The Swampie has gotten a revamp, and hopes to win a place in your home. It is also now available in Marsh.

blob minions! i have blob puppy!
its cool im trying to get to the marsh but for some reason i keep geting loged off i cant even adopt a new pet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!sorry i dont got a avatar yet i tryiing to get one.peace out my fishy,
sort of liked swampies before...
simply loved the galactic one and wanted Kouhai to be one (too bad it came out a day after i colored Kouhai already... had to wait for the next chance... wich i missed second times due to problems of the site
)
like the new art... though something is wrong in my eyes. the frot fin looks a little weird attached. but more important the point where belly changes into tail... it's too stiff for the neck being bend so proudly.
in the end it makes me not liking the revamp. :/ my eyes always wander to that part.
I likess
It looks beautiful. With all these awesome makeovers, I'll have to get pet slots soon!
P.s. Me avatar is awesome thanks whoever made it that means minon match weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW LooK At The Eyes They SOOO CUTE!
Is there anyway to know which species will change in the near future? Obviously you can't predict what may change in the future, but us there a list you could put on the site somewhere, the forums perhaps, of species and/or colors that are actually in the process of being re-done? I think that would take away the shock factor and also keep people from changing a pet one day and coming on to see that their brand new potion they bought was for nothing. You don't even have to allow debate. Just a heads up would be helpful.
Oh I like. ![]()
I'm not to fond of the tail, but the rest of it is very nice. Good job artists! X3
Nestly: (( And wow, pardon me for typing your name wrong there. Dx ))
Nestly: Wow... it just, amazes me how hard the staff tries (especially Debiless here) to explain and listen to the users here, though stuborn and selfish sounding they seem. (I use the word 'selfish' because the art is better. The revamps are better. And just because you're not used to it, doesn't mean an entire community is going to change it just for you. The nicer art makes the site as a whole look much more appealing. I just don't know why practically ALL the comments here are whiners.)
The staff are staff for a reason. They decide how something ends up, and it's remarkable just how much they do consider everyone's comments and points. I wish all sites were like that.
And to Debilee... no offence but you're really going in circles with these answers. You've explained the best you can and despite being considerably reasonable, some people just don't want to listen until they get their way. Yar. 8| ...I'ma stop budding in now. needs to mind her own beezwax
And, sophiten, I believe that the artists have said that, in some cases, the Galactics had been used as sort of previews to potential revamps. There is nothing unfair about it, it is simply a more efficient use of time. See? There you go assuming things with no basis again. No, I didn't say the same for the Dragon, and wouldn't have, actually. But I do know that there were multiple requests for wings. I was never discussing that particular revamp, as, quite honestly, I'm not sure how a poll on that one would have gone. But on this revamp, which is the actual topic, it is quite clear that this version would have won. People are actually changing their pets into Swampies now; that was practically unheard of before. And, yes, some people do love some of the pets as they are; I have one particular one that I'm that way about myself. But I know that the good of the art on the site as a whole overrides my personal preferences, so I can't expect it not to change. In all honesty, I can't think of any other site on which the users get as much input as they do on this one. We have a solid Art Department that does amazing work, all I'm saying is give them a vote of confidence every now and again, as well as not taking time away that could be much better spent on other site issues to do something that isn't really a necessity.
Excitement, I'm sorry, but you clearly have no concept of what is actually going on. First off, a revamp of a pet is quite a long process; these have been worked on for quite some time now. Second, the site isn't really down, there are now 500+ users on again at peak points. Third, we have hardly not been hearing complaining. Also, everyone has said I would have liked to have had a vote... I would have voted yes. Which shows it would have won a poll. Setting up polls for every revamp just wastes time that really can be better spent elsewhere at the moment; there are things on the site that need to be done, rather than a redundant poll that, regardless of what anyone is saying, would have come out with this version as the clear winner, most likely by a fairly large majority. And therein lies the problem, users wanting something unnecessary done just for the sake of having "a sense of power". As has been said over and over, the users do have a say, just not necessarily in poll form. The artists do read the forums and take note of comments and suggestions, which is one of the reasons that the Swampie was revamped in the first place, it has been requested over and over.
I'm tired of hearing 'it would have been voted for, so why bother?'. Why bother? Because how can you be sure? I'm sure you would have said the same for the Dragon, and look how much people hate the wings and the loss of whiskers. It's a whole new type of pet.
