Oh noooo D: I really hope neo doesn't go down. I don't play it much anymore, but I did spent hundreds of real $$$ on my account T_T
Don't panic. Neo isn't going anywhere. Jumpstart wouldn't have spent however much they spent on it (I'm sure it was not a small number) if they were just going to give up and shut it down after a year.
Honestly, as much as I love the members of TNT that we've all come to love over all these years, and as sad as it is that so many talented programmers etc have lost their jobs... the site hasn't worked properly for a long time. The base code of the site is the same stuff they've been using since the beginning, it's ridiculously outdated. This might be a good change. Maybe the site will actually work. I don't visit much these days but when I do I'd like it to not take twenty years just to load my inventory, you know? And I don't think those guys will have much trouble finding new work.
I don't think they'll be shutting neopets down, and I think it's crazy that I'm seeing SO many people quitting, especially on the charter boards. Considering they just released Ghoul Catchers, I don't see them shutting Neo down.
Are people actually quitting? That's ridiculous. looks at charter boards ...Wow. Way to panic needlessly, guys.
Good points! They probably have something awesome planned. Hopefully it will be more relaxed and geared toward adult players, too!

Isn't Jumpstart primarily focused on kids' games, though? So probably not. But who knows. I'll be interested to see how it all plays out.
I thought I read somewhere that JS also did adult games? Maybe I read wrong. Ah well. I'm pretty much over Neo now and on Subeta for good, so this is all academic to me! :)

They are! It's very sad. I had no idea what was going on until I looked at Charter. There were a few people on the PC who were as well, but honestly it seemed much worse on Charter. It's just mass hysteria. I'd think those people would have a little more sense lol.
- I saw that on JN yesterday, and I have to say I'm not surprised. Neo has been laggy and poorly run for a while now, so maybe some new programmers will help. IDK... - I'm not on charter, but I'd heard a lot of people were quitting, giving away their things, adopting out pets. It seems too soon for that, IMHO. - I'm interested to see how it plays out, too. I'm glad I didn't buy any new neocash.
Wow.
Well, I don't think Neo is shutting down, so I'm not sure why people are quitting. The new app is a good idea from a business perspective (should have been done years ago IMHO), so hopefully that will do well and we will see more "Neopets Mobile." I will not be at all sad if the NC mall goes away. Having to pay for boxes in order to move NC items around was a load of BS.
I hope that Neo isn't shutting down! JN is helping spread the hysteria because all of the comments from mods there make it sound hopeless as all main longstanding staff are now gone. But if people keep quitting and JS losses that sources of revenue the end will be near. There is so much that could be done to make Neo a better site from simply being more transparent about what is going on to being able to have all your pets on one account. I have paid for a premium account so I am not going anywhere until they make me (at the moment). I do think that we don't know enough yet, JS could simply be replacing the whole team with new people because of the lag and other unsolved problems. I am interested to see if the news updates today.
In any event, I am more glad than ever to be a part of this site!
It's WAY too soon to be quitting and giving away your pets and items. This just happened on FRIDAY, no one's given them a chance to do actually anything. I still have like 2700 unused NC on my main, I had to redeem a $25 card for like, one thing lol.
Yeah, a little more communication on their end would be helpful, but that's never the way Neo has rolled... which really, I don't understand. Especially something of this magnitude. This is the internet. They had to have known the news would get out (and really, did JN actually have permission to post that?) and they had to have known people would panic. I'm sure they have a PR person or something who was like, you know the users are going to flip their shit, right?
I am not sure why JS did not make this public after it happened. Maybe there was no one left to update the news once they let most people go? Or staffers were told not to tell so panic would not ensue? The worst thought is they are just going to let the site die so there is no need to keep players. But there was no hope of this not getting out. I don't believe JN had permission to post the information, or that they should have worded it the way they did. In further comments it seemed they wanted to keep their employee contact secret to protect that employee. They could have tried to be more encouraging but I think mods are just being honest about their opinion - that Neo is most likely done and therefore they need to warn people.
Yeah, JN worded that very poorly. But I don't think it's as cut and dried as that. I don't think JS would just up and quit when they've just released that mobile app that gives you NP as prizes. I'm sure they paid... who the hell did JS buy it from anyway? was it Nickelodeon/MTV? well, regardless, I'm sure they paid them a hefty sum for the site and wouldn't let their investment just go down the tubes. I think they gave the former staff a window of time to fix the site, and when it didn't happen, they were forced to let them go.
What time does the new usually come out? Like 7pm Neo time? I'm so curious if there'll be any news today, and what they'll say...
I agree. There's no point in doing so lol. Far too many people are jumping the gun. They need to calm down and wait for Jumpstart to make an announcement. I highly doubt they'll take Neo down.
The release of the app is certainly promising, and something many looked forward to. I like it, but I have not gotten the neopoints it says I won. I cannot imagine Neo is losing JS so much money they would just abandon the whole thing this soon. And yeah, it was Nickelodeon/MTV/Viacom, so it must have been a sizable purchase. Not what Viacom spent on it in the first place, but not something to simply try and then discard. I can see how new staff might be warranted after the months of lag and the failure to find the missing KQ files, although I do feel for them.
News usually updates around 6-7 NST these days.
Hmm, do you think we'd need to do anything with our accounts? I don't play any more, just log in every now and then to check everything is where it's meant to be lol, but I would hate to see my accounts gone :C
EDIT: Whoops, did not see this whole other page of people talking about it, sorry 'bout that!
JS released a statment because of people asking so much on social media: To our Neopets Members and Community:
Unfortunately, a recent restructuring of our resources means a number of respected employees working on Neopets are no longer with the company. JumpStart appreciates each and every one of our employees, and it was a sad day to have to say goodbye to our friends. While it's disheartening to see team members leaving the company, we are incredibly thankful for everything they have done to create Neopets.com and the passionate community that surrounds the site.
Moving forward, we want to make it absolutely and unequivocally clear that we are committed to Neopets! Neopets is NOT CLOSING in any way. To the contrary, we plan to produce new content, update the site, and dedicate valuable resources towards improving site functionality, including lag and site stability. In fact, the recent launch of Neopets Ghoul Catchers on the iTunes and Facebook platforms confirms our dedication to launching new and exciting content for existing and new Neopets users.
As we move forward and establish new goals for Neopets, we want the community to know that we are fully committed to the success of Neopets. We will work to support, improve and expand Neopets with our best resources and most creative minds. We thank you for your unwavering support of Neopets and we believe you will be as excited about the future as we are.
We wish all of the amazing former Neopets team members the very best life has to offer and we are grateful for their time at Jumpstart.
Somehow that posted twice in a row, which I didn't think was possible. Sorry!
-Interesting. I guess Jumpstart decided they needed to address the situation head-on, which is good. Maybe they can fix the awful lag, which is the main reason I rarely play anymore. That, and I can't get my wardrobe to open half the time.
