Lost to Buttwings with a tier 1 -no Lost to prodigy with tier 1 -no
Pet is active, I sent a friend request to Mathis, both his pets were added to my pets page
-sigh- well I am a moron. :)
Okay, I added everything I can remember. Sorry for the additional frustration, guys :(
MY STEPS
-Sent [NPC] Mathis a friend request
-Befriended both Captain Cuddles and Incinerator with one pet (my T1, Morose)
-Gave that pet a Fish Bones minion (because that is what 's pet Makalu had for a minion, LOL)
-Made that pet my active
-Lost a battle to Prodigy (it may have taken a few battles, I was just mindlessly clicking, lmao)
I was also battling with just two Unadorned Steel Swords I had made over at the Asmodeus Lab, though neither of them broke during the battle that I unlocked him on.
I'll try some stuff and see in the new hour once the resort takes effect, forgot to put my T1 in there earlier. :P

I was battling with Unadorned Steel Swords a lot yesterday and they weren't working. So I didn't unlock him with those alone if that helps any.
Me too. My concept was that his biggest fear is that his weapons would be the cause of someone getting hurt.
But we were told it's not about bad weapons :(

I tried battling with them until both of them broke and I had no weapons when I ultimately lost the battle. That didn't seem to work either :P
I'm just writing down what I tried. I have no idea what combination of steps actually worked. That's for you guys to try and pin down now :(

Well both my swords broke during a battle with Prodigy and still nothing happened. Oh well.
How do you friend pets? Sorry for asking, it's something I've never done before.

We got it? it doesn't work for me and if its not about "bad weapons" then i see no reason for him to get mad.

Does he pop up once you lose?
I just battled Prodigy with my main battle pet (T 11) and got nothing...I didn't use one of his swords (is there a list?) So...does the pet have to be T1?
On the flip side...Haneul lasted like...5 rounds or something like that....
Go to your pets page. There's a carrot to the right above your pets' hunger/happiness/likes. Click on it, 'friends' is the fifth option down.

Ok one last big hint: The way Makalu is now is the way I had her when I unlocked Mathis. I changed something because I suspected there was more than one way to unlock him so I was hoping one of you would try it and it would work. It worked :D

Did nothing special, had 2 weapons on me, t1, using only one weapon (sword), repeatedly losing to prod. Didn't change anything in between, suddenly it just worked.
