Please, if you have thoughts on making pets a bigger focus of the site, share them! I'd love more focus on them no matter what.

I love the recent new species that we have gotten, but just putting it out there that I have to agree I'd rather see more focus on finishing out colors and revamping the existing pets that we already have before putting more efforts on too many new ones. Especially those pet species and older colors which have been neglected for a while.

Wearables and new items are great, but sometimes it does feel like there could be a bit more balance between the pet side and the other stuff side of the site.

Food and wearables, wearables and food. I'M SO SICK OF THEM.

I think that a revamped/existing color of pet added every two weeks, or even one a month, should be a good goal.

And about those colorfills like Aqua and Vibrant? Should have been already done by now.

Also, those things we were promised around Emma and Esther's wedding, like the Tea Shop? Also should have been done by now. Instead of a shitty Vegan holiday.

I was on an unintentional hiatus for a couple of years and came back to so many wearables (and the introduction of CWs), that it was overwhelming and I just gave up on the wardrobe and sold nearly everything. I can’t imagine what it must be like for a new user. It seems pretty obvious, though, that wearables must be the the biggest money generator for the site, as the majority of items in the Cash Shop and monthly collections are wearables and CWs seem to be popular. So, I don’t begrudge Subeta the energy they put into wearables, since it’s generating revenue (and the new backgrounds are fantastic!), but I agree that I’d love to see pets given more prominence. I almost didn’t come back after pet profiles broke and the Photobucket disaster, but after having a little bit of time to breathe through it, I’m back and putting energy into my pets again. That (and keeping up on my collections) are what have kept me here for so many years!

I was glad that Neugarten was mostly new foods for our pets, instead of mostly wearables. I’d also love to see all of the pet colors given more attention. So many colors missing for so many years. I hope those are able to be prioritized. I don’t really have any opinion on the pet month suggestion that some folks have tossed around, as I’d be more interested in seeing consistent love given to catching up on the missing colors. I hope the balance is found between keeping the cash cow going and giving pets more prominence!

I'm just posting because I'm a big offender here, but this isn't an official statement, just some thoughts.

5 artists and over 60 species of pets with loads of colour combinations and revamps to do? Yikes.
Now, I could be the one forgetting somebody, but I believe we're almost all pet artists at this point. I think there's only a couple people who don't have at least 3 species, so while it's not a completely even spread, it is more than five people handling 60 pets at least.

The biggest problem with this is that assigning species to a specific artist does not work
I disagree! When I first started, pets were a free-for-all. Admittedly, it was a different time and it wasn't the organized setting we've got today (basically it was just: post this sketch you made on a whim, hey sure we could make that the color). I think that's actually how the Hydrus Harvester even exists, because Harvesters had been unassigned for years, and I think the person who drew it wasn't even a dedicated pet artist? Either way, that person didn't draw a Harvester before or after that. Then took it over and she really did that pet justice.

Plus I think the consistency in character is worth as much as the consistency in design. I might be able to technically draw a Zentu or a Zasaba, but I don't think I could capture their character half as well as the artists who designed and currently draw them do. I mean, I can absolutely see the concern here, but I think you're unfortunately gonna end up with neglect regardless. At the very least, the way we do it now provides focus. If it went back to a free-for-all, I see it becoming really chaotic and inefficient.

PET MONTH
I don't think a single month dedicated to pets would be good. It would be such a short time frame to cover way too much. We've had theme months in the past that didn't really have too many releases, and it would be a shame to have that happen. I like the idea of having a few months dedicated to pet types (like all the dragons, or all the water pets, OR MAYBE regions? So there would be other things to do for the players that aren't all about pets) That could be really fun, and I would be down for that.

I wholeheartedly support focusing on pets for a couple of months at the very least. Releases of new color combos feel really sporadic. I was a member on subeta before a HA system was ever a thing. The moment this was released, I knew the site was going to pay attention more to that feature than to the pets itself.

Some pets haven't been touched in an extremely long time. The Pherret doesn't even have a nuclear colorfill, and species that have been around for longer than I've been on the site are missing colors that are just as old. For reference, I've been on the site for nearly 11 years now. There isn't a spectrum Tigrean, for example. The last color Noktoas got was aqua. Not to mention, it's really disheartening when suggestion threads for certain pet/color combos come up and are immediately locked.