It's just frustrating that some pets are polled when others aren't. It's not fair. There are people on the site that love each and every pet as they are. They got them because of how they looked. How rude is it to assume they'd love any change just because staff does. They should get in their opinion before its released, that way if its minor changes they can be done BEFORE it's released so EVERYONE can be happy.
It doesn't seem like much to ask.
I'm starting to agree with everyone else on here whos saying stuff about us not having an opinion. From my view it looks like you guys tried to do all these revamps while the site happened to be down so you wouldn't have to deal with users complaining. I'm not saying thats true, but it sure does look like it.
Bleh, I wish we could have voted on this. I would have voted yes for this, but it would give users a sense of power and like they had a say.
Quote:
; border: 1px solid ; font-family: georgia; font-size: 10;">also users don't necessarily know where Subeta style is heading, while the artists/art directors can see all versions of all pets being worked on by the artists and see which need revamped in what way to be consistent. This particular pet has been consistently requested to be revamped.
I would comment on that but, eh..nvm...i think I would be going to far.
I LOVE the new chibi swampie... Endearing is gonna get changed... XD
I like it, but....the-the eyebrows !!
Please excuse the typos. desperately needs a new keyboard but keeps forgetting to actually buy one XD
SlainBySpike, if the old versions were "perfectly fine", then they would not be changed. Yes, that has been suggested before, but it would defeat the purpose of the revamps if something were available to revert pets to the old inconsistent or... artistically challenged, in some cases (read: Unibrow Swampie XD) versions.
Sophiten, that is exactly the problem. People have somehow come to believe that poll News comments are free-for-all critiquing grounds. This was never the intent of the polls; a poll is merely a device used to judge which of two (or more) things is preferred. Which is exactly the point; this version would have been chosen over the previous version, hence no poll required. I also cannot comprehend how people seem to think that everything on the site shoulf just sit on idle because the site has a few issues, when there were just under 500 peopl on earlier today. My point is that this revamp could be added now, because no poll was necessary, so users who were unable to get on and vote would not present a problem. Polls were always used only when deemed necessary, and never for every species revamp.
Love the new swampie!!! wish the dragon didn't change though...
i really like all the revamps you have been doing ^.^ revamp the ruffie

Was there this much fuss over the lack of polls before the dragon? :/ I think we should just have polls for what staff is undecided on and what turns out to be a major change (such as the torrent and the dragon).
If that's the case, the it seems as if the users opinions really don't matter. Shouldn't we get a say in all cases, not just one staff can't seem to decide on? We're the ones the pets are for, not just staff.
I think it's been said repeatedly that polls are used when staff is undecided on a particular revamp and needs an extra set of opinions to sway them in one direction or another. Being that we're not always undecided, polls are not always necessary.
SlainBySpike, I think that would be impractical as some people prefer a specific color over others as well, and the staff may as well just make new pets that looks like old ones under that basis. And then we'd have fifty thousand different elixirs, many of which would go to old, unupdated art. That's not fun, especially if you have a potion/elixir gallery.
o.o So the Dragon was under appreciated? ;_; What's wrong with people? That was a great pet before.
459 online June 13, 2007
To the people saying that a lot of people still cant access the site, I think thats being over used as an excuse now, 450+ is quite usual in my opinion, so nothing can now have the lack of online people card thrown at it.
I really like this new Swampie compared to the old one. But I agree with a bunch of people who are against the revamps. Not saying the revamps are all bad or anything, but I think it would be really great if there could be a middle ground. Okay, Subeta team and all the people who just love the revamps... get them. Now, as for all those people who are die-hard fans of the old and perfectly fine versions of the pets... Couldn't you make them a potion/elixir that could be purchased by anyone to transform them back to their old selves? Of course, the potion should be fairly common and not too expensive, because that would just fuel comments like "Well, I get to have my beloved pet back, but I have to pay an arm and a leg for it!" I don't know. Just an idea. Don't know if anyone else has suggested this, either.
