Everyone, herself said the whiskers would be coming back and she accidentally left them off :| I think that's a point everyone can quit arguing about - they're coming back.
I like the new tail positioning and the new feet - but I think the two spikes on the back should be beige instead of dark.

I really like the proportions used in the Glacier Darkonite best, this proposed revamp looks awkward for the reasons others have said. Also I really don't like the hooves being spread out so far, it looks like it's bearing a lot of weight or something.

Noticed some more things: nose is too round, it's missing whiskers, the front legs are rigid while the back legs are more relaxed, in fact I don't really like the front end at all, but the back end is an improvement.
I like the darker looking old version much better. And the eyes, the beautiful large red eyes, cannot go
The front paws look odd, the flames should be more visible, the eyes look almost entirely black/make the pupils bigger, the spikes on the side of the face should be bigger, and why the hell is it smiling?
They take away the fester's smirk and give the darkonite one? Its great art, an improvement, def. I just liked the feel of the old one.
I really do like the detail on the new version, but I must say that I miss the huge eyes, it was one of the things that I really loved about the species... so, if I was going to say anything should be changed that is where my vote would go. I can kind of see how people are thrown by the addition of a smile rather than the unhappy/disinterested look on the old version, but the new smile is so mischievous looking that I think it is actually pretty awesome.

Looking at the eye shapes, what might help without totally fixing the nose (as the old one does have a pretty round snout) is raising the end of the skull plate higher to match the old one. That it appears to go right down to the crease of the nose makes it appear even chubbier. If you made that end with a little space between the eyes that should alleviate some of that feel, as well as increase the pointed-upward direction of the eyes to give it a sharp look. ^_^ Then you culd pull the eye up and increase pupil size to get a better match for the original.
Well, I looked it over, and I gotta say, the New is better than the Old. Now, there's nothing wrong is the Old version; I'm just not looking at it the way everyone else is looking at it. My look at it is more like a Cold Case flashback; what the Darkonite USED to look like: young, cocky, cool, say ten or so years before Subeta, if you will. Honestly, it's as if you pitted a teenager against a grandparent. And, everyone respects their elders you know, but I ramble.
Anyway, agree or disagree; but, I see this as more of a step BACK, then a step UP. And, if the New version comes out, it's mine. ^_^
The problem with straying from the old design so much (removing the whiskers, the scar, and changing the spikes) is that all of the new art, the art that is amazing and up to date, FITS the old design. If you change the design as a while, then you will have to go back and change all the perfectly fine art of the darkonite that does not need changing. Allot of unnecessary work on all the artists. Make updates match please.
I'd like any new version to look more like the current graveyard Darkonite... cause I LOVE that one, and it looks better than both the old version and the new version IMHO.
Things I don't like: The roundness of the top of the head & snout How much the sock markings have been lightened/toned down (including the replacement of the underbelly, that is now grey.)
Apart from that, I love it. And this is coming from someone who considers the darkonite as their favourite species, has two and plans on getting one or two more. So, I feel this revamp is very relevant to me. xD
The older one should be replaced but the new one doesn't look as evil and I prefer the eyes on the old one. I do like everything else about the new one though.
I prefer the old one. ^^; I like the thickness the old had, and the fact that it didn't smile. I also think it needs the whiskers, and the eyes should stand out more. that'd my opinion though :3 The new one does look great, but compared to the old one, I really do prefer the old. It's more visually appealing, especially as a pet.
I voted for the "old" Darkonite. It's not that the new artwork is bad, it is not. It is about the way we think of the darkonite. A Darkonite should not smile, it changes the entire pet from a dark one to one that almost seems smirky. Also the new eyes are less foreboding, which again takes away from the dark side of the Darkonite.

I've never been a fan of Darkonites - the "evil" look is not really my thing. But I do agree a lot with what people are saying and I am SO PROUD of my fellow Subetans for actually observing and politely critiquing the DETAILS of the artwork. I jumped for the lovely new quality before really thinking about it, so I apologize to those of you who are true Darkonite fans. (._.);;
I hope a new revamp appears later that pleases everyone! (Too bad I was not as fortunate about the Feli - I STILL miss the old Feli artwork. ;c)
i actually kind of like the short/wideness of the old one better. the depth of the old eyes, how they kind of cave in and look so dark and serious. the bigger skull crack/more showing brain, hair not jumping out, but casually popping out, the darker coloured pattern around the bottom of the legs, that really adds some variation in the just red. tales wide fatness. his stubby button nose, whiskers, larger neck thing. the eyes being less sharp, like the old ones. ... i really like the old one's basic everything.
now! i must say, i absolutely love how detailed the new two tails are. oh my jesus! the end of it! beautiful! perfect! .. the guy is super great looking! but.. i just like the feel and concept from the old one better. not to say it couldn't use some updating, just not changes? and again! the new one is still great! just not the concept i prefer for this guy, sorry.

I would adopt that, like, yesterday. I think it'd be really interesting to see how the re-vamps effect the old poses as far as fancy colors go, because I'm soon going to adopt/make a glade one, and I love the glade pose now.
Honestly, I really don't think this pet needed to be updated. The old version is completely fine, - just add more details and shading layers to the old one and that will do if you wanted to revamp it.
The eyes were my favorite part of the darkonite, with the new one they seem so much more... Dark and subtle? I can barely see them with all that glare, too. I would like the new one otherwise...