I would really like it if species were no longer assigned to one specific artist. With how things are now, there are pets that don't get a color for years because their designated artist draws wearables 95% of the time. Or, there are pets that don't have an artist at all. While I understand the want for consistency, overall everything should have a subeta style and thus shouldn't matter who drew it. In addition to this, I would like more color releases outside of certain time frames. This only makes waiting for certain pets and colors even more agonizing. I'd much rather get a pleasant surprise of a sweetheart pet whenever, opposed to waiting literal years for a sweetheart pet during February. I even remember that Storm was supposed to be a color that was released year round, due to it always being stormy somewhere, but somehow it ended up being a spring exclusive color.

My pets are the primary reason I'm on this site. I'm far from the only pet-centric user on this site, and I kind of wish the artist would pay more attention to the pet aspect of a pet site? Minions were removed from the DPs because they weren't making the site enough money, from what I remember. If pets were getting more focus from the staff, people would want to invest more in their pets as well including pricier minions, books, and so forth. I'm sure the only reason food is even in the DPs anymore is because they double as a wearable. The wearables are nice, but it just feels like pets are becoming more and more of an afterthought.

My post probably sounds more angry than I mean for it to. I absolutely love subeta. It's the only "traditional" pet site left that's not some sort of breeding+battling sim. (Let's not mention the Other site that's a dumpster fire now). I love to code my profiles, draw my characters, and so forth. However I can only do so much to entertain myself when my favorite thing about the site is on a constant backburner. While none of my pets have anything to do with subeta's lore, I love finding inspirational color combinations for new characters, or find something that fits an existing character. However, there have been several occasions where I've highly considered just moving all my stuff to Toyhouse because pets aren't as paid attention to.

Tl:RD; I'm tired of things feeling like a Pets vs Wardrobe thing and wish that artists' attention and resources would be spread out more evenly across both.

The best way to be happy with someone is to be happy alone. That way, company is a matter of choice and not a necessity.

I'm definitely not a pet person. For years I had only my basic 10 and any slots earned from quest-a-thons, etc, went empty.

I love the wardrobe. I love every new wearable release, and I was disappointed that neugarten didn't have any clothes (yeah, yeah I know they had t-shirts, those aren't clothes!).

That said, even I can see that we do need more focus on the pets. No idea how to accomplish/encourage that, but I definitely support it.

I'm less interested in colors and design but I'm more interested in the lore of the pets.. see, the pedia is giving some nice information and I would like to see it live, like the pet's babies (not the color) and their past, their evolutional ancestors.. (some pets are related).. and many other things.. The pets are part of nature and nature is a big neverending story, so tell me and show me this..

I would love to see the pets from all the sides, so we can discover areas in their bodies that we can't see.

I would love to see what's under the Harvester.

Things like that..

Subeta is still a mystery, especially the pets, time to open the box and reveal some stuff..

I know this will be like a broken record but...

I feel there needs to be a certain percentage of the older pets done before staff puts out new species, colors, or even experiments. Yes, new s/c/e's are nice and shiny and has everyone hyped for awhile, but then every other pet is left in the dust. I was both excited for the Scootle... and disappointed. It was because there are so many revamps needed and instead we received a new pet that might not get special colors for a long time. I love experiments being turned into normal pets too but those need to come after the existing species get more tidied up.

I love the idea of months related to cats, dogs, dragons, etc. Or even more general, months for mammals, reptiles, fantasy creatures, but all dedicated to the pets already existing.

Maybe it's not a good suggestion but if artists are lacking on concept ideas, maybe set up a system where people can send in ideas/sketches to staff for colors and species that exist already. I personally wouldn't make it a public thing but more like a form people can just submit whenever (+ there can be dropdown lists, one for species and one for color) and then artists can dig through by searching species, color, or a specific combo. From there they could mix-and-match. Also, set it up so that recently released pets (like say, within the past 1-2 years) are not able to be submitted, because I think that could be abused for people to critique newer pets they don't like, which is not the purpose of the feature. With this idea, I'd also set up rules. Such as "no new species/color suggestions", "avoid copyrighted ideas", etc. There could be a line in the news posts saying "thanks to (users who helped)" or like down in the comments, the staff can add notes of which users inspired the pet. I know concepts can be hard sometimes even for things that are pretty uniform (i.e. spectrum pets being a white/grey base with multicolor) and so this could be an option if artists are maybe struggling.

