omg yesssss steve erwin with spino!!!!! spinos are rlly cool, i think its pretty interesting that we dont rlly know what they looked like, so every few years paleontologists change what they think they (the spinos) looked like!

i like to think that they looked like crocs but more bipedal lol

i heard that recently theres debate going over how aquatic their semi-aquatic lifestyle was- i like to think that spinos spent 3/4th of their time in the water while baryonyx was more land based- hence why theyre related but evolved differently (i could be wrong tho, im just speculating)

Spinos are a good pick!!!!

The velociraptor was my favorite when I was little, and it kinda still is- I just like raptors in general- but I know Jurassic Park made 'em look bigger than they actually are. They're still cool, though.

Honestly? Now that I really think about it, I like the quetzalcoatlus. It's huge. Also, I played as one a lot in Dinosaur Simulator, and that might have me a little biased towards it...

👀 dinosaur simulator??? that sounds interesting!!!

quetzalcoatlus is pretty cool, its interesting to see something so large and living able to fly- kinda reminds me of how some guys built the worlds largest plane (the spruce goose) to prove something that big could fly just because they could (or at least thats my very summarized understanding of why the built it lol)

Jurassic park and world did scale up their raptors- theyre more the size of Utah raptors than they are actual velociraptors; i will say that according to actual paleontologists, the first 3 Jurassic parks were more dino accurate than the later 3 (now 4) Jurassic worlds were- even with the raptor size discrepancy lol

Wait, the first 3 were more accurate? Really? Given the time, I kinda expected them to stretch the truth for coolness points, and recently try to be accurate because people have been picky about that these days. Then again, the Big Bad of the newer films is always a hybrid dino that's smarter than it should be + sometimes has some extra sci fi ability.

And yeah, Dinosaur Simulator is a roblox game, made by chickenengineer. It's an OLD one, too. Started out years ago, all blocky and simplistic, but... these days, the models look really good.

oooo ill have to check out that game!!!

according to a video i watched on youtube where a paleontologist went over all the Jurassic park/world movies, apparently the first trio were more accurate- of course, we still dont know how Spinosaurus actually looked and posited ideas for Spinosaurus' appearance come out every few years, but yea. the first 3 were pretty 'canon' accurate, according to at least one paleontologist. i remember one of the things he was annoyed by in the first Jurassic world movie was that one of the flying dinos that picked up and carried zara off wasnt supposed to either have as many teeth as it did or it was supposed to have more teeth.

theres also the fact that Compsognathus (known as compys in camp cretaceous) arent actually as small as they were in the series- the only reason why they were so small is because the only fossilized specimen that is in paleontologists grasps is the fossil of a juvenile; we have no clue how big they can get, apparently. and the movie directors went 'we'll take compys and make them a pack hunters and THATS how big they are when theyre full grown', which i think is pretty funny but still a pretty interesting factoid.

the tldr cuz i know i yap alot; the first 3 were more accurate, the newest 3 (going on 4) are more audience 'wowing' i guess; either way i highly enjoy the series

I didn't know the spinosaurus's appearance is debated that much. That's kinda cool!

And man, all this time, I thought compys were tiny little things. We've only found a juvenile fossil??

yea! paleontologists can tell because the compy fossils growth plates arent fully,,, extended? if that makes sense. dinos had growth plates like we humans do! also, in the case of t rex, teenage t rexs were confirmed to have acne like we do! they also put on smth like over 400lbs a week during their teenage years until full grown, they had a very drastic puberty lol

i believe the first time paleontologists found a spino fossil, it was,,, i think it was just part of its spine? throughout the years, more has been found but no totally clear appearance has been established- though certain aspects of said appearance have stabilized out in the past 20 years- Spinosaurus is a semiaquatic dino that seemingly mostly eats fish but can eat other land based mammals- some paleontologists have posited that spinos likely couldnt open their mouth as wide as they could in the Jurassic park movies due to them being mainly fish eaters

i think i mentioned it somewhere in this thread a while ago but theres controversy with paleontologists as to exactly how semi aquatic spinos were lol

sorry, kinda got carried away talking about dinos lol; ill yap on and on if not stopped; ill try to attach an image of the evolution of spinos appearances below this, but im rlly new to scode so,,, we'll see if it works ;v;;

It's cool that they could tell that about the growth plates! Just learned about those in anatomy class. Also it's kinda crazy that anything could grow that quick... That's a lot.

So, early interpretations of a spino looked kinda like a bipedal dimetrodon? Technically not a dino, I know, but... I kinda fell in love with those things as a kid- Anyway, the head looks more... rex-ish, early on. Looks like they must've found an actual spino skull some time after 1990.

yea! they probably found the skull sometime a bit before 2001 (when the 3rd jurassic park came out, that heavily featured what spino we think of when we think of spinos) , its pretty crazy how interpretations have changed through the last century or so

My favorite has always been the pachycephalosaurus.

When I was a kid, I used to charge at things and headbutt them while pretending to be one. Mostly soft furnishings, but I did headbutt people sometimes. :'D

I also like dimorphodons. Which aren't technically dinosaurs, but they're close enough that I think it's okay to mention. I love their big heads on their little bodies, they seem so awkward.

I loooove dinosaurs. I just don't know how to choose a favorite, bahaha.

When I was younger, it was the velociraptor. I still like them. But I also really like the spinosaurus, baryonyx, allosaurus and parasaurolophus.

...I could keep naming them LOL. This is making me want to play Paleo Pines.
