- I can hint at it for sure! HINT HINT.
All this talk of pets is kind of making me want to work on my own again... I hope we get more pet stuff over the next few months. :) Not to mention I want to see what everyone else does with their pets. :D
Yay! Been anxious for a new one for awhile now!

Yesss this ive been waiting for more pets/pet colors/revamps...
yeah I really dont care about items for pets since there’s already so many and we have CW’s now. We really don’t need more items right now. I’d rather there be more focus on the actual pets. Like revamps?? More colors??? I dont know like focusing on the pets to have more options with the items we already have.
I’ve got to give it to here, , the initial post wasn’t about more pet items either. I genuinely love the art for all the new items and wearables, but ... again, we look at old pet art and it’s no wonder many people resort to overlays, which is a shame considering how talented the artists are! I’m also a bit confused, you make it sound a bit as if users making their pets into characters is a bad thing? It’s almost 12:30am so I might be too tired, so forgive me if I’m wrong.
I also think having more rng pet events would be pretty snazzy, but that’s a definite long haul plan.
I think more items for pets is a good idea, but I DON'T want it to be the next thing that's focused on. I want more pet colors. I want revamps. I want pets to feel like they're a huge part of this site again. Lots of people make their pets into human characters, that's great, but lots of people don't. Even more do both I'm sure, like me. Even if your character is 100% a human and they don't even have a "quad" form for fun, you're gonna look for a pet that fits your character best. And that can be hard when you're looking at a color like galactic, which came out shortly after I joined, with many pets that still have art that's over a decade old and it shows. It's fine if it's old art and it looks okay. Like, I think the spectrum sheeta looks fine. Maybe not as super detailed as newer pets, but also not horrendous or impossible to look at.
I just... I don't like the "We're working on it we promise :)" cause it just seems so passive-aggressive. This is never against the artists, I understand how hard it is even though I'm NOT an artist. But to be like "oh we have like 15 special pose pets in the works" when there's like..... 60... that need to be done... feels very disheartening. I don't really consider colorfill releases to be a "NEW PET RELEASE". It's a colorfill. I know those take effort too but it's not really the same. I would rather eliminate an ugly color like vibrant entirely just to have like two more special pose pets released. Idk.
tldr I'm just so frustrated lately and the only way I feel I can express myself at this point is "how many goddamn different kinds of frilly shirts in 90 colors do we have to sit through before one of my pets with art from 2007 gets updated". It's tiring, it's boring. I don't want to be bored here. I'll never leave. I think I took one hiatus in my life, 10 years ago.
I just want as many options and new content as Wardrobe People(tm) get. I want to feel as loved as the people who come here and say "i only have a pet because it's required for some stuff lol". I want to feel like the game is still for me, too.
I whole heartedly agree that something should be done. As has been said before, this is a Pet Site first, but it doesn't necessarily seem like it. I've been waiting for a revamp to the
Galactic Kanins for years.

"Born: May 19th, 2015" and i know I made her Galactic that same day if not the very next month, can't quite remember if Itallo was available all year at the time or not. So, yeah it's been legit 3 years. While I know that's not as long as some of the pets, it's still a long time. She looks so plastic-y.
I'm not hating on the artists by any means though! They do really fantastic work, but I would like to see some more focus on the pets too.

If it's not too taxing on the artists, how about having a few pet items released alongside the pet colour/revamp?
For example, if a Cherry Lain is released, some bird cages in various colours, some toys that a lain-like pet bird may enjoy.
A Storm Ruffie alongside some bone shaped chew toys, dog bowls.
It would be nice to tie it into the subetapedia articles since some mention specific things when talking about how to care for them.
I'd love more focus on more colours too, but I really wouldn't say no to more pet care items because making a tc based on an actual pet can be kinda hard sometimes, and it would be nice to know (at least to me, I can't speak for everyone) more about what the pets eat, play with, how they live etc.
Same, I could always use some reflective cat collars for Tux's TC (damn cat loses his collar so often that it's a running joke).
The problem is that most pet releases, well, the special colours like Graveyard anyways, are usually released during their appropriate holiday(s). While I get this, at the same time, it doesn't always work out for the artist. Couldn't tell you how many Firesides had gone by before we finally got a Reborn Legeica or Montre revamp. To me, that feeling of disappointment and having to wait another year to see if your favorite gets released or revamped is worse than having a random new Bloodred pet released during summer.
I remember when Morostide was so exciting, to see what new pets or revamps we would get that night. Lately, though, that number has dropped from like maybe 10-13 to 5. In fact, every holiday has seen lower numbers. We're lucky if we get even 5 now. Whereas items, well fuck, there's tons of new items, especially wearables.
Methinks that's where all the creative effort is instead being focused on, and then we run into the new problem of "well we can only do so many items related to x, y, and z" because they create way too many at once that year. Well no wonder you're running out of ideas, there's too much stuff! and it's not fun when there's tons of new items you may want (especially if you've been on hiatus ever), but requires so much of the currency needed (or ToT/pumpkin patch hates your guts like it does for me regarding books) that it makes the holiday a chore to complete.
tl;dr: I have my own pent up frustrations as of late. The need for LESS items has been a long time coming, especially wearables.

