I realised my last post was just ya. Anywho....my problems with it other than I dont like it
" This means you should organize your weapon (and scroll sets) accordingly."
Can everyone honestly say they use their scrolls a set way every time? After reading the other posts I know the answer. I dont. One battle I might use a healer first the next Ill use a freezer. Reducing time on this isnt happening with me. Even If I set up my 3 sets a certain way I wont always use em that set way. I hate dropdowns more that I hate scrolling. At least with scrolling, its like Boom youre there.
" Scrolling has been added to the commentary. Now you can see what weapons do and the lovely attack text without having to scroll all over the place!"
I guess Ill never see the total of damage I do anymore. Not like I paid much attention to it before But I would at least notice it when I had to scroll down to repick weapons & scrolls. Truth, I cba to scroll down a separate section just to see that. How was it scrolling all over the place? You scroll down, its there. IDK. Now you have to actually move your mouse (whatever you use) over & then scroll.
Because ive taken my sweet a** time doing my BQs tonight, I dont know in the end if this will be faster for me or not. It usually takes me 10-12min to do between 21-25 BQs. Right now, I do see it taking me longer. Only because of the dropdowns. Im lazy, but Im not that lazy to scroll down, do 1-4 clicks, boom on to the next one. Which is how it was before.
anyways just thought id give more input than my last post. shrugs
EDIT The links on the top of the page during/after battle make no sense to me. But it does make me need to scroll down to see the "see results" button. could you chuck that up top again? I know Im contradicting myself with the lazy but not that lazy to scroll comment. but ya :)
[flower=CastlesInTheSky] [tot=CastlesInTheSky] Dear users who keep blocking me....Remind me again, who TF are yous? ¯(ツ)/¯
just like with any new UI it will take a bit of time getting used to how things work. but i think i will have to see if zooming out will give me the space i was used to in the previous UI.
this is actually really convenient against weak challengers that can be defeated in a single move. yay. i just tried using the default selection of weapons, and not having to scroll was niceee ~~~~~~~
i'm not a serious battler, but this is really nice. and almost no reloads either? much like in vending? i really like that too! might get into battling more now ;)
I really have to update my blog ObscureJourney and my review site BeingObscure. French speakers can read my reviews here.
Personally, I love these changes! I wasn't sure about the scroll dropdown but having re-ordered my scrolls to take advantage of the new system, it seems thoroughly improved to me.
I am sympathetic to those who are having trouble with the changes though. I hope some compromise can be reached that will satisfy everyone without drastically changing what we have here now (even if that means providing alternate formats to choose from).
(BTW, hate to praise Neo for anything at this point, but looking at those screenshots posted really makes me wish we had some in-battle Coliseum art...it would make battling a lot more immersive and visually interesting...)
</p>I absolutely love these changes. They make battling much faster and more streamlined for me. I usually use my healing scroll on every turn, so the drop down menu is not really a problem for me. I also almost never use potions. I like this popup idea as a solution to the drop down menus though. I'm not sure whether it'll really help, since I can imagine having to hover over potions/scrolls every turn would be a bit tedious too.
It would be nice if the total damage and healing done would be at the top instead of all the way to the bottom of the scroll box; that way with a bit more difficult battles it's easier to judge which weapons are more effective against the opponent.
Wow, thanks for the new UI! 😊 I've read almost all the replies and I agree with some users:
Oh wow this is so so much better. I might start doing Battle Quests again because of the efficiency improvements. Thank you!
Speiro I love you and your way of pinning info in a few words! :-)
O.k., people, this is a HUGE change after living with and having automated something for 10 years! Clicking the weapon instead of the tiny square (which I honestly missed pretty often), could have been achieved in the old make up. Having weapons prechosen is not helpful in shorter battles, where you do not use the same to constants for a dozen moves in a row - which I hardly do anyway. As I said being able to click the weapon really fast is enough "help".
Not seeing my scrolls (I was already against even stacking) them is an absolute no go! Seeing them sitting there side by side ordered by type and colour gave me an immediate overview, which and how many thereof are still there. Now I need to use the dropdown - I thought it might open the usual row of scroll images, but instead I have to go reading forever?!??
I don't want to have to continuously be forced to hold down this drop down menu, to check, which scrolls are still there, I need to see this in one glance as I go on choosing and battling. And how does needing to drop down, READ and choose make it faster than just a quick glance, what I have and choose? Again there being able to click the scroll instead of the small checkbox would be the only improvement.
