I like the body of the new one, but the head of the old one! (I really hate the head of the new one)

uhm, I dunno... I've always loved the current Darkonite, the new version looks too... cuddly...? it just doesn't have the general menace and surly look that the original has. I agree that it needs a revamp, but this one does't really match up with the other versions of the Darkonite, like the Angelic, Bloodred, etc...

It really needs that grimy look that the old version has. Dark spots on the legs, cracks in the skull, crooked whiskers, the scowl and menacing look in the eyes. I think the artwork of the new one is an improvement, but it needs those characteristics to make it look like a darkonite.

I've never liked the Darkonite but the new revamp is too much of a change. In my opinion the Darkonite is meant to be hideous and not cute. I'd suggest keeping the scowl and crooked whiskers.

While the new one is really pretty artworkwise, I still prefer the old one. I admire the new eyes, but I am not a fan of paws, tails and that strange smile. And the missing whiskers. :<

Definitely the old one! The Darkonite is one of my favorites, and this new one just doesn't quite have the same oomph. My biggest concern is that with his narrow body and big head, and his pose, he really looks off balance. The old Darkonite looked a bit like a muscular pit bull (my favorite dogs!) with a good stocky build. The new one is way too thin and chibi, so that he looks like a scrawny puppy.

I took another look and I'm still convinced it looks far too canine. Whilst I like the style of the redraw, and can sort-of-sacrifice the scar and the patters for which, I'm horribly disappointed by the fact Darkonite seems to have transformed into a puppy :/

Oh and it might be my monitor but its really bright you might wanna lift a little of the shadow in the red of the eye because its hard to see where the pupil is. Shading on red can be a booger but I imagine this problem wouldnt be a big deal on any other colors.

This is a gorgeous revamp!

Couple tiny things I had to actually blow this up in photoshop to even figure out;

  1. Probably outta remove that crease/line on the right (our right) leg where the uh inside of the elbow I guess you could call it. Just doesnt need to be there I think.
  2. Trim the mass on the right (once again our right) horn mostly the area beneath it and just a tiny bit of its length, its drawing my attention when I squint my eyes and shouldn't take up as much positive space

Other than that I think its gold, if youre feeling really ballsy maybe play with the weight by rotating the (our right) leg. I was doing that earlier but I couldn't come up with anything useful of it haha

New one lacks the cuteness that contrasted its evilness so nicely.

Really, the Darkonite is the nicest drawn pet you have. Every other species needs your attention more.

For consistency's sake, I voted for the new one. It IS better, truthfully. Better anatomy, better shading...And it is more consistent with the more recent colour updates.

I just find myself wondering why the whiskers and scar had to change?

The expression doesn't bother me, though I suppose it could look grumpier? The fact of the matter is that its other colours have set a more sneaky personality for it. The smile suits that.

The new one looks a bit too sonic-like to me for some reason. I would love to see a revamp, but this one looks a bit too happy and doesn't have the 'angry/dark' attitude a Darkonite should have.

I adore the revamp did :D

Voting old. The anatomy of the new one is flawed in ways I can't explain.

I have to say, I am in awe of how many comments have been posted in response to this update!

I agree with the majority of what is being said, however. In a quick summary, I feel that the revamp looks excellent, but fails to translate the attitude and essence of the original. A change of expression is necessary to achieve this, as well as altering its spikes and stance. Again, most of what I feel has already been posted, so that's all I'd like to throw in. c:

Thank you so much for providing us with revamps and alterations, and especially for including us in the process. As always, excellent work!

Whoa...a happy smile, shrunken spikes, missing whiskers and neatened markings. All you need to do is take away the bit of brain you'll have converted one of the most gloriously manky-looking pets into a standard, 'cute' Subeta pet. No, thank you...

Character aside, I think the art is also a bit off. The face is really odd - the shine on its right eye not only makes it appear to bulge out but covers up the pupil too, and the nose is very low on the snout. A combination of splayed back legs and tip-toeing front legs make the pose look unstable. The shading is confused, with shadows on the side of the face, but highlights on the side of the backleg and tail.

I'm really sorry to the artist, but I don't think the new one is very good! All that expression from the original is gone, and the pose is awkward- the face is small and too happy, the feet to close together- I would love a revamp on the Darkonite because I loooooove them and they are rather old, but I don't think this is the one to use.

It's nice that the art for a redo, but I'm concerned that the new version is missing a lot of the character that was present in the old. The expression and cleaner features make the new version look like any other pet, whereas the old darkonite was very unique (and more distinctly Subeta).

Thought I posted here last night, but guess I didn't hit "send". Here we have another example of nice art, shiny and new. Nothing I can pick at in the art itself. But the pet has undergone yet another personality-ectomy. First you take a spiritual-looking pet (the Reborn Sheeta) and make it look pissed-off and ready for war. Then you take a mischevious, smart-assed-looking pet (the Fester) and make it look pissed-off and ready for war. Now you take a pet that's supposed to look disgruntled and deformed and give it clean lines and a damned SMILE! Arrrgh. That's all I have to say.

I love the coloring on the new one and the cloven hoof but I just feel that do much of the original is lost. The big red eyed. The curvier spines, the way it's looking directly at you. Those are all things that contribute to my vote for the original darkonite.

I've been dreading this revamp for a long while, but I must say it's not looking all that bad! The darkonite has been one of my most favorite pets since I first joined Subeta, and I think it's fair to say this revamp does it justice. My only concerns are that I would really like to see the crinkled whiskers added back in, and to make the blackish markings on the feet darker like they are in the original. It also looks like the new one doesn't have the light colored stripe that goes over the right eye. Some people have mentioned the pose/body looking weird, but I actually rather like it. I mean, the darkonite is a really strange mishmash of animals, making it looks a little oddly proportioned actually looks good in this case, haha.

the thing that bugs me most about the potential revamp is the expression; it's too friendly. it doesn't capture the old one's dark, grim look.

