: NEWS ... the good, the bad, and the dangerous!
The good: Thanks to some very generous co-operation by Subeta's programmer Bug, we now have the ability to update user shop prices much, much faster. We had been updating prices at the rate of 120 items per hour; we've increased that rate by a factor of a hundred. (We may have to tweak it up or down a bit over the next few days depending on server load on their end or ours!)
What this means, is that when someone checks SubetaLodge for user shop prices, those prices have been updated within the last 24 hours.
The bad: The old, slower script also checked for things like spelling changes in item descriptions and changes in rarity (so if we missed, for example, that an item had retired, the cron would update that information for us.) The new script doesn't do that for us.
I've kept the old script on standby -- my goal is to rework it so that it still checks for item changes, but no longer updates the price database, but something else takes priority over that:
The dangerous: The price history database that generates the nice graphs of how an item's price has changed over time wasn't designed to handle this much data -- the price history graphs are going to be a little messed up for a few days until I figure out a workaround for that.
Thank you so much for working with Bug to get this addressed! I can't believe how fast they are going to update now! It is awesome! Thanks in advance for working on the links left behind. I hope you and Bug established a good working relationship and you feel now like you can go to him for stuff, too. NOT THAT I MIND DOING IT.
Sorry, didn't mean to yell
: Bug and I get along okay. But, uh, he's kind of the only one. I mean, I've made a real stink of myself on here a few times. ;)
Well, you really are a stinker :p But I love you anyway❤️
Thank you all for your patience and well wishes. I'm back now!
The straw that broke the camel's back
I was going to get back to things yesterday, but when I tried to write this down, my stress levels started rising again, so I took another day.
On Monday morning my guy and I were rudely woken by cops breaking down our front door. Apparently they'd received a 911 call from our house that was a hangup. When they arrived, to darkness and no response (we were sleeping of course) they broke the door and charged in.
I think they screwed up the address. Over the years we've lived here we've occasionally gotten stuff intended for Appletree Street (we're Apple Street), so the more I thought about it, the more convinced I've gotten that the call must have originated from that other place.
Anyhow, I'd had plans to run some errands on Monday, and that got totally derailed. My guy spent the day fixing the door. With all the other stress issues going on, I was just overwhelmed with that one added thing. I don't really want to talk about it anymore, I just wanted to let you all know what happened.

I want to say welcome back but I also want to say are you sure you took enough time? Just because the last straw has been taken care of doesn't mean you can't still give yourself a break. Before you break. It is okay to let go until some of the other stress is resolved! Happy to have you, always. But want you take care of yourself!!
That is crazy! I can't imagine waking up to that! It was weird enough when the cops came knocking on my door for a wellness check cause the neighbor hadn't seen me in a while but at least I was awake!
Did you suggest they go check the other address?
I'm fine. Routine is good :).
No, I didn't suggest it, didn't think of it until much later. LOL not at my best when I'm rudely awakened. Not to mention that I sleep in the nude and just wanted them gone.

That sounds awful, but I'm glad things are starting to get back to normal for you hugs
: Ugh. That's frightening and traumatic. I'm very sorry. :(
how long should it take for a new item to have a price posted to it?
: Should be within 24 hours, but something's not working right ... I'm looking into it now.
That is what I thought thanks for taking a look
: Testing a fix now, but I'm optimistic.
(and anyone else interested):
The price update is cycling the way it's supposed to now. The price history page is also updated. Now that we're getting new data every day instead of every three weeks, it shows two graphs: one for the last seven days (*), and one for the past 12 months.
(*) The 'last seven days' graph shows a couple of older dates, but these will rotate out very soon as new data comes in.
You are wonderful! Thank you thank you thank you!~
I saw that someone asked this question in the SubetaLodge forums:
We have the ability to expand wardrobe tagging to all items and not just face-layer items. (I posted an idea about this over a year ago, but we decided to hold off because Subeta staff was promising to separate out all the head-layer items REALLY TRULY VERY SOON.)
Unless someone has information that this really is going to happen soon, I don't think we should wait on Subeta any longer. Here's what I'm thinking:
(1) Add a whole bunch of possible tags to the database (they don't have to be just the ones I suggested).
(2) Allow tagging of all wearables, not just hair.
(3) Create a user role that has the power to edit tags but not all the other powers of an IA, and open that role up to volunteers, and let them tag items. That'll let the item tags be a crowdsourced project and not create a whole lot of new extra work for us.
Love the idea, ! Less work for us is nice ;)
I also think its time to get it done. I agree with the idea of tagging volunteers, but I think we need to look over the tags you've already mentioned and add or remove them before the volunteers start. And they shouldn't be able to add tags, unless they come back to us and give a good case for adding one.

I think that's a fantastic idea.
And I agree with - we should have control over all the tags used overall and make some examples to clarify for folks. We should also decide if we're going to move on to tagging CWs as well since we don't at the moment (and we need to clarify the face tags I think).
