Oh I definitely agree with that, I meant in general I hope people can see that. I really wish there'd be more word from staff but I can understand why they might not want to comment on some things.
I don't think anyone should give money when they don't want to just to keep the site afloat, I'm just saying that when people are afraid to buy CSC that doesn't help anything and the problems they complain about definitely can't be fixed due to the lack of money. I definitely get not wanting to invest in something that you see as dying but not investing also hastens the demise. That's all I meant. I never said people should have to buy CSC or anything like that, lol. I guess I just wasn't clear in what I meant.
- Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well... that no one who has the money would want to buy Subeta. I'm also scared of it meeting the same fate as Neopets if it was bought out. Considering that a lot of people here are Neopets refugees, I believe this fear is widespread.
But, if nothing is done soon, then there might be no more chances for Subeta to survive. I don't know what course of action would be best. I would say hiring volunteers to help out is a good idea as there were users willing to do this, but the idea was shot down.
I feel like we're between a rock and a hard place. :x
- It's okay, I know I was pretty hasty with my assumptions. I do agree with you and I'm glad there's still financial support going on. I hope the support is enough to keep the site running until a long term solution is found.
Yes, I remember this and it has stuck with me too. The dialogue has shifted from 'I would never sell the site' to 'Even if I were to sell the site, who would buy it given how out of vogue pet sites are?' Not sure where it was said originally but that was the gist.
I believe Keith still cares about the site otherwise he would have just torn it down already instead of keeping it limping along. I don't blame him for not making this a full time job either. If the site can't make money how is he supposed to support himself if this is his only income? It makes sense why we have all the problems we do if there are only two programmers, one who's definitely not full time and the other who might be but probably isn't ? He should hire a consultant or two to work full time on the issues.
Programmers, consultants and so on need to be paid though and I doubt that Subeta has the money to hire even just one. I mean, they haven't even replaced the artists that left.
Also, there is a difference between caring about something, and making it a priority.
I was assuming that his main source of income was enough to support him and help pay to hire someone, but you're right. I don't know his financial situation. For all we know he could be having financial issues that are taking priority in his life. There's also a difference between wanting to make something priority and not being able to. The lack of communication is really disturbing though.
Self-fulfilling prophecy, honestly. You don't put the time into maintaining the site because it's not profitable, people get upset and gradually spend less time/money on the site, and the site becomes less profitable.
Similarly, they didn't finish the wardrobe (their big money maker) before Scarsdale left, and now they don't have the resources to finish it or the money to hire a replacement programmer.

Every once in a while there is a topic like this one with a lot of hysteria and then nothing happens to Subeta and things are moving on..
4 days ago asked here to comment or sMail her the details about the error that you get and she's informing the programmers. So as you can see, they are working on the stability. But of course, it would be better to post about it here too and not only on the other topic..
Today I had zero errors so far. The HTTPS error was fixed very quickly and we had an announcement about that.
The lack of content is kinda normal in between holidays, Fireside will start between the 20th-22th along with the Black Friday and immediately after that it's Luminaire..
I posted about it there because that is the bug board and this is a feedback board. I didn't want to step on any toes by posting it in several places. I have started a table though and hopefully it will help but I have only gotten 2 set of data so far so I don't want to send that little bit to them. Anyone is welcome to send more!

Thanks for clarifying! (sorry if it looked like I'm blaming you, it was not my intentions) :)
I will send you in case I'll have an error
Off-Topic: AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :D
No no no! Not at all! I just wanted you to know why xD I had actually thought about posting here too but thought that the other would be sufficient since a lot of people already offered. (and thank you)

I feel like we are never getting cults again, at this point, they're the equivalent of the Neoschools on Neopets.
Rah said that she was okay with having a small tight-knit art team in the past. Considering how neglected some creative parts of the site are, I'm not sure a small team is the way to go.
They really should have been replaced, and another writer should be on the staff. The Subetapedia should be the bible to our lore, and it's still a complete WIP. Seriously, we need a designated writer that doesn't have too much on their platter.
Jessi does a fine job, but it seems like she is overworked with the CW queue, for the little time she has (I know she has at least another job outside of Subeta, maybe more.)
@ Sopheroo
Nah, the recode is our version of Neoschools.
Weren't the new and fancy (and kind of abandoned and unfinished?) forum groups supposed to replace cults? The ones with private forums and the shared item feature that doesn't work because the wardrobe v2 is gone.
They were, and I think for the most part they do. I feel like it was never formally announced though? I remember Keith inviting people to his testing group to test private forums, but I thought they were still a work in progress up until Team Gold made a private forum during this last event.
I seem to remember him getting sidetracked by the shared clothing feature, and then jumping back to the wardrobe before he could finish.

You're right, it was never formally announced that forum groups were going to take over for the cults! I do believe it was mentioned once or twice on the forums in passing. Considering that cults are buggy, dead and haven't been touched in, something like 8-10 years? Survey says: it's dead, Jim.
The private group forums kind of work, kind of don't?
There were shenanigans aplenty with that during the Omen plot. I was a member in a Team Gold ping group that was turned private early in the event, but there was a good number of users who weren't allowed access to the group's private forums. The site was convinced they weren't part of the group after it was changed from public to invite-only, or something. Suffice to say, it was kind of a buzzkill.
I don't blame Keith for his shifting interests. He's still a young guy and he's been working on Subeta for a long time, it's only natural for him to want explore his options and see what else is out there.
I do blame him for not passing the authority to someone who can make a difference. Amber, Grace and Rah have all stepped up where possible but it doesn't feel like they have the autonomy to call the shots where it's necessary, nor the information to comment on topics like this. The site's issues are glaringly obvious to anyone who actively plays the site. We need someone who can make the relevant financial decisions and allocate resources where necessary; with Keith currently removed from the process, this seems like a big roadblock.
I thought it was part of Carol's tasks, surprised to see that it actually isn't. D:
Carol is also someone that imo, is really involved with the site, we just don't see her as much in public.
