So, I'm just starting out baking (still level 2- gave up a while back due to price inflation.) Is there any strategy for what items to bake to get the most experience the fastest / the cheapest? Also things I should stock up on while the prices are low (aka, before they release an achievement.)
I believe the only real difference within each level, in terms of baking experience earned per item, can be found by looking at the time required to bake each item. Generally speaking, the items that require the most amount of time (within each tier) will award the greatest amount of experience points. For example, if you are level 2, then you should bake: Homemade Chocolate Cake or Dark Matter Whoopie Pie.
I would just stock up on things like butter, sugar, milk, eggs, flour, and predictable ingredients or things you see being used a lot. It is really impossible to guess what random items might be used in the future. I hope that helps answer some of your questions -- feel free to ask any and all you might have. C:

I really really extremely want:Uf. This process is kind of annoying... Considering I was still level 2 at the start of yesterday, and now I'm about a third of the way through 5, I think I'm doing pretty fine. But overall, this seems like it'll be a drag- especially getting into the later levels. There are just too many clicks to get every ingredient out and ready, and the progress bar is starting to move very slowly.
Right now, I'm going to just start baking oodles of Spinach Egg Pies, because it's one of the few things that takes a while (for the sake of xp), but also doesn't require Ground Cinnamon, Cocoa Powder, or Baking Powder... For the people who are into level 20, I can't even imagine the fortune you've spent.
Some of the staple item prices have gotten so crazy expensive. Pink food coloring is required in several recipes and I have to just skip out on those ones.
It mostly comes with time not fortunes spent. I baked more than 150 of the beehive cornbread simply because at the time it was the cheapest/most efficient way to get up in levels. The leveling is a very slow process though, so just keep pushing through and you will make it. <3

I really really extremely want:Yeah, I'm definitely getting the sense of the time. I'm setting a timer though, and being proactive with getting supplies out. Currently at 38% through level 6 (thanks to the Spinach Egg Pie and now Rustic Vetan Orange Ginger Bread). Not bad for two days work. The time drain on this is intense though. (I can't even imagine being at 21!) I expect I'll give up once I reach lvl 17 and can make everything.
I did spend a fortune just stocking up though. At some point, achievements will hit for the bakery, and if I happen to still be working when they do, prices are going to skyrocket. It just takes so many attempts to gain a level (not even including the burns.) I know my stockpile will empty out quite quickly if I'm still baking at the same speed, but alas.
I've made everything now....and am kinda bored :( Only at level 19, but I haven't been baking as much lately.
There are items your pets can eat for Achievement that are only gotten via Fantine's Baking, so there are already Achievements. It's usually just cheaper to buy them from someone than bake them yourself.
Doing all the clickety in order to get your ingredients ready etc. This is kinda like real baking, you have to read the recipe and get your ingredients together the right temperature mix them in order so it never occurred to be that it wasn't a feature.
Eventually you will reach the point where you no loner burn items, I am not sure what level it is exactly. When was the last time you burnt an item, and what level were you?
What you mention about achievements with items that need to be baked is true, and those items are listed in the FAQ section. C: What is being discussed above is the fact that the SubetaTeam has said that there will be more achievements based solely in Fantine's Bakery and items therein.

I really really extremely want:Reading through some post stuff, it looks like the burn rate decreases at maybe level 10. I burned something yesterday at either early level 6 or late level 5.
That is what I thought, that it was between 10-13. So maybe if you could keep track of it and post it here I could update that into the FAQ. That would be super helpful if you could. <3

I really really extremely want:Sure, sure. I'm level 7 now and haven't burned anything since yesterday. I haven't been keeping very good track, but will do so now. Still have a while til level 10. Overall, I think I'm burning fewer things than I was in the beginning. Not sure if it's a slow decrease or a hard drop at level 10.
[edit] L7, 89% : Oh No! You burned the Bee Hive Cornbread!
Thanks for the updates, I really appreciate it!
Wow, you burnt a cake at level 19?!? I am shocked! I have not burnt anything since surpassing level 11-12. Perhaps there is something being tweaked in the system? Though, as an avid baker in RL I never burn anything. If the SubetaTeam is trying to make this like RL, then the burning should really slow down or stop as soon as the baking level includes difficult items (around level 12).

I really really extremely want:I am currently at 44% of level 26 and I surely burned at least one thing at 25. I don't think after certain level they cut down burning completely, just make a chance for it much smaller.
Yes, I am thinking that must be it, the lowering substantially.
Have any of you ever needed to replace a pan or an oven mitt? If so, do you recall which ones they were or around what level it occurred? It has only happened to me twice; one time I needed to replace an oven mitt and the other time a round baking dish.

I really really extremely want:I think I had to replace some baking dish only once and it was very long ago so I couldn't be more than level 10.
I had no idea that replacing a pan or oven mitt was even a thing, so no, haven't had to do it. I'm half way through level 8, and will keep an eye out.
Yup, I burned at lvl19. I've had to replace two pans, but I don't think I've ever had to replace an oven mitt. I don't remember the levels though.
L7, 88% : Oh No! You burned the Bee Hive Cornbread! L8, 91% : Oh No! You burned the Bee Hive Cornbread! L8, 99% : Oh No! You burned the Bee Hive Cornbread! L9, 19% : Oh No! You burned the White Chocolate Pumpkin Cake Bites! L9, 20% : Oh No! You burned the Marshmallow Spaceship Cake!
... grumble grumble grumble Can someone please, oh please, tell Fantine to turn down the oven?
Of course I would burn the two L9 items (in a row) that require the incredibly expensive and . Come on! You couldn't have burned during the last 18 Bee Hive Cornbreads?!
Urf. Wouldn't be so bad, but I'm out of my stockpiles, and also sadly out of Baking Starter Kits. So if I want anything else made with Ground Cinnamon, Cocoa Powder, or Pink Food Coloring, I'll have to buy from the shops. (I still have one more Burnt Sugard Doughnut...)