This is a revamp which strikes really, really close to home for me. I liked the revamp of the Bloodred Darkonite from a few months ago, and so I kept Memnoch as a Bloodred Darkonite, which he's been for... pretty much as long as I've been around. I honestly can't imagine him as ANYTHING else.
I like Cylum's suggested changes to this more than the revamp itself.

Eyes, need to be fixed. Tails are PERFECT. YOU SHOULDN'T BE SMILING (It throws it way off) It looks thinner... Horns need to be redone... Spiky things look too soft and 'safety-sissor'-like.
Old is much better. The new one is better quality (and is good art) , but the shape of the head, the spikes, the expression and the shape of the muzzle is just way too off. I would much much rather stick to the old
I admit, I voted for the old one.
The stance of it looks like it was interrupted in the middle of doing something naughty, while the new one seems very posed and stiff. I love the shading and the general sleekness of the new one, but it's really missing a lot of the personality and the...I'm failing at words tonight...the prankish, badass, 'haha, I'm so much better than you~' attitude that the old one has. It's very cheerful, which doesn't seem to fit the overall design in my opinion. More emphasis on the facial spikes and reducing the smile into either a much more subtle smirk or a 'what are YOU lookin' at?' I think would suit it a bit better :)
Just...No...Oh god... Yes, the art style of the new one is really good and everything, I have nothing to say about that. But it just lost all of its personality. It should have the same expression as the old one (frown). The spikes it has on its head, I believe they're supposed to be on its near the cheeks. New one looks like it has them on its neck. It also needs that eye scar...and the whiskers. It's one of my favorite pets, and...ugh, I just dislike this very much.
The new one looks nice, but something about the eyes is a bit off. I feel I'm being drawn to look at the white reflection on them more than the red irises, and I do think it should be the other way around.
Definitely needed a makeover! The new one looks nice, but I agree with the comments about the irises. They're too small and don't stand out very well.
Also, I think the positioning of the spikes on the OLD Darkonite's head are better. I always found them to be a memorable part of the pet's design, and it's sad to see them less prominent in the new version. I barely noticed them at first.

Hey everyone! Just posting here real quick to let everybody know -- I actually totally forgot the whiskers when I was doing this, and nobody noticed, haha. So those aren't actually going anywhere -- they'll be in the final version for sure!
Also, I will be going back over this to make adjustments, that's what polling is for :) So rest assured that this will definitely still be tweaked! Keep providing your feedback, it's great to hear what everyone thinks!

The Darkonite is one of my favorite pets on Subeta, despite the fact that I no longer have one (it is also one of the few pets that I love almost every single color of). That said, overall, this revamp is an improvement. I like that the chest doesn't look pushed inward anymore, for example. However... The whiskers are gone, as are the marking over its eye and the darker coloration on the legs (and underbelly) has been lightened so much that it isn't nearly as noticeable. Those are pretty easy fixes, though, right? The spikes could be a bit larger, too. They're not what bother me the most, though.
While very well drawn, the muzzle and mouth bug me to no end; Darkonites have never been ones to smile. I don't think that should start now (except with the special colors, I suppose). Please, give it a neutral expression, at the very least. Secondly, the muzzle seems much to rounded... like it's just a big ball. While the Darkonite is not definitively a dog and I don't mean to imply that it should, perhaps the artist could try making the top of the snout a bit flatter, rather than poofy and rounded? Other than this, the only thing that looks of are the front legs. Unfortunately, I can't seem to form a way to describe what I mean; the upper leg around the chest area looks off somehow. I apologize that this is not a very descriptive crit. ;-; Either way, I hope the artist will consider altering the snout at the very least. These are just my opinions, though. Thanks to whoever drew this for being willing to listen to the input of the members. =3
I really do like the look of the new one - some things though:
The markings aren't very visible on the new one - they blend into the main body color too much. Making them a tad darker would help differentiate them better.
It'd be great if the tails thinned out more towards the arrow-tips, to really accentuate those arrow tips.
The cheek spikes are really tiny, and hard to see. I almost thought they were included for a moment.
The body could be a tad bit longer, I think, as the new one looks a bit scrunchy right now.
Otherwise, good job. :)
I don't usually speak up but seeing as this is one of my favorite pets, I am quite lacking in fondness for the revamp. While the anatomy and drawing style has clearly improved, there are many things that look wonky. As people have pointed out, the face is strange, especially the smirk to the side looking off. One other thing that bugs me is the eye color. I prefer the contrast in the red to black of the old one as the newer eyes just appear to be quite dull. Also, either by familiarity or otherwise I'm quite fonder of the chubbier/squarer appearance rather than something lean as well as the coloring on the legs and hooves (though I prefer the new hoof design). The muzzle also seems far too round and high for my tastes. Perhaps this is all just a matter of personal preference but while I usually vote for the revamps, this just isn't cutting it for me. My apologies but good luck with the designs.

The old version fits the name better. It's more dark than the new version. It also seems smaller and looks more cartoonish than the old version. I also like that the old version is looking at you.
