i won't lie, i was a little bummed to realize the scootle was a new species bc it's just one more pet to hold up the line for special colors. at the very least, i'd like to see the color fills like aqua and cherry "complete."

Honestly the pet leashes is such a cute idea but it really just, is a GA perk for people to put in the forms because reasons. If I didn't play via mobile 99% of the time I wouldn't have a GA or a leash because it really doesn't do anything a link in a sig can't accomplish?

A handful of random sleepy ideas for leashes:

• When in a main food shop with a leashed pet & you buy something the NPC "notices" your pet and offers them a bowl of water (like irl pet friendly restaurants). Maybe sometimes you get to keep the bowl (free pet related item pls, no water bowls onsite outside of one dated ruffie bowl).
• Same concept with the coffee shop only you get a Petachinno (starbucks dog frappe). Could have different sizes/shapes/content based on the various pets (not all pets can or would eat whipped cream), perhaps limited to one a day.
• Toy shop, same concept.
• Wizard thinks your pet & Luna are now BFFs and gives you an extra quest or some tokens (random while doing quests).
• Random event, pet so happy to hang out with you its now starving!

I dunno, I'm not sure there's a ton of random ways to include a pet who supposed to be with you/on a leash around the site. I'd love love to see something more immersive but even cute little quirky things would be better than a forum link.

Unpopular opinion here, but I agree with about consistency of character being important when addressing how the free for all worked. The fact that somebody can say that they don't care about that as long as they're being released is utterly baffling to me. With that being said, I myself would love nothing more than to see updated art and old species in colors that we all wish were released long ago, but I do try to remind myself to be patient since it is a free website. I like the idea somebody mentioned of having a place to submit suggestions on what they could look like for artists lacking inspiration! I hope this board sparks some updates.

I'd also like to express my disappointment in the lack of new and revamped pets this past year. I know there's only a handful of pet artists right now and that they have a LOT on their plates (so this isn't a complaint directed at them at all; artists, if you're reading this, you are awesome and I love you <3), but I do wish we could have a month of pet-focused releases to make up for the constant influx of wearables, wearables, and more wearables.

Maybe I'm looking back on previous years through rose-tinted glasses, but from the beginning of 2018 to now has felt so underwhelming in terms of pet content that it feels like it's on the back burner? Or maybe I'm just being one of those whiny pet people, haha. But I looked through the archive, and since January 1st of this year, we've had...

...7 recolors (like new aqua/vibrant pets) ...16 new redraws (like a new chibi experiment or species/color combo, OR a revamp of a special color) ...1 new experiment (0003)

...and then the release of the Blob and Scootle. I also believe the basic Cadogre was revamped. Out of that, I noticed that the Scootle still doesn't have any special colors, only one Angelic pet was released (Angelic Bhakoru), and only 3 Steamwork pets were released (Steamwork Ontra, Steamwork Bumbus, and a revamp of the Steamwork Ruffie). I know that some colors are close to having a variant for every species, but this still feels rather... light? Is Subeta conscious of the fact that they're running out of species to do certain colors for, and they want to space it out for the future? If that's the case, shouldn't we be thinking of new redraw colors so that the future isn't so stagnant?

Also, there's a lot of species that just... need a lot of help, overall. I was looking at a list of Chelon colors last night, and it's sad how outdated most Chelon art is. Bovyne, Aeanoid, Ghostly, Hikei, Illumis, Kanis, Keeto, Kora... aw heck, I don't feel like looking even more, but there's a LOT of species that I, at least, would probably love more if proper revamps were done!

Also also, also, also... also. I like some of 's ideas about pet integration into browsing the site. And someone else mentioned generic pet items, to which I say, YES. We need a lot more items like catnip, pet beds, food dishes, litter boxes, puppy pads, leashes and collars... also, for our more "exotic" Subeta species, aquarium supplies (heaters, filters, tanks, water conditioner?), reptile supplies (ceramic heat emitters, UVB bulbs), so on and so forth... well, maybe that's getting a bit off topic. But this idea popped into my head and I got excited and my fingers started typing, whoops.

ANYWAY. tl;dr, this thread is great and I agree with what a lot of people are saying.

I didn't say I didn't care about consistency. I said I didn't care about it being one artist who completes it, because they should all be capable of equal consistency to subeta style and the defined presets of the species.

