Hey everyone!
I know you've been waiting for this one for a little while -- I wanted to make sure we didn't implement this the way we did before, with a bunch of messy if/else statements cattered throughout the code. You know, the brittle stuff like "if you have this very specific itemid, then make the page react this way." That approach was a nightmare to maintain!
Instead, I've built out a comprehensive effects system that will power all of our future account-wide buffs and effects. This new foundation means we can easily add new types of effects without breaking existing code.
Right now, the first effects available are the discount cards. If you have any discount cards in your inventory, head over to the Effects page to turn them in.
This system is designed to support many more effect types in the future:
The foundation is solid and extensible, so expect to see more exciting effects rolling out soon. Let me know what you think and if you run into any issues!

Ooh, interesting! I like that we won't have to store them in our inventories anymore, and that it opens up potential new buffs.
I have a couple of questions:
They will no longer be in your inventory, so they'll no longer work on the legacy site. The idea with getting this (and the restocking changes in the other thread) out is to hopefully get those legacy shops closed sooner rather than later ;)

Well, seeing as I use the legacy site more than kumos atm (only use kumos for the quests, and the rare occasions that there are threads like this to read). So, for now I will keep my card in my inventory XD
Also, the mention of the legacy shops closing is a scary thing to me. Really not a fan of how restocking works here since there is not a chance that I will ever use those shops except for when I'm questing. And if the legacy shops close before the legacy quests go away I'll probably stop questing because I will have to skip way too many quests with the kumos shop system... And kumos quests seem to be a long way away from being able to be more profitable than the legacy ones so that feels to be a long way away from completion (since you keep saying that the goal is for the kumos quests to be more profitable, which they are not. They give less than half of the rewards, in sP, as the legacy ones do)
This sounds like a good system for future effects. Personally I'm not too happy to see something I paid a lot of money for not working anymore on the legacy side though.
The information that the discount card is not available anymore on legacy Subeta once consumed on Kumos should be stated more clearly and visibly in your post, . That you won't get it back doesn't automatically imply that it won't work on Legacy anymore at all.
I shall keep my discount card in my inventory for now so it will still work on the legacy site because many of the NPC shops aren't working on the Kumos site yet. I have just checked and they still have no stock in them.
Making this permanent, having the turn-in remove an expensive, previously-resellable item, and having it not work on the legacy site are certainly interesting choices. As others have mentioned none of kumos works well enough to incentivize me to switch over. Interesting idea, though.
once the kumos shops are patched up and improved, this is seriously an EXCITING feature ngl! It not only saves Lock space for other, more desired items (and maybe things some people like to lock for sentimental reasons!), but it also opens up a world of possibilities in the future! I think with this implementation rolling, we could be seeing a shop fix up soon too. AAAA hype :D

I don't like the overpriced Kumos shops at all, so I'll be keeping my card in legacy until I'm forced to move. Then I'll reconsider the time I spend here.

What should I consume?
I agree with most everything people have said above. As of today, the NPC shops are no longer searchable, while shop search also still doesn't work (only legacy frame mode). Absolute no go for effectivity or usability.
Aggravating: even bigger problems with layout/scaling since yesterday (?), while the old problem with overlapping, not functioning menu drop down and item drop downs still persists.
Plus the site is mega slow, sometimes irresponsive. Though I expect Kumos to later get on more server space and this will become better once really live. For the time being doing 50 quests on legacy last hardly longer than the few Kumos ones.
Uhhhh well this sucks, I guess I should have read the whole post because I didn't know the discount card wouldn't work on the legacy site anymore. I don't use Kumos except to look at these site updates..... I feel like an idiot
Legacy shops closing scares me because RSing here on Kumos is awful.

Thank you for the update! Moving away from the legacy site is scary, but I know Subeta has a bright future and Kumos is what was built to ensure that!
just popping in to say something in the framework here me and on mobile I have to rotate my phone to landscape mode to read any of these posts. it doesn't let me even try to shrink down the page to see anything, the sizing is stuck.
I am sure this is unintentional but it makes kumos completely unusable for me.
I think this part could use rethinking

Since discount cards are a rare, permanent, sellable item, it could make more sense to have it be reversible - create a way to turn the buff off and retrieve the item.
This would have the additional effect of making testing easier as more users would be willing to try it out, so you'd get more feedback and usage.
Are we supposed to have cards already? I don't have any. even if I did, I still prefer using Legacy site because of the quests, the layout etc. I just hope that my sp from legacy will already be on here? am I understanding correctly?
I don't know how to edit a post, but moving from legacy to Kumos isn't great right now. kumos doesn't work as well, the questing is limited and gives less payout and prizes as legacy (I'm tired of getting the same prizes and turning in the same items on Kunos quests), the shops are more expensive, you can only buy one of whatever item for quests (depending on the item) and the layout and sizing is awful on mobile. kumos doesn't not feel like the nostalgic legacy site.