The point is not that it WOULD have won in a poll (and how would you know that, really?), but the fact that we would have had a choice. In all honesty, I would have voted yes for this one, but I still would have critiqued the tail. I hate the tail, even though the art is a big improvement over the old swampie. Also, why DID you put this up when you know so many people haven't been able to access the site? You brought it up yourself, seems ridiculous to do these kinds of things when there are so many problems. Item adds and pet revamps are no where near the same. But, back to my point, polls should be used for ALL, not just for the ones you think need it. It's not fair to give it to some and not others when there ARE people out there that LOVE species you think are unloved.
... Keith is right. NO ONE seemed to like the swampie (Except me -waves Swampie flag- xD). Majority of the people want it gone, forget about just a revamp. And while the poll thing is good, think about it. A ton of people who have voted yes to the change, so why is everyone complaining? Because you didn't get to vote? Is this really the place for that?
But while we have people joining on the swampie front... When is my tee shirt going to be made wearable? xD
I still think the tail is weird. And the more I look, the less I like the back spikes. I DO like the face though. I think it's cute.
We care about what the users think - And we usually poll species.
The species we don't are so under appreciated that we don't put it up.
i loved the chibi swampie BEFORE the revamp.
I'm going to change it now though.
I really REALLY don't like it. I liked how round and "young" it looked before. I'm not fond of all the spikes.... ![]()
Opinions are still being considered; there is a board for suggesting which pets need revamps, which is checked by the art staff. Also, there is the Bragging and Complaining board as well. I never said that user opinions don't matter, only that polls on each and every revamp are totally unnecessary and superfluous, especially on this particular species of pet, where this version would very clearly have won, even just judging by the comments alone. Polls generally just end up being a mass of complaints and very little actual constructive criticism, not to mention actual attacks on the artists and their abilitites, which I, for one, quite frankly am extremely tired of. Keith hires the art staff; I trust their abilities. Also, the comments on revamps almost always involve people saying opposite things about the same aspect of a drawing. It is the job of the art staff to decide which best suits the pet and Subeta style overall. The problem is that, since polls were done on revamps where there actually was more than one possible option (sometimes more than one artist used to tackle the same pet before the more practical solution of the artists mainly drawing the types of pets that they happen to excel at was implemented), users started to demand polls on every single revamp being considered, even individual items, not just pets! There were never polls on every single pet revamp; that was never the point, nor the intention of polls, they were merely a tool used when input was requested, if options were available. User opinions matter, just not necessarily in a poll form at all times. Noir, I think you misunderstood me. I meant that there were people critiquing anatomical points who clearly had no real understanding of anatomy. I meant that those criticisms were invalid, not the opinions on a more general level. Haha, now that amused me! I've noticed a few complaints recently concerning how kelpie is in no position to judge Subeta art, since she's not an actual artist. Thank you very much for also validating her. But an art critic (by the way, I'm not sure I believe your 90% of art critics can't draw theory, as the ones that I know were actually artists prior to becoming critics, one for many years quite successfully as a matter of fact, although I'm quite sure that some can't, I just question that 90% figure) wouldn't criticize anatomy with no concept of how it actually is and works. And... some art critics ARE in the wrong profession, from some of what I've seen... but that's neither here nor there. My point was merely that every single revamp doesn't require the unnecessary time and effort of setting up a poll. Also, had this one been polled, then there would have been an OMG that's so unfair when some users can't even access the site outcry. And if you think that our art department all draws the same then clearly you haven't been paying attention. I said stylistically match the overall Subeta style in shading, lineart, etc., but the pets still reflect the individuality of the artists. Noir, in your case especially, I think you can tell the difference readily between say... Arbor art and Rah art. Our artists most definitely do not all draw the same.
i do like the swampie much, i think it looks a LOT better. but what im not liking is the fact that we cant vote. i agree with Noir and Angelembryo completely. voting gave us the feeling that our opinions mattered and that we could decide/suggest on the revamps and feel a lot happier with it. with everything being revamped without our say, its really getting on my nerves, and im sure others feel the same way. theres more of a chance that people wont cause a whole riot because they dont like the revamp if there were polls, you know? now the Chai and the Swampie, beautiful. but the Dragon and the Dragarth, as everyone says, they arent what we expected (seriously, no disrespect)
Of the past four revamps (Dragarth, Dragon, Chai and Swampie) I have been extremely happy with two and disappointed with two. I like the Chai and Swampie, I think even with polls they would win by a vast majority.
