Not sure about pinging or not for entries. :/ But whenever I think of forests I start thinking about all the books I devoured in my youth, usually fantasy based like LOTR and the scenery that 'some' authors described so well that you could feel like you were part of the story world. So not really a memory exactly, but still what forests remind me of.

Alright stories about forests.
When I was younger, my father and mother loved to drive out to lakes, and forests. At the time we lived in Sweden, (I was around 5-8) and there was a lot of green. One time we drove out to a lake, and decided to go fishing. My dad didn't have a great idea of how to fish, and being a child neither did I. My mom packed sandwiches, juice and what not, and we waited. For the longest time I insisted we put the small crabbing net onto the left side of the fishing spot-except my dad was certain the right side had more fish/crabs/etc. So at the end of the day, I saw an entire school of fish swim by on the right, and to this day I still wonder if we would have eaten fish for dinner if he switched sides :3 but it was a great day nonetheless.
and - Thank you for the clarification regarding the HA contest!

There are really a lot of great memories of forests for me, though strangely as kids, we always just called forests "the woods". I think one of my favorite memories was as an older kid at daycare, like 5th grade or so. We were old enough to go for walks in the woods and explore with our teacher. It was a really special treat because it didn't happen often (only once or twice a summer) and it was only something that the "big" kids could do. We would be gone for a good two or three hours on those treks. So much fun!

Thank you ALL for your great entries! I read through them all and it made me very nostalgic for the few times I went camping or got a chance to hang out in the woods. :') I was especially happy to see so many Lord of the Rings mentions, haha! As someone who hasn't spent a lot of time in forested/wooded areas myself, I have to say that a good high fantasy novel really makes me think of majestic forests as well.
Good luck to everyone for today's contest!
My favorite tree is the birch.. it's so similar to the poplar but you can use its bark for so many things. :D

Fav tree time! It's a close call between some of them for me, but I might have to go with the Rainbow Eucalyptus just because of how funky the trunks are...
Seriously, check out more pictures of them! They're very interesting!
My favorite tree is the Chestnut Tree. I remember those moments when I was younger when we went out looking for Chestnuts. We used them to create little spiders.
I love chestnut trees and maple trees, though I am allergic to birch trees
on mobile so not able to post pic but I just adore the flowering ( ornamental ) cherry tree, the delicate flowers that are shades of pink and white
Turns out most of my favorites aren't trees, whoops XD
I did find one though, the Japanese Maple
The picture

We're trying to get one started in our yard. They're just such beautiful trees. I just want to get one growing and then have a picnic under it.

I ADORE birch... this tree is highly beautiful, delicate and melancholic... the leaves of birches are like green mist <3

My favourite is the Willow - it's just so pretty.

Oh I love this one... So my Favorite Tree has to be a Willow Tree. My grandmother had one in the back of her house I can remember going into the back when we went to visit and sitting by the tree and read a book. They can tell a story when its windy just stare at a willow tree and Its like in the Disney movie the tree speaks to you lol I SWEAR I AM NOT CRAZY lol I just love nature

My favorite tree right now is probably the manchineel. Every part of the tree is not only toxic to ingest but actively harmful to touch by humans, due to the fact that the sap contains phorbol and skin irritants. Standing under the tree when it's raining can cause burns on the skin, because sap and toxins get into the water from the leaves and bark before falling on you. Rain filtered through the branches has even been known to damage paint on cars! Burning the wood of the tree can cause eye injuries if the smoke gets in your eyes, and the fruit is sweet and pleasant to taste but causes (typically non-fatal) throat swelling and burning immediately after.
However. Despite all this, the manchineel is ecologically important, with the roots stabilizing beach sand and preventing erosion and the tree itself acting as a windbreak for other plants. The potent cocktail of toxins, many still unidentified, present in every part of the tree is harmful to many animals, but the black iguana can safely eat the fruit and even sometimes lives in the branches. The Kalina people traditionally use poisons derived from the tree in their arrows, and the wood of the tree is used by Caribbean carpenters, although it's always carefully dried first to evaporate out the toxic sap. Parts of the tree are even used in medicinal ways, once processed!
So to me, the machineel is not only a fascinatingly extreme example of the ways plants use biological warfare to stake out territory and protect themselves, it's an example of the way such a plant is still a vital part of an ecosystem, and the way human ingenuity adapts. Not only that, it's beautiful!
I've included some pictures!

My favorite tree is definitely the oak. I love how big and almost regal they are and how they look when their branches grow like the ones in the picture.
It's closely followed by the birch and the Japanese cherry tree though ^_^
That tree is freakin gorgeous like I didn't even know that existed in our world.
My favorite is probably the redwood.