I just wanna say the idea of CWs replacing items would essentially be the same as custom overlays replacing new pets.
A very expensive option that requires both skill/paying an artist/paying to put it onsite isn't the same as official art coming from the staff at a far more affordable & easily accessible option.
If I'm being 100% honest, I've absolutely hated the "pet colors only coming out during certain times of the year" thing from the beginning. It does make sense. But in function it's a mess.
Many times artists have uploaded the full art for a pet with the comment "this guy has been sitting around for months waiting to be released!" That's... shitty. If a pet gets done, just release it. Long sleeved shirts aren't banned in the summer or anything. Idk.
It's kind of hard to not roll your eyes when a new species comes out and you know that they'll only get basics and then they'll just sit there for a while waiting for new colours like the rest of the pets are.
Sometimes, I kind of wonder what the point of making new species when other pets are clearly neglected (there's lots of examples here so I don't need to bring up more). It just seems weird to release the Scootle when the Blob only has one special colour (although it seems like every colour is special with that one so I'm not so sure how relevant that example is) and the Yaherra has four? I just don't understand it.
I dunno, it's just hard to get excited about new species when you know it's going to be a while before anything is really done with them.
Sing it. Colorfills are NOT a new release, or anything to be proud of, honesty. It's a colorfill - it should not take long, and frankly they should have been all done by now. If artists can crank out 12 colors of a shirt every week, then what is the holdup? Or is it that item artists are not pet artists? If so, then we need more pet artists/more inspired pet artists.
Harsh? Yes. But tomorrow will be my 13th year on Subeta, and I'm just disgusted at the slide into a human avatar site, rather than a pet site :(
Posting again, hi. I feel like one of the big issues here is that a lot of us feel like there's sort of a "Wearables vs pets" vibe to things, because it seems like wearables (and food I guess) make up a huge majority of site updates that get new art. It makes it feel like HAs are the main focus of the site now, with pets being less of a priority. It makes sense for new items to be released more frequently than pets, because the image size is much smaller and in general they probably require less work on average, but it seems like the ratio of new wearables and other items to new/updated pet species/color combos has become a lot more skewed in favor of the items. While it's understandable for pet releases to be more seasonal, I've also seen some of the "been waiting to release this guy!" comments from the artists and I wonder if the timing of pet releases contributes to how sparse they seem.
Also, I'm very optimistic about Subeta for the most part, I have a lot of faith in the staff in general and that's why I've spent so much money and invested so much time here, but it seems like every several months there's another big "pls make Subeta feel more like it is still a petsite" topic. Some of us pet people can be super demanding, but this being a relatively common complaint makes me think we aren't just imagining things, y'know?

Oh gosh, Tux is so cute!
I feel you though, I've been buying things for a future pet based on my rescue kitty and I've hit a dead end. Things are either nonexistent, part of a monthly collection and rather expensive or just a repeat of Meowy's treasure. It can get rather frustrating x.x
It's been like this for years IMO.
Personally, I don't like the trend of limiting colors to certain seasons or events. I feel like only releasing certain colors in a 2-4 week window out of the year really slows down and limits art production, especially when new pets are constantly being added. I get it thematically, but it sucks waiting an entire year to hopefully see a pet you like released in that color. I don't see why it can't be year round. I'd personally love to see more existing pets finished too, rather than adding even more species (as much as I love them!).
Would 100% love more pets please. ;n; As much as I love having pretty HAs, I'd love to see more special pet colors, even if I don't plan on getting that pet!
Sometimes, you just gotta give up that aesthetically pleasing release time in favor of getting things done.
That aside, I'm sorry because I hate to speak out rudely, but I feel the subject of "one artist per species" is not excusable by "which one person draws it best"... Different artists can put different life into various pets. One person might make a gorgeous glacier with the sleepy, groggy, cranky look... And an extremely lackluster reborn because they could not manage a fierce, empowering, lively personality. (This is not a specific stab at any of the artists, it's just an example of two colors with very prominent expressions/feelings that contradict each other.) Categorize who can do what best, whether it be a personality, a body style, or certain palettes. Let those groups take on whichever pets they can handle. Have them team up versus one person lay claim to a species. The free-for-all system is too chaotic, the one-person-one-pet system is too limiting, but there is always a compromise. It doesn't have to be solely one or the other.
I too really miss pet releases, I joined before HAs and have never been extremely into them. I like the wearable art, but dont get excited for new wearables because I'm just not interested enough in HAs to invest in them. I loved when pet releases were frequent and also more than 1-2 at a time?
I get HAs are a big and very popular part of the site, but I just want to see our pets getting more attention, that's what I was here for in the first place
Thanks! Ugh, I can't even begin to tell you how difficult it is that there are no saddles to throw in Yakul's TC. A lot of horse-related supplies are non-existent, so I have to make due with buying blankets that would be suitable or make sense for a rideable neela.
As an artist myself, I understand why a pet species is limited to one artist. Style consistency. For example, I can tell Hagane's art apart from Rah's, Rah's from Jill's or Jill's from Goth's any day.
vs
A trained eye can tell the difference in shading styles and preference for poses. Hagane's tends to have less bold and softer shading, and the poses may be less dynamic but instead fit the canvas without too much trouble or sacrificing the main features of a pet; Jill will try dynamic foreshortening (difficult to pull off in such a small canvas) and rich shading to detail each strand of fur or shiny metal in steamwork pets.
Both are fabulous in their own rights (both examples are some of my favorites of their work respectively), and that's what makes them so unique and recognizable by the community! We know who did what specifically. If Hagane did a few Tigreans, it would be noticeable compared to Jill's, if she didn't try to match the same style. It is difficult to mimic another artist's style.
