Yea, agree 100%. I've collected these names for over 15 years on Subeta, and just like you, if one was taken, I would check back continuously to see if it was available. Not available? Find something else and keep checking anyway. There are creative ways to get cool names while still keeping them unique. Oh well, I guess times are changing, but in my opinion, this is not a good change.

Surprised to see that this change finally happened!

I was on the fence about this for a long time, but I'm not really active on Subeta anymore. I don't think this is the thing that will get me playing the site again, but it's good to know that I can rename my characters to match their character names. (I love Thief, but my god it's annoyed me for so long that he couldn't be named Val!)

I don't see how that will ever be an issue? With items, it's because items share an item ID across the site. However, each pet has a unique petID, and that is how pets are tied to things site-wise (like battling and the like). So I think it would only end up being an issue if there was a major glitch where a PetID was duplicated, and I don't even know if that's possible.

On an unrelated note, - will the pet friends be updated so we can put in a petID instead of a name? That way we can ensure it links to the right pet! (No rush of course! Just curious)

I kind of thought my CWs looked funny, but oh well. I don't care anymore. Nothing surprises me.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who says this won't make them more active. I've been steadily loosing interest. You can give free GAs and free CSC, but that won't make me regain my interest.

As a long time user of 15+ years I just have to say: I absolutely LOVE this change! It makes me especially happy that I can finally have the proper spelling for my tribute pets. ❤️

What happens if you adopt a pet from the adoption center who has the same name as one of the pets you already have?

Are you talking about the big issue from four months ago with the site backups and all that? If you’re still missing items they’ve expressed that there’s no time limit on reporting items missing, and that you can report items that you’re only partially sure are missing. I do believe, however, that they’ve moved to having users submit tickets for missing items now? Don’t remember where I saw that one so perhaps double-check. Also I believe the bonus CSC link is indefinite, in case you never collected your 1000CSC they gave out to everyone to try and make up for it. Subeta has been dying a slow death for years.

Pet sites with the Neopets skeleton (limited slots & unique names) just aren't as popular anymore. People have grown up, moved on, and found other things to do with their time. This model is extremely limiting and those who remain avid pet site fans don't necessarily like that anymore. It pushes them away. And there is no new generation of pet site obsessed kids like we were to replace the people who leave the community as a whole. Its sad to admit, but pet sites can't compete with the kinds of entertainment kids can easily find now. The world is not the same. Technology is not the same.

There are still pet sites, even brand new ones, raking in players and doing really well. There is still a market for pet sites! We've seen this. But if Subeta wants to survive, it needs changes. Really big ones. It needs to be brought into the modern era of pet sites so it can compete with the sites that are popular now, not the sites that were popular a decade ago.

I have been on Subeta for over 11 years. I played Neopets from like, 3rd grade until 2018. I have played every single one of the Neopets-skeleton pet sites I could find. For years, I was obsessed. But Subeta held my interest the least because it has evolved the least. I've been out of the loop for the past two years, but before that I was on top of all things pet sites. The only truly unique feature Subeta has, beyond the art style, is the way our Treasure Chests function (TCs are not a unique idea by themselves). Everything else is available somewhere else in some form, even CWs. For me, TCs were enough to deal with the outdated site, the lag, the errors, the old Neopets-skeleton model. But not everyone cares about that. Not everyone is willing to deal with that. Subeta needed to modernize or it would end up dead.

The amount of work that Bug and Keith have been putting into the site lately is genuinely awesome. It's given me so much hope. I haven't been this excited about something that has happened on Subeta in probably a decade and I'm not the only one with similar feelings. This change has overwhelmingly positive support, based on all the news comments, forum posts, and offsite posts I've seen so far. People are excited to play Subeta! They're here! They're active! They're posting, they're questing, they're battling, they're making HAs, they're coding pet profiles! They're spending money! This is what the site NEEDS to stay afloat - excited users who are HERE!

If all you're doing is logging on the keep your names hoarded, I'm sorry but you're not doing anything to help the site. You are not an active member. If we lose a bunch of inactive people, that does suck and there's no denying that. But the fact of the matter is: its not going to change anything to lose people who don't even play. I'd rather see staff cater to the active users and the new users who will actually keep the site alive. If staff cater to the inactive users, the site will die. I don't want to see that happen.

Eh. I've never been into the pet profile side of things (as far as I'm concerned, my pets are finished except for training). I've got two pet names I'm not particularly happy with so I'm looking forward to changing them for free next time I have a gold account, so that's good.

Man, I've wanted this for so long and am almost in disbelief that it's finally happened. Like others have said, probably the biggest relief is to no longer feel guilt or pressure over 'not doing enough' with my names (I'm excited to see what others do with pets of the same name!) Also to no longer have to hold onto names that do not spark joy when nothing better is available. And to never deal with clearing hell again... that alone is priceless.

I truly hope this livens things up around here as intended. I was at the point of doing nothing but dailies, and now I feel like doing something creative again c:

User for 13 years here. Suddenly I forgot all the names and cool words I thought about having here because the options where simply infinite... I had been saving 4 loyalty boxes for years (just got another one) and I used them all immediately to get more pets. This is the best change to ever happen on this site as of today.

People are making pets with non unique names and throwing them in the adoption center. I've looked up a few in the AC and their legacy pet is in the original account, but the newly named pet with the same name is in the adoption center. Is there a purpose to this, making a pet and just throwing it in the pound??

What caused names with periods to derp? What if a legacy pet has a disallowed name? Thus far, the answer seems to be "yeah we'll change it for free, but they'll lose their legacy status."

Okay, so is a user effectively punished for having a "disallowed name" by having to change it, and then kinda punished again for changing it by losing their Legacy status?

I'm not trying to cause tension or trouble, I'd just like clarification, since my understanding seems to be either off kilter, or like a change has been pushed through, which will result in some users losing out because of something that wasn't a problem before, and now it suddenly is.

I can't believe you announced this so late I justnow saw it and I'm too tired to play Subeta right now but ahhHhhhhh! I'm SO excited, i already have plans. Thank you for making sure a huge change, I'm so psyched to finally be able to user certain names!!

@ TaterSalad Hahaha welcome to an active pet site, that's how any site is when users are actually online. Who knows why people do it! So weird!

I'm seeing comments from people I have blocked/who have blocked me on the news post, just a heads up!

I have a feeling some of that was just people testing out the new system.
