Get Your Brew On: Voting!

Submissions for the Get Your Brew On contest are officially closed but voting is open for all!

Almost 300 submissions will show up anonymously. This is to keep the contest from becoming a popularity contest. That means you should not post or give hints on the forums or anywhere else on which submission is yours during voting. Your idea should speak for itself. ;)

Voting will be closing at 11:59pm on September 28th. You can vote for 5 microbrews.

Remember to judge based on what kind of drink is most appealing to you. Don't just go for the best image, take the time to read all the descriptions and everything else provided!

There were some really great submissions! I actually enjoyed reading peoples logo descriptions, and I hope this way of doing contests works well so we can do it again.

Could we have a (moderated) discussion topic for these either with the caveat of not discussing your own work. If no mods are willing to take it on, can we keep the submissions archived and open the topic after voting is closed? It's a real shame to not be able to comment about the work.

You guys should just open a brewery shop and sell all of them... There were too many I wanted to vote for, getting this down to five was hard.

Meh, mine didn't even make it. Someone had a very similar name to my entry, and the description is much better than mine. I suck at creative writing anyway. XD

It's nice to know the voting page randomizes the order of the entries every time the page is opened, because, based on the nature of people and the comments here, few people are going to go past the first few rows of entries.

Good luck to the entrants! :D

You may want to reannounce voting and let people know that one or more of their choices may have been removed due to copyright infringement so people can add another vote (or two).

I didn't realize anything had been pulled and was going to check again just to be sure I didn't want to change any vote when I saw that suddenly I'd only voted for 4 of 5 instead of the 5 of 5 I knew I'd done =/

I too, noticed that quite a few of the images I saw certainly were not images that the entrant had created themselves. Some were google images, and people had just slapped their logo on it. What I find strange is how entries like that even made it onto the site at all. They might have looked really beautiful, but sorry, if the artwork isn't your own (or if it's not a free-to-share image) then entries like that are most certainly not getting my vote. I would rather give votes to entries that have been created by the owner. Sure, they might not be as pretty to look at, but at least it's their original work. That being said, good luck to the entrants. :)

I can understand Subeta being cautious and pulling entries found to have heavily used google images or otherwise copywrite materials. Copywrite law is one great big massive grey area and it varies from country to country. What might be acceptable in one area could be a total no-go in another. They're protecting themselves and their users from potential backlash. That said, if someone were to create an entry that utilized stock photography (that had been obtained from either a free site or had been paid for) then I feel the entry should be permitted to stay. Perhaps, allow the artist to provide a link to the stock site they obtained the image from?

Maybe in the future Subeta could provide a small packet of stock photos for contestants to use? I'm thinking mockups of various beer bottles. Also, perhaps have two categories? One for written and one for illustrated?

In either case the contest was interesting, I'd like to see more like this in the future.

I'd just like to say that Google is a search engine that aggregates peoples' work. A "Google image" is a just a link to a digital picture that someone created. If you are taking this, putting your name on it, and submitting it for a contest, that's stealing.

You'd think at least the CW crowd would understand art theft and copyright at this point.

Digital graphics and photos belong to real people. They don't just magically appear from the Great Google Wizard. A person put work and effort into creating something that you're trying to claim as your own. It sucks that image-less entries will be overlooked, but I thought it was great that Subeta gave non-artists an opportunity to participate without needing to commission others.

Not sure why basically "NO STEALING, COPYING, OR OTHERWISE CHEATING" has to be delineated as its own rule?

Slightly sad I didn't have time to enter my idea, but without a picture it would just get lost in the sea of descriptions anyway. >_< Maybe pages next time, or filtering the entries down a little?

Making a rule for myself to stick to the Subeta related ones so that's weeding a few out, but I am loving that there are so many ideas that are really relevant to this world rather than RL!

Voted. Granted it took a lot of skimming over titles and descriptions to find and finalize my top four (fifth vote was for my own entry).