My first choice of scroll resulted in an automated "Make your turn", because the choice I clicked was on top of that button - happens a lot on the site, but may bring unwanted results and losses, if you mischose or just simply want to change your mind again.
Fortunately I refrain from and hardly need to use potions, due to the ordeal of equipping them. I NEED TO SCROLL to see them all. And now I need to read a novel! Instead of choosing the well known purple or blue bottle!!!! This is even more crazy than the scrolls! I need to keep looking more left to right plus up/down, instead of simply fluently down to the end of the page to press "make your turn". Also pressing enter after choosing the weapons (fast battling in one turn or scroll less battles) doesn't work anymore!!!
Furthermost: This is a petsite, I am here for my pets. AGAIN you made the pets (and challengers even more so) shrink with windowsize!!!! who would even play with only one window open? Or what if people have smaller screens?
Just noticed this: Now I have to scroll (a lot due to the shrunk more lenghty window!) to see the "unorganized" icons, which weapons I have used (I can't even see the first weapon's full info without scrollong!!!), I can't see, what icons I did, which the opponent did or blocked without constant scrolling, because nothing is viewable in one window anymore. I have to scroll to see, how much damage or healing was done by either of us. How will this make battling any faster, if I have to look up everything every turn to get my info.
Before I did a fast scroll down to the scrolls, during this getting my info about the turn - icons and damage and block and heal (or if it was a negligible move/battle, I could just use the "end" key and move on with battling.
So far I absolutely HATE it except for being able to click the weapon image. And there my monkism is highly disturbed, that underneath the weapons change into wrong order. Why do we have the extra line of chosen weapons, when they are highlighted anyway? Please use this space for the scrolls instead!!!!
Why can't you make it faster with the old layout?!???
(have yet to read everybody elses response.) Maybe there are a lot of people, who hate it and make you do useful changes if not revert it again. If not, I hope one of our geniuses here come up with a custom script. This change is rightout aweful. And it takes up wayyyy more time, disturbs every fluency. My main goal here is strong pets and battling, this drives me off big time :-(
I can confirm it was truly a pleasure to fly through battle quests. I am in the fortunate position where I don't have to process my actions - my pet is strong enough to steam roll anything with enough healing - so it was just a matter of clicking through each battle. I would like to see the scrolling adjusted, however, as it was disorientating to not see my health and damage after every turn.
Would be great to see some further efficiency improvements to BQs, just because it's so monotonous and most of the clicking is moving from one quest to another.
Great to see that battling is having some updates :)
I like the compact design reducing scrolling its a big help
Also I like the weapon choice boxes, I like that the first two items are already chosen which meant after a little editing my usual succession of choices for most battles was in order saving time and clickage
Only part I was less keen on is the drop down list for choosing scrolls, I would prefer a similar idea to the weapons boxes with pics of the scrolls .. however if that took up so much room that scrolling had to be reintroduced then I would prefer to stick with the current system. It would seem sensible to keep the whole thing on one screen including the 'Make your turn' box which for me works far better
Just did my bq and it was far more fun, less of the boring stuff and more being able to see what is going on in the battle and all on one screen ... excellent it was also faster by cutting out the dull stuff .. big thumbs up from me
Overall this is a very positive change so thanks for all the hard work
After thinking about it a little bit more, I think I need to put this out there. I'm sorry in advance if I inadvertently hurt anyone (though I will try my best not to do so) but I'm very, very upset about these changes.
Potential issues/ problems for pre-selected weapons I can see and acknowledge that pre-selected weapons make a great and quick solution where weapons don't matter much, and every turn becomes a repetitive experience. This is suitable for very weak opponents relative to our pet's strength, or very strong pets at T13 who can just breeze through anything with two weapons.
However, this might not work that perfectly for the following:
People with smaller pets (like I do) who are struggling with opponents slightly above our range, where weapon choices matter, and we still need to tailor our moves to our opponents. Although it can be argued that I can easily deselect them by picking another two weapons, having two weapons readily selected and highlighted feels like the move is dictated for me and look very distracting (because only two of those are in full colours while others are greyed out, as if they're less important for that first move), and I don't like that feeling. I personally feel that, while the new pre-selected weapons make it easier for repetitive battling, the downside to it is that it also promotes mindless clicking and simultaneously a move away from slower, strategical battling to a certain extent, because having two weapons selected for us is a convenience and convenience does form a habit of us paying less attention and just clicking submit to breeze through a battle. I am very much for strategical battling and love the old format because it encourages me to pause and think before making my move.