I see where you're coming from, but consistency in character was the main point she referred to when explaining why a free for all didn't work in the past. I don't think they should pick back up a method that sounds like it was proven to be ineffective on the site already for the sake of pumping out pets. I definitely don't want to see them coming out looking lackluster.

oh i also thought, if we do have a pet-centred month (and if this is doable of curse!) it might be neat to have polls so people can pick what species/colour they want to see next! :' D likely out of a couple choices rather than every single pet onsite, since that might be a tad overwhelming i think it would be a good idea so artists can get an idea of what pets people are looking forward to the most~

Also I'm down for more pet supplies. I could always use more horse and farm supplies for Haluk's and Yakul's TCs. Barn diorama anyone?

No polls, please. Polls will only end with super-popular pets getting most of the votes, while pets who aren't as popular, and yet yearning for a revamp (Aeanoids still have their original look - they looked that way in 2006!)

i have strongish feelings on this subject...but i'll keep it short.

i totally support the idea of more focus on pets because:

• it's in subeta's interest to start focusing on pets again. this is a pet site, and wardrobe items may generate the most revenue but what happens when you start to lose the users who are here mainly for the pets? subeta's avatars are cute, sure, but could subeta survive as an avatar-focused site? ( compare subeta to other, more developed, better maintained, avatar/dress up sites, and you can probably guess the answer )

• a set period every year dedicated to revamps, redraws, and pet refreshes will get much much better feedback, and much more support than say....a holiday revolving around a special, alternative diet/lifestyle so controversial it could almost be a religion...which plays into: when your clients feel they're getting what they want, they will definitely be happier to spend money on what you're offering, and that's a win win for both parties. and i do believe most users are drawn to subeta because of the pets vs the latter.

• i can't speak for how more pets should come about, but i do know the current pet production system seems to be broken. if it wasn't we wouldn't be discussing this problem. a few people mentioned that a single artist is assigned to a species to keep the pet's character consistent. this should not be an issue among professional artists as long as the species has a set character description. ( how important is a species' character anyway? really? compare the storm telenine and the reborn telenine to eachother. ) that and also the fact that there's currently a huge character inconsistency among species ( and colors ) anyway, caused by the quality of the art. a few examples being:

i would think having more than one artist in charge of a species, or possibly a team...or pair of artists supporting eachother, would increase the quality of the pets while also increasing output. -this would also, hopefully, fix the anatomy and quality issues i've been seeing in some of the newer pet art.

• we have....a lot of beautiful wearables and foods already. so many that i doubt not releasing as many, to use this time to work on pets, would even be noticed. im curious if the amount of effort put into producing wears and foods is equal to or greater than the effort spent on pets?

anyway... ive just been generally disappointed with the way pets have been handled over the last few years, and really would be overjoyed if somehow staff could get on a reasonable system that allowed them, and us, a way to focus a little more on pets.

I agree with this too, when I joined the site like 10 years ago (back in MY day -shakes cane-) more of the focus was on the pets and now I feel the site is kinda going the way of like, Gaia online? Like with wearables and the avatars and the forums getting the spotlight most of the time. I love the site don't get me wrong but I feel like over the years the site has taken more of a HA focused route. :(

I'd be down for more pet related stuff, be it more tc items (tinned pet foods, beds, toys, litter items, cages, pet grooming tools, flea and worming prevention), activities with pets and especially more colours/recolours. I'm thankful that my favourite species here (feli) has most, if not all, colours done there are certainly some pets that are lacking.

For example, I love the Darkonite even though I've yet to own one because of how inconsistent it is in its own colours. Some have whiskers, some don't (chibi, glade) the number of head spikes jumps between three prominent and two prominent, the spectrum and blacklight have the broken headpiece on the opposite side.

This probably happens in other pets too, this is just the one that comes to mind. Along with all the really outdated pet colours out there (what even is that chibi sheeta?)

New pets are fun and exciting, but I'd honestly see the old, current pets get more love before having new species thrown out there. I'd be down for pet colours being released outside of their set times too, most colours I can see working for all year, like storm, spectrum, darkmatter.

I love my wearables just as much as my pets, but there's only so many newly released things I can use at one time. I'd be more than happy to see less wearables in favour of more pet stuff.