I think Dragon would still win the poll, but my a smaller amount, same with Dragarth. Thing is, has a pet ever 'lost' in a poll?
I still hate swampies but this one is like .00001 % better. What are the point of having them? They're really ugly and I don't get how some of you like it! EWWWWWWWWWWW
Agreed, angelembryo.
I agree with Noir 100%. It's not necessarily about the polls themselves; it's about what they represented. Namely, the notion that user opinions mattered and steered the growth of the site. But when everything starts to look the same because everyone on art staff seems to think the same, and art staff is a VERY tiny percentage of the user base... how is that positive evolution? Difference of opinion is what causes things to change for the better. Who was it that said "I never learned anything in my life from a man who agreed with me"?
Maybe with these last few unpopular revamps, any polls still would've ended in a majority "yes" vote (I doubt that, but speaking hypothetically here). But that's not the entire point of polls. Polls gave users a chance to critique revamps and see changes made where necessary before the final release. Polls gave ALL users, not just the ones who frequent the SB and IRC and suggestion forums, a chance to participate. Look how much critique the Torrent, Demi, and Escalade polls received, and how different their revamps turned out, even though the "yes" votes were winning. And look how much happier people were with those final versions than they have been with the Dragon, Dragarth, etc.
NARLY!!!
I think the Swampie looks awesome. A vast improvement, I think. Great job Aqua! ![]()
Oh dear! Ribeiro turned into a Swampie!
YAY!!
i love the new swampie!

I think the anatomy and everything is quite fine; I just dislike the revamps in general. They're being made to look "cool" and I'm not into that.
And I'd adopt them out because they wouldn't suit the name anymore. I make pets based off my characters, and if I have a pet who is nothing like my character but named after my character, it's stupid. I go by what suits the pet's look; I don't go and choose names I just like and assign them to random pets.
I don't want to complain, anyway, so you guys don't have to reply to anything I say. I'm not going to get a swampie, chai, dragon, etc. so whatever. xD
I don't like the spikes.
This one is an improvement in ways, and I like the look of it. I'm not exactly sure about if it changed but I think I might have prefered the old Chibi Swampie, but otherwise i like the change.
If I had to put my money on it I'd say umm... Serpenths basic colours could do with revamps, if they ain't already in the planning ![]()
I am actually enjoying this revamp, though the eyes bug me, the way the white part (whatever it is called) is like.. maroon. Also the right eye (furest away) seems at a wrong angle though it may just be me XD Also i think its a bit odd that the highlight on its side is right above the shadow and touching it (as many of the other highlights are but this one sticks out). I can't wait to see some of the colour revamps for the swampie!
When I first saw this update I went "EW!" but after taking some time to look at it... I don't know what to think... The long outstretched tail seems wrong to me... I liked it more when the tail was curled under. Especially with it's head raised like that. With the tail the way it is, I feel that the head should've been downwards, turning towards the user for that would definitely look like a more realistic pose.
As for it's spikes... Eh, I think it makes the Swampie look like a reptilian version of Sonic the Hedgehog but I don't necessarily hate 'em either.
The only other thing that's bugging me is the tail. It's plain, and boring. Maybe you should add some spikes down it's tail to make it look more crocodilian and or fins to make it more aquatic? :/
As for us not getting a chance to vote on this... This is becoming a trend that I really dislike. One of the first reasons why I prefered Subeta over else where, is because they actually gave a damn about our opinions and actually gave users a say about what happened with the pets.
Oh and Debilee, I have to disagree with you on the whole anatomy thing. Sure, most of these kids don't know how to properly draw someone's head or their body for that matter but that doesn't mean their opinions are any less valid than those that do.
Take a look at art critics. I guarantee you that 9/10 of them can't draw a stick figure but they get paid to judge art, what's it worth, etc. And people listen to these critics. Now according to you, they're in the wrong profession and shouldn't have any opinion at all. :/
It doesn't take an artist to decide what looks good or not. And besides, when you have an art department who all draws the same and has the same idea of what looks good, it defeats the purpose, don't you think?
I love the new swampie too! It seems to have more of a personality attached to it, like the other pets do. It also looks more like a graceful sea dragon rather then a pudgy ocean dinosaur. ![]()
Love the revamp but it looks a bit TOO spiky. Not much change though and I love the pose. Still I'm glad Monoko is galactic.