For opponents that steal, and while fortunately there are not many of them, some of them are extremely RNG and annoying. What happens if GE, Mama Forj, Cinthi or Chase steals one of the first two weapons, and we click Submit out of reflexes and habit (which the current feature inherently promotes and encourages), thinking the first two weapons are still intact and we're safe with that pre-selected combo? At least with the old layout, when I have to manually select two weapons, I pay closer attention to their images and would immediately notice if something is missing. And yes, I'm making this argument fully aware of the weapon count counter-argument, but if one uses an item-generating weapon, such as Natasha, a quick glance at the number of items in a set after a turn won't be enough. I actually prefer it the old way when I am forced to pay attention to whatever Cinthi or Chase has stolen, because in some cases my victory or loss depends greatly upon the item they steal.
Having said that, I understand why pre-selected weapons work for some battlers and why they prefer those, as well as why they work for some battles. I'm not against making battling less tedious for them, but I do hope that changes like these, that affect many users and will transform battling experience, would have been brought up first so we can weigh in our opinions and come to a mutual solution as to what would work best for all concerned. As far as I know, the pre-selected weapons feature, while having its own strength, is still up for debate in the Battle UI Suggestion thread. Others' counter-arguments have their merits as well, and I'd really appreciate it if we can have a way of communicating with staff like what did for the previous thread: Changes are in the air! where changes are announced before they are made so that other users can provide their suggestions while there is still opportunity to do so. I understand that as staff members you guys will have the final say, but I'd appreciate the chance to give some input no matter what.
Finally, I do hope that extras such as weapon highlights will be made customisable through CustomCSS. I'm aware of the weapon highlight code but I don't use it for a reason, and I'd much prefer if it is made an 'extra' feature so people can opt to use it or not rather than pushing it as a default change that is more difficult to come up with CustomCSS solutions.
Despite all of my rant, I'm still thankful for the effort you have put into the site to make it a more enjoyable playing experience. It just happens that battling has recently become the sole reason I'm still here on Subeta after near 10 years, and I feel very strongly about it.
Put my longwinded explanation in short precise words. Exactly how I feel!
I like this for BQing and boss battles. I like it less for battles where I have to pay attention. It would be nice of you could turn auto select off and on according to how/who you are battling.
I quickly got use to clicking the weapons at the top. The spells were a bit more annoying, since once I get to battles where I need to watch when I freeze and when I heal, it felt like more work to select a spell than before. I don't want potions auto selected. I use the full block and chance to freeze potion, so I won't be using them until much later in the fight. Imp Forge would be the only one where auto select potion would be a help since you will be using the water potion every move.
Also I found myself ignoring my pet's health with it on the left side. Normally I'm always aware of when I need to use my healers, now it was almost a surprise when I noticed his health was low. I feel like I have to pull my attention away from weapon/spell/potion selection to check up on my pet's health. I'll probably get use to it though.
I would like the Game Over - See Results button above the weapon selection, since you aren't selecting weapon/spells/potions when the battle is over.
I scroll more on the You Won/Lost/Tied screen now that the links are at the top. I would like those taken off for that page or shrink the text/padding/spacing on that page so you can get to the Battle Quests/Fight This Opponent Again!/Back to Challenger Page buttons without scrolling.
I second the people saying put the damage and healing at the top of the battle text boxes. Seeing that is more important than the flavor text and it now takes more scrolling to see it than before.
I also agree with not putting the curses/blessings in a circle. It looks weird and makes me think something is wrong with the pics. If the pics are too big, just shrink them so they fit.
I think it has a lot of potential but needs the above tweaks. Not bad for a first draft.
Personally, sometimes I just click through (and on those days faster would be better), but sometimes I play with weapon choices. I try to see if I can one hit kill with just a single weapon, or with two weapons and no scroll. I try to end every battle with full health. With the new system I don't do that, I just click until I get to Level 20. I don't even look. That might be nice at first,, but will it get boring fast? Will BQs become just a (much quicker than before) chore?