Maybe I'm overthinking, sorry!

Yeah I've found that I've been pretty disappointed in the lack of pet colors/updates. I know the artists have lives and there are more facets to the site but there are pets that have been on site since day 1 that haven't been done in several colors. And the art is super outdated. I really feel like that needs to be a priority on a pet site.

I don't think you understand: I don't care if pets are a free-for-all if they're getting released more often and it's also ridiculously limiting to say only one artist can give a specific species personality. If you hire an artist for pets they should be capable of drawing pets in a Subeta style and be ready to step up to another one when asked. It's not acceptable after all this time to invest a pet into a person when they could leave at any time and then you're right back to someone else doing the art anyway. It is an inevitability that the system will fall through and in the eyes of the users, it has. In fact, in the history of pet making that exact thing has happened and entire species have sat for years because of it. Your argument is exactly why having species assigned to a single artist is a problem and doesn't work. Sure, one artist CAN handle an entire species... if they actually release art. If they stay. If Subeta pushes for it. Our complaint is that pets are NOT coming out enough and it's NOT efficient.

We're tired of painterly Cash Shop backgrounds every month instead of pet content, even wardrobe hounds like myself. Look at the response to the blobs! I bought my first slot in years for one and I love them. It's been over a decade for me on Subeta, I know why the Hydrus Harvester exists. The problem is why does that old art still exist onsite in the first place after all this time, including after a full species revamp? The artist did a great job... and then STOPPED. Why didn't NK revamp the Hydrus Harvester - which was one of the lowest quality pets onsite at the time of the species revamp in the first place - in addition to the rest? Loving the characterization of the species for me doesn't excuse the missed colors. Saying 'there will be neglect no matter what' is frankly shocking in the face of that. There wouldn't have been if it hadn't been left incomplete!

I'm also sick of wearables and food. I make a new HA maybe every other month at best, it's okayish but it's not really my thing, and I don't really collect items besides stuff I need for treasure chests. Overall, pets are the only reason I'm here, I don't really have much of an attachment to the community or anything else since I have a few friends I really care about and that's it. x')

I definitely agree on the "give old pets the colors and revamps they need first" train, though. I feel like there's been more new species lately, between the Yaherra and Blob and Scootle and even the Zasaba, but there's a lot of pre-existing species that are missing colors or are seriously due for a revamp in a ton of colors (psst Aeanoids!!). It's sad to see those get left behind.

Ngl, in the past many years I've been a broken record of a countless number of pet related ideas and vague concepts (no one likes to be told how to do their job). So much so that I'm sure was probably happy when traveling for work consumed my life and I fell off the grid (sorry, I'm back again).

One idea from past ramblings I still hope to see one day would basically be an ice fields meets nature walk meets pet leashes, with exploring and items and just a solid reason to even have a leashed pet (or a new reason to have a GA, I suppose)?

But collectively the best thing for pets, for me at least, is the fact that regardless of the wearable aspect these days staff have really started giving us really functional items? Like it's 2018 and we just finally got a buncha cool tools from this years masq and I was so happy. Like what do I need a screwdriver for, idk yet but I'm so happy it's there. Now I don't have to buy CWs for eVeRyThInG because there's one that doesn't cost $6! That's neat.

That said, speaking of spending csc for a relatively basic item, I really want to see more pet related items? Either subeta pets or irl pets, and I would love to see a "pet shop" NPC and main shop dedicated to these species we have. Right now there's basically two catnip toys.... one is VERY very dated and the other is a collection item. Meanwhile we have three sets of not-converse. What's up with that?

Like where's my organic catnip toys in the shape of fishies and mice? Where's my raw ruffie food. Where's my pet beds, torrent pond kit, wyllop cages, wyllop water bottles, feli "can I fits" boxes, pherret hoard starter kit, rreign steak launcher (gotta exercise those wings right), etc etc etc! And yeah this is coming from someone who has mostly humanbased OC pets (and ponies), I still wanna see the next step of pet lore that also work great for TCs and could be made wearable.

