Nah cuz what with the new wardrobe I manage to get a new pair of sole train shoes and the perfect thing to go with it to complete this amazing HA is an item in the CS? There are people out there who are like that. So every wearable could potentially go to a sale.
Like I said, Im also a pet person on some level and would like to see more pet stuff. But if wearables aren't the major focus the site could lose a lot of people. Or we'll have a thread like this but demanding more wearables again.
Cant please everyone.

The only reason I stayed on this site for a decade was my wardrobe and I still support more focus on the pets. The site is not going to lose me, I literally have several thousand wearables still on my wishlist. Non-cash shop wearables do not bring in more money. People who don't buy CSC are going to save up CSC by other means, as I have for years since I stopped buying CSC. It's not going to put more into the economy because they want that perfect cash shop item, they'll find a way. New features focusing on pets COULD put more in, because they create a new market.
Back when they weren't posting enough wearables we suggested that they add them more often and people said exactly what you said about pets just now. "It's a petsite!" Well, yes, it is. It's the same argument and the same logical fallacy. We're not going to ditch en masse because the art we ignored due to its age improves. Also: once a business starts to focus on retention above improvement, they're failing. You see it in restaurants, you see it in retail, you see it in fashion, and you see it in petsites. Petsites don't have Gordon Ramsay to come kick them in the tail though, they have to listen to their users.
It makes absolutely no sense to say that wearables bring the site money but pets don't. The majority of wearables are not from the cash shop.
There are CSC pet slots. Custom overlays. There is a cash shop exclusive pet. There are potions you can only get from the cash shop. Like yeah you can get them in user shops also but you can do that with wearables too. The CSC pet stuff tends to be more expensive than wearables (a pair of shoes is like 100CSC while a pet slot is still two-goddamn-thousand).
Adding more pet-related GA perks would help. I'm glad slots were separated from that though. I do love leashing, it's my favorite GA perk behind the quests and autopricer. Buuuut I wouldn't want all new pet features to be GA-linked.
TLDR it's not entitled to want focus to shine more on the reason many longtime users joined this site in the first place. Pets have just as much opportunity to make the site money as a bunch of shirt recolors.
I've certainly spent money on pets before - I had a name change for a pet and I bought a Miracle Potion II for another because I couldn't be bothered to try and bother to zap a specific pet again. I use more CSC on clothing and CWs, but do have some interest in the pet side of things too.
If you ignore either market, that is when you'll have problems. The point of the thread is not to advocate for artists to work on pets exclusively, but to find a better balance between pets and wearables and get the most money you can from both sides. You shouldn't ignore the fact that pet slots are $20 USD a pop.
just gunna slide back in bc i see the wardrobe vs pets for more money stuff
i have 321 ( or had as i'm selling them rn ) loyalty points. thats over 600$ i think over the time rewards cards existed and only maybe the last 80$ was for custom wears. the rest ?? potions. pet slots. tc items. custom overlays. art for my pets.
I've heard the debate in the past (both on the user side & the staff side) saying that pets just don't bring in a high revenue. And that is probably, depending on what the comparison is, pretty true. Entirely true if you consider CWs but that's not really a fair comparison as they're all user created for 1-unlimited number of users to enjoyment where as pets have custom overlays that are really for one person to enjoy (and other's to admire).
If that is really the case then, pets should be shown more options that would create revenue. Yes we have a ton more pet slots these days but those are one and done (and really they can only be increased by so many otherwise in 10 years there'd basically be 100 users with 500 great names and everyone else with neoesque names) and other than that a few potions and the neela. Yeah battle challengers, but how many ride or die pet people also battle?
I know this board is absolutely not about creating more new species & more new colors when so many are already lacking, but in the years that come why not more cash shop colors? Why not more cash shop species? Why not amazing cash shop experiments that are so hard to create they can't just be zapped for?
Why not an exclusive map that costs csc to explore (think private islands, or safari parks, or hell even zoos charge admission) (You know Saggis rich ass as a private island somewhere) with creative items and challengers and minions and lore and maybe even an exotic species long thought to be exinct. With wild forests and jungles and haunted abandoned housesband mines and so on so on.
Idk if pets don't bring in money, then explore a means of getting them to make money?