I think what I'm asking is wouldn't it be better to somehow make it more fun/interesting rather than just faster? If the goal is to do BQs daily, then should it be something we look forward to, rather than a chore to get over with? Or is it really just about earning the EXP?
By the way, I love that you have a pet named Algebra!
If you custom CSS, would you kindly share?! Please?!
I managed to beat Prodigy with only auto battle - took a few more turns as I didn't use freeze scrolls or bombs - but it was faster regardless. For me that's a good change.
I don't do battle quests daily any more because they take too much time for not enough return. I used to be very passionate about battling but that's fizzled out in the past couple of years with the lack of substantial improvements and a lack of challenge, generally. The journey to a high-tier battle pet is far more interesting than the destination, in my opinion. It's great that I can be competitive in boss battles but I don't enjoy day-to-day battling nowadays. So anything that takes the tedium out of it is great. I used to enjoy strategising with each challenging battle but that's basically gone for a basic routine of bombs, freezing then constants. So yeah, for me, battling isn't really fun. I'm not sure what would make it fun for me at this point without a massive overhaul, unfortunately.
Haha and thank you! Maths graduate and survived. Algebra and his beloved companion, Wolfram Alpha, have guided me through the darkest times. :P
Instead of scrolling the page you can now scroll droplists :D
Not a fan of having default choices for weapons and scrolls. And overall the whole page feels claustrophobic.
Don't ping/quote! Not here to drama...
Nobody likes change at first. :P I really think this system needs to be given a chance before any more changes are made. If you are serious about battling there are a lot of other was to train your pet other than exp points. Invest some sp in boosters, do Quentins quests everyday for amulets, do Shinwas quest everyday etc. Plus you could invest in better weapons.
Also personally I have never used scrolls or potions. Don't see the point really.
I love this new layout, makes battling so much easier. Less repeat on battles that are no brainers.
It would be nice if when you click a second weapon that it negated weapon B rather than A but that is a really minor thing.
Only seeing this now: Curses & blessings are circled. Why? Especially why aren't the circles big enough for the full image to show? In this battle I only had 6 active and now I know, what people were referring to, when they talked about "cramped". Those 6 still fit, even though the pet's touched the challenger's; what if we have 8?
And deselecting to get to my actually wanted weapon sometimes is an endless clicking error.
People, this is all an absolute no-go.
I never had problems with loading once I was on the battle screen (unless the site dwindled down). The delay was always getting onto the page, where you choose pet and equipment and then getting INTO battle. Half a minute to a minute - this is, why I always fall asleep during BQs and why it takes me 2 hours to get them done, even though till 25 they are all 1 or 2 click battles. Said delay still persists.
Having said that - the new drop down nuisance will require MUCH more attention. I battle in one window, while I simultaneously quest or do other things in the 2nd. I won't be able to effectively continue with that, while still needing endless time for the initial 2 loading steps plus more time for the battle itself with all the new search & find obligation.
I am aware of other methods to raise a pet's stats. However, I do believe that people who want to use boosters will use them regardless of the battle UI, and those who prefer to battle the hard way for EXP will still choose to not use boosters. There is nothing wrong with either way, and choosing to use boosters or not doesn't make one more, or less of a serious battler. I therefore personally think that boosters is not a relevant suggestion here because the main point of any UI improvement is not to drive people away from earning EXP and opting for another method of increasing stats.
I might have made it more dramatic than it should be, and I don't see any change would massively drive people away from battling, even the Tier system many years back, but some changes do get in the way of some battlers' battling styles. I'm aware that no change can satisfy everyone, and I'm willing to live with pre-selected weapons despite not liking the feature, but potions and scrolls play a big role in many battlers' sets and strategies, and smaller pets rely more on potions and scrolls for early or emergency wins than bigger pets do. For site events and battles, where there is limited time to earn loot and many want to get involved in battling, potions become an important part for casual battlers or smaller pets, as I have learned from my personal experience with the Panzer Hydra series. The old layout, while probably outdated in many respects, is excellent in laying out these third and fourth weapon options visually and make battling easy for many people. To this end my battling style (no potion, minimal scroll, just as yours) doesn't matter at all, what matters more to me, personally, is to help others who are less familiar with battling and still need to rely on those options to get their wins and desired loot the easiest and most engaging way possible. To me it's achievable and effective through the use of visuals. That's why I think the visual display of those important and I'd like to retain that in any future UI improvement.