I'm going to agree with a lot of people here. I like the art style better for the new one. The shading looks much better and I like the way the underbelly looks more natural here, as well as the one back foot we can see. I think the smirk is kind of cute but the other facial expression on the old one works as well. I don't like that the nose on the new one looks more round, making it look kind of childish which is not the look you guys were going for, I'm sure. The pose is also kind of stiff and unnatural, so I'm not a fan of that. But I don't have a Darkonite. You guys rock. Thanks for keeping in touch with your users. :D

The new one looks buff. That's not necessary a bad thing, but I'm really not used to seeing muscular subeta pets.

I love everything about the new but the eyes and the smile. I don't think it should be smiling, personally. I'm just so used to its old attitude of being grumpy but in a loveable way. And the eyes just seem to blend a little too much into the fur. IMO, I would lighten the eyes either to the old version's red eye color or just lighten them and then tune down the smile. If a smile had to be there, then maybe just a grimace as opposed to a smile?

I'm very disappointed also. Don't get me wrong, the new version is great, but if we had the choice to which art we wanted to show when people look at our pet on it's profile or something, I would choose the original.

The new design is really quite poor. The proportions, the anatomy, the colors, the shading, the expression, everything seems ... off. It went from an original and interesting looking creature and transformed into another one of those "generic canine with a few minor embellishments" pets that populate the 45000 sites out there. Also dislike the removal of the whiskers and some of it's patterns, makes it look way too plain and smooth, more like a cartoon but without the style of the original. And it really shouldn't be smiling, it looks way too friendly and cutesy. A shame, Darkonite was one of my favorites. It's odd, I usually like the revamps but this one is pretty unbearable.

Also- the spikes on its ears have been moved to the back of its head for some reason. I'm not sure if it's just that the two side by side makes them look weird, but they look a little out of place. Either move them back onto the ear or get rid of them, maybe?

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by gangsta

The bone-like appendages need to be longer and thicker. The ones around its neck in the old version actually almost look like they're protruding, which is pretty awesome. Other than that, yeah, the eyes should probably be a lot bigger like in the old art. And that smirk has.. gotta go. The new Darkonite looks sort of 'snarky' as opposed to the old demented feline labrat.

I really really really, don't like this new design, the only thing on it that is ok are the eyes and the definition on the back feet. The heads misshapen and weird, its to cutesy and to skinny.

It just isn't true to the original design..

THE EYES NEED TO BE FIXED. THE PUPILS ARE NEARLY INVISIBLE AND THE BLACK EYES REALLY MADE THEM STAND OUT. IF THE EYES WERE MORE DEFINED LIKE BEFORE I WOULD SAY THIS REVAMP IS WONDERFUL.

This is really the only revamp that I prefer the old version of. I like how the face of the older version looked. It looked more... um, well I don't want to say "evil", but more 'up to no good'. The newer one is just too cutesy looking. Now it's got a happy looking face like the other pets. Which is fine for other pets, but I feel that the new face doesn't match the personality of the Darkonite.

And the head also seems to be too small, like someone else mentioned. But that's just my tastes, maybe. I get that the anatomy may have been more correct in the newer one... I'm not sure? But it's not really supposed to be completely accurate because this is a fictional creature. If that makes any sense. Sorry for the ramble. I just hope there are some things tweaked on the new one. I really hope the old version stays though. :(

I do like the art, though! I just think the older version is more fitting.

body is fine, but the head seems too small and too pushed into the body, When I saw the comment on the muzzle I had to check and I think it looks a bit big and off...

Overall, I like the new one better, though there are a few things about the old one that I prefer. I like the expression of the old style and would love to see something more like that incorporated into the new face. Also, I loved the dark red on the legs of the old one. The difference doesn't stand out nearly as much on the new one. I think, the new image just doesn't convey the "darkness" that I love about the darknonite. An awesome job on the artwork though. Definitely meets the standards I've come to expect from Subeta. :D

I never liked the darkonite and its old pose looks outdated and unattractive (this is my point of view and I know most prefer it), it did need a revamp and I prefer the new one. Though I agree that it should have bigger irises and a darker look rather than a smirk. The anatomy looks a lot better than the old one as it looked very stubby and unrealistic. Other than that, great work!

Yah know, the paws on the Darkonite always reminded me of clawless bear paws. I think I'd be missing those if they were replaced by big squishy kitty paws.

Even though I voted for the new one, I believe that it can be done MUCH MUCH better than that. The "new" image presented gives a completely different impression of the Darkonite. The eyes are super strange, and the head cap (?) looks much too tight on it's head. Front legs are .. off.

I agree with you that we need an updated Darkonite. I would just love to see that it looks more like the old one.

I like the new one's design and art, however, I would suggest the irises be a little bigger and the expression, instead of that smirk, have it be a lot more like the old one.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Blashyrkh

A few things I dislike about the new one:

  • The irises are too small. You can hardly tell they're red.
  • The big one: The smile. It doesn't look right on the Darkonite. I just don't like the smile. I was pretty content with a neutral expression like in the original design.
  • I like the whiskers from the old one.
  • It's head looks a little too small for its body.

Otherwise, I like the detail & I like the coloring. But those are the only things I don't like, with the smile being the biggest one. Well, that & the iris being too small, but mostly the smile.

I voted for the old version. Along with most of what has already been said the head looks too small to me and the face gives it a sly/slick look that seems at odds with the character of the old version.