Most of the csc I buy is spent on cws, mainly because there just isn't that much to spend it on, pet wise. I've bought a few potions and done a few name changes, but that's really it. Custom overlays aren't my thing and I'm still working my way through the mc pet slots, but if there were more csc pet options I'd probably spend more. I really like some of Andrea's ideas, especially the exploring one. That's something I could see myself spending csc for on a regular basis.
I'm a battler, so my stance has no value (quite literally) in this particular debate, but I'll take pets over dress up any day. shrugs
But we need a balance, so that both features of the sites (wearables and pets) are balanced out enough in releases. And there is no denying pets have been getting the shaft again. I could sit here and waste an hour compiling the total amount of pets we used to get in a year versus what we get now, but I ain't cause anyone that's been here long enough knows we've been gettin' less and less focus on improving pets (new species barely count, since it just adds to the amount of pet combos that need to be done).
And for the record, the dressing up bs was why I left Neo in the first place and came here, because the pets made me fall in love with Subeta. A good chunk of us came from Neo if I had to wager, and I would bet it was for a similar enough of a reason: for the pets.
I like some of those ideas! I'd be fine with having a couple more species or potion CSC-exclusives in there. Or, maybe you have to buy a special item out of there to get access to a restricted place to adopt a pet species along with a few other perks (visiting the area may grant your active a small stat boost, you might find a unique item). Make it expire after one use, or even just an hour. That would get me invested.

I agree, and I'd love to see more NPCs interacting with their pets, and NPCs who are pets. (I also badly want some new colors and mammals released. I'm running out of unique colors for my pets, and I love mammal pets.)
I strongly agree with nearly everything written in this thread. I joined this site for pets, and throughout however many hiatuses, my pets are what brings me back. I'm a HUGE wardrobe fanatic, with a giant wishlist, who has bought custom wears and GAs just because I want extra slots--but the dress up feature is NOT what keeps me here. I come back because I want to work on my pets. Spotlight is a huge perk. I love filling out TCs. The HA system is an awesome extra to the site, but we're to the point where I feel like this is a fashion doll website and not a pet site at all.
I have played or currently play DOZENS of sites with dress up features. I would stand to argue that as far as sites go where that's not the priority, subeta is one of the best. I get that it's a huge market for the site. But I have spent way more cash money on CSC for TC slots and pet slots than I have for any wearables combined, honestly, and for good reason; there are SO, SO many wardobe items! For most items, if it's a cash shop item in any way (or a CW), I can find a dupe/something I like about as much for cheaper. When it comes to pet perks that cost CSC... there's not much else to do!
There is so much Subeta has to offer with it's unique pet species and the magnificent art styles. The pets feel so second in command currently though, and I really feel it should be the other way around. I love food items. I love the wardrobe. I really want to see pets treated as important. I want revamps, I want all species to have their colors filled out. All of the item suggestions and leash perks are great, too! I just want better for the pet species... because I cannot deny, even as a HA lover, that it feels like the site cares way more about fashion than the pets this site was born for.
I would really like to see the time-frame/holiday schedule for certain color releases ditched. If a pet is done, please release it. "Oh Fireside has passed... guess we're done with Reborn pets for the year" just Feels Bad. I wouldn't mind a smaller handful of pets released during a holiday if I knew it wasn't the only chance that year of seeing more.
I also understand that there are many in development, but we don't see that (and I'm not saying we should). We only see what's released.
I'm 1000000000% for old things being fixed up, I'm happy that they're giving us a mountain of new things, but so many old colors/pets look outdated and ugly in comparison to the newer art.
I mean, there've been lots of pet revamps + three new pet species were added recently (Yaherra, Blob and Scootle) so there's been more focus on pets recently...
I DO wish that we could do more things with our pets, though. Battling is the most interactive part of pets on Subeta but it would be cool if there were more activities. Not necessarily things that give prizes (but they're always welcome ;)) but just... idk, fun things. I'm looking forward to the Gardens being revamped and I think it would be kind of fun if our pets were the ones that took care of the gardens and you could have however many plots there will be and have a pet watch over it. If you refreshed the page there could be text like, "Petname is hard at work weeding the garden" or "Petname is busy watering the garden." Just something relatively simple but cute.
