Drew watched as the other students headed to various places and debated. He loved dogs, but then again, the fwooper was so darn cute, even for someone who wasn’t into birds, like him. “Let’s visit the fwooper first,” he said to Magnus. “Then the crups.”

As they headed over to the bids, Drew said with a smile, “Fwoopers remind me of something that Dr. Suess could have come up with.”

Magnus nodded and the headed to the Fwoopers. One flew up and landed on Magnus' head. He giggled. "I like these guys." When Drew mentioned they looked like a Dr. Seuss animal, Magnus suddenly knew the boy was right. "Oh my hippogriff, your right. If they sell 'em maybe you should get one. Maybe I should get one." He laughed when the lime green one on his head stayed there as he walked to get the feed. He handed drew a handful of feed and got more for himself.

Laughing at Magnus’ new ‘hat’, Drew took the food. “Maybe that one wants to go home with you. Can’t you just see Mum’s reaction if I got one though? ‘You bought a what? Drew…do you know you have to update their silencing charms every month? Are you TRYING to drive me insane??’” Drew changed his voice to be higher as he asked the questions and then grinned at his friend. “I actually wouldn’t mind one, but I think you have to have a special license, so I might have to stick to just a quill from their feathers.” He offered the food to a pink fwooper that had landed on his arm. Before the first one could eat, an orange one fluttered to Drew’s shoulder. “Irwin wasn’t kidding about these animals all being very friendly.”

"Well, we can pass the silencing charm test," Magnus said confidently. "And maybe the license. You never know,' he said, "besides, ain't we all a little insane?" He giggled. When more arrived on Drew, he laughed. "These guys are too cute. We're gonna be covered in fwoopers." Sure enough a yellow one landed on Magnus' shoulder. "This is great!"

"Eeeeeeeeeeeee!!!" As soon as they were given permission, Jona grabbed Zoe's hand and ran out the bus up to the building that held the mooncalf. It was really dark inside, with the milky brightness that can only be supplied by a full moon. "It looks so real," he said when he saw the moon inside the room. Then he gasped as he turned around and saw the mooncalf. He was crazy excited, but knew better than to make loud noises, so his normally hoots and hollers became nearly muted under his breath; he instead made a squeaking noise that vocalized his excitement. "It's soooo cuuuute!" The little mooncalf looked up at him and blinked, making a yipping noise as it did. Its silouhette was not unlike a llama, expect for the webbed feet and dinner-plate eyes. "Oh, look!" Jona pointed to a basket near the entrance of the building. "D'you think those might be treats to feed 'im??"

“Just so long as it isn’t fwooper pooper we’re covered in, I’m okay with it,” Drew said laughing and sharing the food between the pink and orange birds that had landed on him. He was feeling a bit goofy and it showed in his comment, but really it was next to impossible to feel anything but happy with the bright colored Suess birds all around…and on them. “Darn it, Mags, they are just too cute. Now I want one! Wonder what the odds are.” He lifted a hand and waved at Irwin, hoping the guide would see and he could ask him how hard it would be to buy a fwooper.

The inside of the building was simply magical. "Woah," Zoe said It was beautiful inside. The mooncalf was pretty darn adroable with the long neck and big eyes. "Hi little guy," she said in a calm voice. When Jona pointed at the box, she nodded. "Let's get some food." She went over hand scooped out a large amount, Dumping it into Jona's hands and getting some more for herself. "You first," she said knowing he'd like it that way.

Magnus laughed. "Yeah that I don't fancy so much. But hey we learnt the cleaning spell." The boy laughed. "See, told ya."

Irwin spotted Drew's hand and came over. "Yes, I see you've met our fwoopers. What can I do for you?"

Nodding, Drew grinned at Irwin. “Yeah, we’ve met them and their so cool. We were wondering what you had to do to be able to have one as a pet. I mean I know about the silencing charms, but isn’t there a special registration you gotta have approved?” Giving Irwin a cheeky grin, he added, “Gotta think about adding to my zoo. And Mags likes birds. This is the first one I’ve ever really liked enough to think about for a pet other than owls.”

Irwin grinned. "I'm glad you like them. Well its not too hard really, at least not here," Irwin said with a smile. "First you have to prove you can cast a silencing charm. After that, you have to meet with someone who is licensed with the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. That person asks you some questions and makes sure you are understanding of the requirements animal needs. After a brief test and 5 galleon fee, if they approve your licence, voila you can purchase a fwooper for 20 galleons. The license goes on file and might be subject to a home inspection but that really only happens if there are complaints."

