series. i had no idea it started with a book series. since it has audio books , i'm going to add it to my "to read " list. i don't mind that kind of sci-fi. it's the technical sci-fi that i can't get through. i really don't care exactly how many sprockets a certain device needs to function. lol actually, my fav sci-fi is heinlein. read them all and wish he'd lived longer to write more. :)
The tv show made some changes due to budget reasons because for some reason they didn't go animated instead. Such as the design of the Hork-Bajir is completely different in the books and Visser Three stayed in his Andalite form the majority of the time because he hated morphing human. Then some plots would be completely beyond the budget of the show such as a few times the Animorphs went on alien planets.
Others were just...odd...such as Tobias was a big part of pushing Jake to fight and be the leader. At one point Tobias does physically push Jake in frustration. While in the tv show he is just the stereotypical loner that avoids the group at first and doesn't like to speak up.
Then there's the fact that the darker aspects of the series were changed to be more 'child friendly'. That isn't to say the books are always dark such as the opening of is funny as heck and one of my favorite opening scenes of the series.
Edit: I don't mind the more hard sci-fi as long as there's a good story with it.
Is it ?
“Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are.” - Benjamin Franklin
"Woe to those who make unjust laws, to those who issue oppressive decrees, to deprive the poor of their rights and withhold justice from the oppressed of my people, making widows their prey and robbing the orphan." - Isaiah 10:1-2
- holy guacamole, batman. you really like the animorphs. i can understand that levvel of liking. i'm def going to add them cause now i'm curious. i can only think of 2 examples where my liking wa/is the same. the first is with the bones tv series vs the bones books. two totally different worlds where the tv show only used the names and occupations of the books main characters and did everything else differently. i was rather irritated over that but came to like them both in the end. the second example hasn't happened completely yet. a tv show has been made of robert jordan's wheel of time book series and i'm aawaiting it anxiously. i really want it to follow the books letter by letter but i also know deep inside that they won't. so i know i'll be disappointed, i just don't know how much yet.
I'm very active in the Animorphs fandom. I'm doing a dramatic reading of my own...but haven't been able to work on it much this year as I've been too sick. Hoping by the end of the year I can resume my normal blogging schedule and will be able to cover two chapters a week again. I'm also an admin on an Animorphs Facebook group. So...yeah...I'm a little bit obsessive over itXD
I haven't read the Wheel of Time books yet and will be waiting to hear from book fans how it compares. Hoping it is a good adaptation as I do want to watch the show and read the books XD
- i'm sorry you're sick. being sick is never fun. especially if it causes you to forgo the things you like. may i ask what other books you like? i'm a book -a-holic and love to hear what others are reading and what they think about it. i've never gotten into blogging although i had to do it for a uni class. i may try it again but i'm not sure how to go about it yet. a dramatic reading? how does that work? is it you reading aloud to an audience? that sounds like it would be fun to hear but i'm way too shy to do something like that.
- happy monday afternoon to you. lol :P
I mainly read science fiction and fantasy. Currently I'm reading Blood of Elves which is a book in the Witcher series. After that I'll go back to re-reading The Dresden series or finally read another Dune book for my a review. My Dune reviews have also been slowed down because I'm sick XD
Thing I hate about reviewing the Dune prequels is that I have to take really good notes as the Dune wiki tends to avoid going into them in any great detail.
Blood of Elves isn't heavy on the action front but it is a very good read as the characters are interesting and I care about them. Geralt is also a lot more talkative in the books than in the Netflix show.
The Dresden Files doesn't tend to take itself seriously all the time. Harry Dresden is sarcastic and as the books are told in first person, he sometimes doesn't describe the scenes honestly XD
I've been blogging since a little after I graduated from college. At first it was just something to pass the time as I don't have a job. Now I take it more seriously and am constantly trying to improve. I tend to get more content out when I'm doing good health wise.
I do my dramatic reading by reading into my webcam and people listen in. I'll admit that when I first started doing videos I was shy but I've grown more comfortable. Now that I use a webcam I don't have to wear pants! I will always hate the sound of my recorded voice XD
hahaha lol And now it's teusday afternoon.
Just got home from work. Went and get my Too Good To Go box from the supermarket loads of veggies and fruits in it and that for €3,- Cheap and good stuff.