Yeah there are some pretttttty glaring holes in art consistency, like pets that have visibly needed revamps since before I joined 9 years ago.
save her
Just adding pets and us having to wait months or years for them to get colors isn't enough to say that "Subeta is paying attention to pets!" in my eyes.
It's going good so far this month, but I really hope this thread won't have to be repeated in 3,6, 12 months. Seriously, a lot of pet people have been here for AGES. (I know I have)
Maybe not the 100% perfect topic for this but I also start to wonder why we haven't had a Summer Quest-A-Thon yet. In past years it was always around my Subeta anniversay which is nearly a month ago. XD
Yeah, I know people keep saying it's boring and repetitive and what not but it's a pet slot you can win even if your online time is limited by a stressful job/school/university/real life, if you cannot spend real cash on the internet and if you cannot make millions of sP everyday which is so nice imo...and I know most of us need and want it. (I know I need and want it. Badly.)
I'd take part in a quest-a-thon if they brought something original as a prize.
Yes, pet slots are nice, but it would be fun to have a boon that's actually related to quests, this time around?
I joined subeta when I was ten years old, just shy of eleven, before subeta was even "PG-13" - nearly 13 years ago.
My pets have always been my main focus on the site. My friends, too, sure, but I eventually got skype and talk to most of them on there anyways, so subeta isn't really essential for that anymore. I still remember when the HA system was introduced and to be honest, my only interest in it was to make avatars... for my pets. Since CWs were introduced, I have only ever owned 2, both of which were gifted to me.
As time as went on subeta had less and less and less focus for pets. Honestly it's damped my enthusiasm for the site quite a bit. The only exciting thing is when there is a Quest-a-thon or something, so I can get another pet slot to either: a) help a friend with a pet name they want or b) be able to have an extra pet slot in case I get another idea/find a pet name I want. I have 56 pet slots and I like to do little blurbs on their profiles and mostly focus on building up their treasure chests but honestly? There is a lot of other games I find a lot more appealing and it went from being my nearly-fulltime engagement when I was a little kid to a very passive side game. True, university/life/blah blah blah take up a lot of that time, but most of my free time is spent writing (for my characters), drawing, photography, or playing games (single player RPGs to online games like Elder Scrolls: Online, League of Legends, Fortnite, and so on).
I used to draw my pets, roleplay, etc. all the time and I just don't really see a point in investing that much of my OCs on subeta anymore since pets literately don't... do anything. Do I still do those things? Yes. Do I do them on subeta anymore? No. The only really "big" update that ever happened to pets was the Spotlight, which I then - and still do - give pretty much 0 cares about.
I still care about subeta but since pets have been reduced to basically nothing than a pretty picture, it's hard to find the enthusiasm that I once had for them. :( I like collecting things irl though, so if subeta happened to release more real-life plushies again I'd be all over that. I was a like, devastated 12 year old when I couldn't afford the kumos plushie back then since I was... well, 12 and had no money lmao but now I am 23 with moderately more money, cash in now subeta
Pet centric users are more than willing to spend significant chunks of cash on pet related items, but the things they pay for tend to be more for one time and done items. Wearables in the cash shop, both CW and staff drawn items in the cash shop, are always going to be the site's most steady stream of income generated for the site however, simply because they're released more frequently, and easier to release on a mass basis on a consistent time table.
I started the site when there was no human avatar system in place and it was strictly a pet site. And while, I do like buying wearables for my avatar on site I'd wager that the most significant amount I spend treasure wise is mostly to stock pet treasure chests than for wearables personally. So, yeah, I'd like to see more consideration given to having a consistent schedule of pets colors released just because there's quite a few older pets on sites that haven't had new colors released for them in years or where a revamp of an outdated pet is drawn.
I've said it before, I'll say it again: if that's the issue with these things, make it a choose-your-own-reward kind of thing.
I know several users who wouldn't really bother with the quest-a-thon if the prize wasn't a petslot and I would be on the fence with participating too. Add more prizes and let folks choose their own rewards if the petslot got stale for some users. Just because some of us have 90+ pets and are getting bored with the same reward doesn't mean that the rest of the userbase should lose out on a fantastic prize.