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. Voting is not set in stone and can be done one at a time until all five votes are in if need be. Find a brew you like? Good, vote for it. Refresh. Repeat. It's not that difficult. The only thing that takes the most time is reading through each entry. If the title or descriptions aren't flattering move on to the next one. Voting will end in nearly a week (five days from now). There is more than enough time to vote.

Alright after reading through about 100 brews, I am genuinely tired of reading :c There should be like, a rule of thumb that for contests with more than 100 entries, pages be assigned where you have a ratio of one vote per page or something (so for this contest [let's round it to 300 for simplicity] 30 pages or 10, or 10 pages of 30 would be a lot nicer to get through and you'd end up with either 30 votes or 10 votes respectively.) Gives everybody a little more room in choosing and you don't feel so overwhelmed. Back to my reading now ;o;

Hmmm... after this I really want to see a similar contest but for all drinks rather than just brews. (I'm not a beer fan, cider is ok) Perhaps it could be split up a bit though, like one group of just wine to vote on with winners, one group of mixed drinks with it's own winners, etc.?

I actually loved getting to see the whole lot of submissions :D

Anyway, I liked the imparciality. Sometimes these types of contests are just a popularity contest. I just hope people aren't asking for votes like they did asked support on Peka-Boo, with random gifts and random comments.

We could wait 2 or 3 days to staff pick the best ones and then select the top 50 so we could vote, some brews are very lacky on description/concept. 300 is a lot to read, very time taking x_x just read 100-ish, everytime I stopped in one I liked, I refreshed the page (and voted for mine, too lol).

Wow! There were a lot of great items. I actually read them all. Boy, I need a life hangs head I ended up with over 20 that I would have liked and had to narrow it down. I was really hoping I was the only one with my particular theme/genre but it seems that I wasn't. There really are some popular ideas it would seem lol

I understand why google images would be removed in a normal contest. But in this one, it specifically said that our images wouldn't be used, that it would be drawn by staff, so any images are just references/mock-ups, not what's expected to be used for the official item.

I don't understand the whole google image thing. I assume when I see people do that and if you read their description, it shows how they similarly want something. Not exactly like the image but gives a better understanding of what they are going for. Eh.

But I am with others, I didn't read ones with long descriptions. It took long enough to go through them just looking at items titles and shorter descriptions. Should have been another way to vote then all on my page.

I know you guys did some prescreening but there are some that still are copyright infringement/ images taken straight from google Also I was wondering what the policy for incorporating google images to make their own was because there are quite a few of those as well.

Holy amounts of entries.

Honestly, I can't stand huge descriptions on things so I skipped all those, no matter how pretty of a picture you have, if your item description takes up my screen when I'm going to hover on your cider/beer/etc., nope.

Picked 4 so far... quite a few others that I'm going to have to weigh for a bit for a 5th, wouldn't have minded being able to choose 10.... you really need to quit doing that to us when there are like.. a billion (give or take a few) entries.

To whoever did the cellardoor, you just made my day. I love you, you beautiful person.

In all honesty, I won't read every 300ish descriptions, like many others :/

I'm one of those who'd look at the drawings/icons, and vote based off that rather than sitting down for the next two hours with a pen and paper to note down which entries I thought were the most coherent/creative overall.

I understand that you want to give everyone else a chance, but you need to be pretty dedicated to read all this. Even in the case of cw or HA contests, it was easier because all you needed to do was browse through images. A little filtering would be great next time!

With this many entries, maybe a different voting system would be better next time.

For example, maybe we could flip through the entries and rate each one 1-10 points. Perhaps there could be a meter that tells you how much you have done. That way we could rate all of them without reading 300 at once, and we could do it over the course of a few days. If they came up in a random order for each user, each entry would still be seen the same amount of times even if a user doesn't rate all of them. Then the overall points for each entry could be used to determine the top five.

I don't know. Just another system that doesn't require reading all of them at once, and remembering each one of them long enough to narrow it down to the top 5.