I'm so glad that this post has been made as I have been desperately wanting to talk about the lack of pet content at the moment.

I purely joined Subeta because of it being a pet site and one of the best at being a pet site with function and customisability (I would't be here if subeta was more like an adoption site) yet I do see pets being cast aside in attention as of late. I don't mind the wearables as I felt they were additional features but they're a lot more in the spotlight in comparison.

It was great to see some new pets come out in the past 2 years (zasaba, zentu, qrykee, yaherra, blob and scootle) and I always feel that they are the most exciting feature for me and looking forward to seeing more new pet species. However, there are so many pets and colours that really need some focus. I was initially going to post a topic on where Darkmatter is as I feel that has been the most neglected special posed colours (the last one being the Neela in Oct 2014) as newer revamped pets could do with a Darkmatter touch up. It would be nice to focus on Darkmatter as an expanse on Subetan lore as well as a chance to release revamps and new pets.

Seeing some of the things suggested here, I like 's ideas on more pet focused content such as more functions with the leash and a pet shop with more pet focused things; Subeta is in dire need of pet shop items! Things like reptile terrariums would be great amongst other things.

In short, Subeta is in need to focus more on the pets and I think bringing out more features and revamps would be a great way to start.

BIG MOOD I made this thread FOUR years ago and i think all we've gotten in that time is a few more treat items, and some animal wearables I really like the idea of small buffs to your account after random events to your leashed pets, like extra quests, cooldowns (random event in carnival for example 'your pet is so charming game npc xyz lets you play another round, don't tell anybody though'), random stat increase events with flavourtext (like idk, esther loving your leashed glade pet and giving them a boost), the free pet items you mentioned. I also really want dog pets to be able to randomly find free toys aka sticks.... Also random events where your leashed pet asks to go on a walk pls :') The leashed pet walks also reminds me of pet adventures on Aywas, or exploring on Lioden, if anybody's familiar with that. Basically you have a set amount of energy/clicks to use (that gets refilled gradually on its own or via cash store item), you click to randomize an encounter, and you can find items, meet opponents (level-scaled for different areas) for battle, catch/tame new pets or minions (quite similar to the scootle adoption process!), and you can take quests to kill x amount of mobs in explore. It's honestly much more pleasant and immersive to grind away at than crypts or polar fields even though both are technically RNG based. Might also give people incentive to train their pets ?

I'd never really leave, but my note 8 makes subeta (and art) so much easier to enjoy.

Personally I really really appreciate the expansion of the real world items in regards to human (or even anthroesque) characters. Please never stop that because there's still so much we need!

That said, a "Pet Shop" would be fabulous for so many TC based reasons (human characters with pets or who work with animals, quad characters) but also would really add another layer to species lore building regarding how they should be fed or cared for in a domestic environment (I mean we assume all dragons are carnivores but are some willing to eat humanly killed meat, or do they all require living tributes). It'd also be a bonus for adding nuggets of relevant information for our irl pets (like even if your wyllop is small, it needs a large cage! Etc etc). Really an endless supply of item options, and I could go on forever probably.

It could be great for experiments too since they may or may not ever get subetapedia articles (Euclid is shady and secretive). It'd be a great place to add more information about their care.

PS: It'd be awesome to see items added for irl species we may not have represented on subeta (arachnids come to mind, or goats, or salt water fish). That'd probably be more for human OCs but also fun and valid.

Do you know what I just realized? That there are ZERO Velosotor beanbags on site. What the hell. One of the oldest pet species, ignored. Less food and clothing and more things related to pets, please!

Y'know what would be cool for a summer event related to pets? Bringing back the Subeta Tour/Cruise Boat! That way, visiting all the places on the map and finding either a new species (if we even need one) or new colors of existing pets (Such as, finding a new Swampie color, using the tour as an excuse to update the line art on some of the more neglected pets, etc. etc.) That way we could discover colors as we visit places (Glade for Veta, DM/Reborn for Darkside, Graveyard/NM for Shadow Glen, etc) and we can meet up with old NPCs and stuff like that. Maybe even have another encounter with Merana for Hydrus pets? (And Battling)

I feel weird having to say that artists aren't interchangeable even in professional environments.