Idk. Pets lacking specific colors is a thing, and I get ridiculously excited whenever a new one is released but I guess I've always been more concerned (see: obsessed) with TCs.

No, I do understand. I apologize if I made it sound like improvements or changes shouldn't be considered at all, I just have some experience with that particular way of doing things and I genuinely don't feel like more pets would come out under that system.

When I say there will be neglect either way, I mean that I feel nothing would fundamentally change simply by making it free-for-all and we might end up in a situation where we artists choose to draw the fun and exciting pets/colors and the harder/frustrating pets will get passed over or ignored.

I feel like anything I say will be a broken record at this point, but I agree with everything said above in that I just want more pet things... more lore, more pet-related items, more things to do with our pets on site because right now they kind of sit there (unless you're big into battling/training).

There are so many pets that need revamping and that have been the same since before I can remember. New pets are great, but older pets should take priority in finally getting color fills and re-working imo.

I love playing in my wardrobe, but there are literally thousands of clothes on site... can we maybe shift to what the site was originally supposed to be about for a bit?

I was going to make a big spoiler-list-filled post of all the colors we were missing just to show everyone how many there were, but I remembered posts have character limits and I would've reached it really fast. There are so many pets missing in colors like SPECTRUM which doesn't even have the excuse of being holiday-tied. Colors like Harvest I can excuse, and obviously stuff like the scootle isn't gonna have every special color. But the fact that some pets like the angelic illumis are missing... is borderline inexcusable. I feel so bad for tigrean fans, too. Not everyone is lucky like me to have the escalade as their fave, lol.

I would also love more to just "do" with our pets. Sure a bunch of my pets are OCs and most of those are human or humanoid characters. But... none of my fanpets are. And also I'd like to have things to do with pets where it doesn't have to be a battle pet. I'm not super into battling, Fourside is my "battle" pet, but Geno is my favorite pet and I like to dork around with him on my leash when I have a GA and I'd like some fun activities to do with him that don't have to do with beating things up...

Love the idea of the nature walk etc plus pet leashes. I'd like to see like, the pet's image beside a map or something while we adventure and we can find certain items. And maybe don't make them so frustrating like the snow field thing where it's just "and you have a 70% chance of getting lost you get nothing goodbye", but more of a you spend sP to go on a "hike" or something and the farther you go (which costs more sP), the high chance of finding better items.

Anything other than a vegan festival with like 3 t-shirts and more goddamn food please.

I agree with a lot of what's been said here. I don't know how exactly the artists go about with new species/color combos or revamps so I have no idea if there ways that could be improved, but. Sometimes I really wish there was a way of knowing what the priorities for pet colors/revamps are, because the way some species can go so long without new colors or updates is kind of... strange. I wish that new species wouldn't come out unless they had a special color or two either ready to go or close to ready. The scootle doesn't even have a scribble version for some reason?

Artists are probably excited to release new species, and with the.scootle I imagine they wanted to get it done during Vesnali,.but I feel like each new species released makes the species/color combos that are missing or outdated even more obvious. And sometimes it seems to take a long time for new colors to come out for a new species, which doesn't help at all.

I dunno. I don't exactly have recorded statistics to find out if I'm imagining this or not, but pet releases feel more sparse than they used to be,.and I've been a lot less invested in the Subetan holidays and things because of it. I'm sure the artists are busy, but it's a bit disheartening for us pet-focused people.

I agree with (almost) everything said on this thread. I joined Subeta for the pets. Everything else were just fun perks. I don't mind new items per se but I'm starting to be overwhelmed. Especially when there are pets in DIRE need of a redraw but are getting ignored. There are several pets I might have an interest in but they either havn't gotten the redraw or color I'm looking for. Sometimes I'll wait for the holiday they're associated with and there's nothing! I don't care about the newest back of earbuds for your HA. Subeta has had earbuds for years! This is a pet site not a "random stupid wearables" site!

What if we dedicated a year or two to just pets? Every month would be dedicated to a different pet. They'd get redraws, color additions, etc.

Have we all gone mad? Have we lost our minds? What used to be wrong, we say that is right.