Magnus was beaming. They sold the fwoopers and it sounded pretty easy to get one. "See Drew?"

Niamh laughed at Jona's reaction - she was feeling almost as excited, but she tried hard to not look quite so over enthusiastic. She'd always wanted to see the Fwoopers, so she followed the two students she thought were called Drew and Magnus (she never was too good with names). Taking some of the food, she placed it on her hand and gasped as the Fwoopers swooped in and perched on her arms to try and nibble the food.

Paddy wasn't too fussed where everyone else was going - she knew which animals she wanted to look at, and the Crups were definitely first up. Checking she had the correct food for them, she crouched down and held out a furry handful of Crup-food, hoping that they would approach. Nothing happened to start with, which made her feel a bit silly, but suddenly three Crups chased towards her, bowling into her as they didn't quite stop in time. Paddy soon found herself being licked by the Crups, as they eagerly ate the food in her hand and tried to find which pocket had the rest of the food in.

“Really?” Drew asked with an amazed grin. “We can get one here? Today?” He couldn’t believe how easy Irwin made it sound. A tiny worry in the back of his mind wondered if he’d be able to produce a strong enough charm and pass the test. Still he couldn’t help but be excited. He turned to Magnus and said, “Now we just have to pick which color…and practice our charm work!”

Over Magnus’ shoulder, Drew noticed another student come over to visit with the fwoopers and smiled at the girl. She had been with Paddy earlier but Drew wasn’t sure about her name. It was an odd one, he did recall that much. ()

Turning back to Irwin, he asked, “So what else am I going to be able to add to my zoo? Crups?” he asked hopefully. “Dodger might like a new friend. Me and Mags are going to visit them next. And then I’d like to see the mooncalf.”

Niamh approached Magnus and Drew. Magnus hadn't really had a chance to interact with her before so he waved at her as Irwin explained how to get one of the birds. "Ain't these awesome," he said to her. "Gonna try to get one."

Irwin nodded. "Yes, as long as you meet the requirements, you can."

Magnus nodded to Drew. "I 'ope we can do it. I love the orange one its me favourite colour, though the pink one is cute...and the yellow one is pretty and i love the green ones too. Which colour would you pick if you can get it?" His eyes went over to the crups and he watches as Paddy was knocked over and licked. It was cute.

Irwin was amused Magnus liked every colour. "Yes, we sell crups here. You'll have to apply for a second license for 5 galleons and have to pass a test to prove you can control the crup in muggle areas because they are ferocious towards muggles. If you meet those requirements we sell them for 13 galleons." He paused. "Er, right, about the mooncalf... I'm sorry Mags, was it? I'm afraid you won't be able to go. See its enchanted to appear like the full moon. We can't know if that'll actually trigger your condition."

Magnus nodded. He looked sad though.

"I'm sorry," Irwin said. "Really."

"Its okay," Magnus replied, "I'll play with the fwoopers again or something. Drew'll tell me about it."

River went over to play with the Augureies. She was having fun with the bird.

Drew considered Magnus’ question and then said, “I think I like pink the best. And don’t you dare say anything,” he warned his friend with a smile. “Though orange is a close second. Bet you thought I’d say green didn’t you?” he teased Magnus.

Drew gave Irwin a huge grin as the guide told them that he could indeed buy a crup. “I’m glad I brought plenty of money with me,” he said. “I’m going to need it. And I haven’t even looked at the real giftshop yet! I know I’m getting books and who knows what else. Hogwarts might be overrun with new pets and items. Will the crups be young pups when we buy them?”

As Irwin explained why Magnus wasn’t allowed in to see the mooncalf, some of Drew’s smile faded. He hadn’t even thought about that being an issue and felt sad for his friend, but at the comment that he’d tell Magnus all about it, he nodded. “You better believe I’ll tell you all about it,” he assured Magnus. “Too bad I can’t draw like you or you could have a lifelike picture of it. I might try to sketch it anyway just for fun.”

"I like the pink," Magnus replied sticking out his tongue. "Er, I didn't really think about it. But yeah I guess I probly would've thought you'd go for green."

Iwrin laughed. "We do get a lot more animal sales when parents aren't present. Sounds like you'll be having fun shopping for sure. Yes, there are some young ones. None under eight weeks though, since a painless severing charm must be used for the forked tail, according to wizard law. We are able to keep the ones here as they are since no muggles will be able to enter this place. We have books on the mooncalf, posters and a large stuffed animal too. Tell you what, I'll give you one of those, because you can't go in."