- happy tuesday afternoon to you. :D so, what book are you reading right now? - i've read the witcher series. never saw the tv show. hubby saw a couple of episodes and said all geralt did was grunt. so not like the books at all so i've never watched it. the part i liked the most about blood of elves was that all those manly witchers in that hidden fort had absolutely no idea what to do with a girl child. lol i'm really curious about how the dresden files ended as the tv show just stopped and there was no resolution of the plot since you read mainly sci-fi/fantasy, have you ever read joe abercrombie (first law trilogy), steven ericsson (malazan book of the dead), brandon sanderson (stormlight archives),or brian mcclellan (powder mage trilogy)? they are some of my favorite fantasy authors. rofl @ pants remark. how can you keep a straight face knowing you have no pants on? i'd be turning about 568 shades of red and wouldn't be able to keep myself from laughing.
I've read The Last Wish and think the show made some good changes for the medium. Mainly making certain stories more visually stimulating. At least for the stories mentioned in that one. But I can understand it if you don't want to watch the show because of the differences. Though the first season did leave out my favorite story from the book XD
Has your husband watched the animated Witcher prequel movie Netflix put out? I've heard book readers being divided on whether or not it follows book canon.
And, yeah, Tris comes in and finally talks sense into them XD
The Dresden Files books haven't ended and there were two books released last year hence the re-read.
And, from what I've heard, the show is really different from the books so I won't be watching it. Harry carries around a staff and not a hockey stick. Bob is an air elemental that is trapped inside a skull and never appears as an actual person. Bianca is an enemy and is never in a romantic and/or physical relationship with Harry. While Harry is horny, he hardly has sex as he only has sex with women he is serious with. Since White Court Vampires can't feed off someone who is in true love it helps save him at certain points and when he takes up another lover indicates that something is up with the relationship. So the show sort of is an AU of the books. I think there are audio books as I've heard some fans talking about the guy who played Spike in Buffy the Vampire Slayer reading at least one of the books. Upon my latest re-read the second book (Fool Moon) just annoyed me to no end and I might skip it in my next re-read, but it does set up important lore for the series.
I wear pj pants but nothing I'd wear out in public. If the webcam could see my pants then I would wear proper pants.
I don't think I've read any of those books before.
i am ready the 2nd Harry Potter book but not in dutch but in english.
Party today! It's my dad's 70th birthday today!
- nope, neither of us has seen the animated prequel. he has played all the gameds though and says you should give it a go if you're a gamer. it sticks close to canon. i won't let the dresden files tv show color my experience with the books. i almost always like the books better than the shows/movies. my hat goes off to you for being able to do any kind of public speaking whether it's in your pj bottoms or not. lol you should try out those authors. epic fantasy not like tolkien though, more like dune or game of thrones. aimed at adults with mature themes.
- my son and i just finished that book. since you said "in english" i take it you're not an native english speaker? i'm impressed. i wish i could get my son to study a second language but he refuses saying his time is better spent learning how to code as "everyone else has learned to speak english". no, he doesn't get it and pushes back when i try to slip spanish or french into his lessons. yes, he's homeschooled and has the confidence of the young. lol happy birthday to your dad! 70 is a milestone to be proud of. :D
I don't have good control over my hands so basically every game but Pokemon isn't something I can do. I do tend to watch Walkthroughs of games I'm interested in but can't play. I love the Dead Space series (though the third main game...interesting lore but the overall story is arg) and really wish there was a fourth game and not a remake coming out >.<
Thanks :)
There are so many books on my to read list that I will try and keep those authors in mind, I just don't know if I'll be able to get to them anytime soon.
70 is quite the milestone :)
i am dutch, from the Netherlands. So no english is not my main. I can manage good in english, sometimes i have to look up words how to write or what they mean. And thank you! Had a nice day with my dad.
thanks, it is as we did not where sure if he woud make it after his massive stroke 4 years ago.
- i'm sorry. it sucks when things don't work the way they should or just plain don't work at all. my son has played the dead space games and loved them. i'm surprised there is a remake coming out as he's said nothing and he is usually bubbling over with gaming release news. i hear you regarding the impossible length of your reading list. personally, i can't see the end of my list as it's so dang long. lol the sad fact is i've no hope of ever seeing the end as i'm always adding to it.
- you do very well with english. if you hadn't said something i would never have guessed.
I haven't been keeping up with Dead Space Remake news like I would with a fourth game in the series. So either he doesn't know or doesn't care.
Personally I'm more excited about The Callisto Protocol which is being called a spiritual successor to Dead Space as the creator of Dead Space is at the helms of the new game.
Besides big name authors, I also like indie authors. Especially indie authors that write cheesy romances XD