"Really?" Magnus asked smiling. "Thanks. I'll pick one when we go in." To Drew he smiled. "I'll let you borrow me sketch book so you can give it a go."

After the adorable Diricawls, she had managed to capture the mother Occamy and her eggs, the winged horses--Abraxans, Aethonans, and Granians--who had left her delighted and temporarily speechless, George the sea serpent, and the lit up Clabberts, all on her Omnioculars. She was looking forward to sharing the footage with her friends who weren't on the trip. The sun hadn't burned her at all, even though she was becoming more freckly to her dismay. Irwin was so knowledgeable, and Mr. Cassidy was interesting. The tour bus was cool and comfortable, luxurious in fact. Her favorite parts of the trip had been the winged horses and the restaurant, until they reached the petting zoo.

"Aww!" Poppy made a beeline for the Crups as soon as she stepped off the bus. She loved canines, and the little one wagging his tail excitedly was no exception. Poppy recorded him chasing his tail and then got down on the ground to pet and play with him. "Magnus ()! She smiled encouragingly, "I can record the Mooncalf with my Omnioculars and show you that way if you like. I have quite a thorough record of our field trip."

"This little one reminds me of a miniature Dodger, Drew ()," Poppy laughed as the Crup licked her cheek. "Are you going to see the Mooncalf too? Would you like to go in with me?" The girl had never seen a Mooncalf before and was eagerly awaiting her first encounter.

She turned her Omnioculars to and the three Crups surrounding her. "Smile Paddy! They really love you huh? This teeny one has been stealing my heart. I swear, cute creatures make me go to pieces."

"Okay!" He said brightly, but as he trotted up to feed the mooncalf, he looked back at Zoe. "What if...what if we do it together?" He took Zoe's hand gently in his so that their two hands created a small bowl that held the feed. Guiding their hands, Jona put the feed just over the fence and waited for the mooncalf to come to them.

Nodding at Irwin’s answer about the crups, Drew was eager to see the puppies and pick one hopefully. He heard his name and turned to grin at Poppy as she pointed out a crup that did resemble Dodger. “Oh gosh, he does!” Drew said. “And aww, he’s giving you kisses. They’re so cute!”

He was glad to hear Irwin was giving Magnus a present since his friend couldn’t go see the mooncalf. At the offer of Magnus’ sketchbook, he said, “Um…sure, if you’re not afraid I’ll mess it up.” Poppy’s offer of recording the event was awesome and Drew gave his fellow Slytherin a grin. “That’s a great idea, Poppy. That way it will actually look like a mooncalf should instead of my drawing,” he laughed. “I’d love to see all the shots you’ve taken today at some point… if you don’t mind. And yep, I was going to head to see the mooncalf. I’d really like to go along with you,” Drew said with a slightly shyer smile. He was really enjoying getting to know Poppy more this term.

“We’ll be back soon, Mags,” Drew called to Magnus. “And you can critique my artistic skills. I can’t wait to see how closely your stuffed mooncalf resembles the real one.”

Magnus and Drew made their way over to the crups. “’Ey Paddy, they sell Crups ‘ere. Gotta pass a wee test and prove you can ‘andle ‘em but if so, you can buy one.” He noticed how taken she seemed. When Poppy offered to record the mooncalf, Magnus smiled. “Really? That’d be great! Thank you.” Magnus found one crup that seemed to really like him and he petted that. Dogs were hit or miss with Magnus.

Magnus pulled his sketchbook out and handed it to Drew. “Nah, can always take it out if need be, but ‘ey would be nice to ‘ave a Drew Wilder original. Okay, ‘ave fun.” As he watched Drew and Poppy enter the building, even with the offers, he still couldn’t help feeling down about not being able to go. “Guess I’ll work on the silencing charm,” he said to himself.

Zoe smiled and nodded. “Alright,” she said. Their bowl made out of their hands waiting for the animal. He came slowly, as if not a care in the world. Then suddenly he leant over and started munching, tickling Zoe’s hand when his tongue touched them. “Wonder what his name is.”

"I'm gonna call him Moonpie," Jona said, then giggled at the thought. He had a tendency to name animals after food. When the mooncalf finished the food, Jona rubbed his palms against his jeans to wipe off the debris. "Man, I could probably stay with this lil guy forever."

"He is really cute," Zoe said petting the creature's head. He closed his eyes enjoying the pet. "I doubt they'll have any to sell though."
