After a year, I've managed to earn 250m... which I'd like to use to help upgrade Poukie's set.
Just turned t7 AP: 71
I'm looking for good investments. Right now for battle quests, I can sometimes beat up to 20 (inclusive). My biggest challenge is blocking large damage icons. For example, I'd like to beat Mama Mush 75 times but would need a strong ice blocker that lasts several rounds or other strategies? Right now I've beat her only 31 times.
I think scrolls would be a good place to improve.
Right now I use most often (one of each):
and once in a while:
I have some weaker ones that I don't equip.
Are there some good freezing scrolls I should get?
I know is highly recommended. It's a once per battle, would it be good to get 2 of these?
My current battle set:
attack with chance of freezing
Freezer
blaster
bomb, semi frag
defence, semi frag
heals without taking healer spot
Stealer spot
heals, attacks, defends
Some other interesting weapons I have: t7 weapon
another blaster
t6 weapon
t7 weapon
I'm thinking of trying to obtain:
Are there better/cheaper things I should aim for?
It took a year to get the sp so I won't be able to buy more items. I'm trying to figure out what's best, any suggestions? Anyone is welcome to comment. I've read guides, I've tried my best but I'm just a medium battler so I'm not sure what's good in the long run. I don't want to regret reaching t8 or higher thinking I wish I didn't get X because something at this tear is much more effective and costs less. I should have waited or I should have gotten something sooner... I'm just not sure.
Friendly ping:
Honestly, I don't always feel comfortable giving set advice for lower tiers because I didn't really know what I was doing back then (I still feel like I don't know what I'm doing sometimes), and I can be terrible judging for myself what to spend sP on and prioritizing.
Friendly ping to , I hope you don't mind. I know you've given me some decent set advice in the past, this is a friend of mine who could use some better help than what I can likely offer myself. ;~;
Squishy hug, thanks for the referral. I figured if you didn't know you'd know who to contact :D Ya know me, bit shy to ask outside the group but once in a while I do try to venture out ;) By the way, Bug checked & says Dark Dice is working like it should... so I'm just having rotten luck :P
Soma Tablets first, then 2 GoTF, then save for RoTL
[tp=thesovereign] :dmg🔥 [tot=thesovereign] :dmg🔥 [egg=thesovereign]
Paramesian Buttwing Bomber Paramesian Recycle Beast

I would definitely go for Soma Tablets and Reviver of the Lion.
If you need strong ice blocking, I would recommend buying more Cobalt Eternals. Sierrac Basal Ice Flail ice a decent ice blocker that scales with your pet's speed, but you won't be able to use it until T8. I would also recommend buying a Panzer Hydra Blade because it is a super cheap T7 weapon and scales with your pet until T9.
I'm not sure how helpful Gift of the Forj will be because it takes up 15 AP and you'll only be able to use about half of its healing capability right now. It is a great scroll to have in the future, though. Shriek of Despair Scroll may also be something you want to consider.
Thanks for the feedback :) I have a few questions:
Are Soma Tablets really worth getting? I already have two blasters (Recycle & Blackmoon Hand) yet only use one. Does it make a huge difference or at this point nice to have a third for another type of attack technique? I'm not sure if I'd know how to use effectively, erm still learning :)
Shriek of Despair Scroll, is it worth waiting till I can get on my own? I'm currently trying to get Mama Mush Tattered Scroll Piece to make Cold Blast Scroll; however, I'm nowhere near 75 wins for now.
Sierrac Basal Ice Flail is speed-based instead of tier-based (although requires t8) I've chosen to no up my speed so it won't be a good weapon.
What about combined with if I read correctly Ignitious would give 50 ice def if both are equipped or used at same time I'm not sure...
I'm not very good at giving set advice. I've been battling so long that I have all of the pretty toys :P I think the best thing you could invest in for now and long term is a few Shriek of Despair Scrolls. I almost never use my soma tab. At t7 I usually use Arrow Harpoon and Reborn Icewand of Doom(t6 weapon).
Thanks for your input, squishy hug :) I know Poukie won't be as good as yours, but as long as we can hold our own in events it's satisfying for me ;)
Whether Soma is worth getting is a personal preference. For me, it's worth every single bit of sP I've spent and I would recommend it to anyone. The difference between Soma and Blachmoon blaster is that the former turns the enemy's weapon into an infinite use junk weapon while the latter turns the opponent's weapon into a single use junk weapon, which means the effect is temporary instead of permanent. In other words, if you use Soma instead of Blackmoons Blaster, you'll increase significantly the chance to nullify 50% of the opponent's weapons and therefore reduce 50% damage for a random turn.for the rest of the fight, as opposed to Blackmoons Blaster.
I'd also recommend Reviver of the Lion. I've got a GotF but never use it, and have managed fine without it, but again it's a matter of personal preference, I imagine.
I've managed without a Shriek until I was gifted one by a kind battler when my pet was T11, so I think you can do without it until you can earn one for yourself this Morostide (which is so far away that it should allow you ample time to advance to mid-T10, which is the point where you can safely get 10 wins for a chance at a Shriek. Before that, I just equip lots of Perilous Whirlpool. Some other weapons that also come with a chance to freeze include the Deep Sea Shadowglen Anchor, Rapier of Error or Sierrac Basal Ice Flail which you can make some use of at the next or next two tiers.
I have been trying to tailor my set depending on my opponents, so I really don't have a fixed set that I use for a certain tier anymore, but for staples I'd recommend: or another 100% freezer would still find its use in certain fights, perhaps even as you advance to higher tiers.
For shileds I'd recommend the over the other breakable forj shield. The breastplate does come with a chance of not blocking anything at all, but it should last you longer and hence prove more useful than the forj shield. As for the blessing, crystals can make up for that which is lacking in the breastplate.
When you move to T8, you can try swapping out the Breastplate for which offers more reliable blocking (though fewer icons, but still).
I'd also recommend Panzer Hydra Blade and Replica Minotaur Knocker if the price for the latter hasn't rocketed through the roof (I've been absent from battling for quite a couple months and might be out of touch with recent weapons' prices). However it depends on your opponents really, since I can often beat opponents with weapons that on other occasions and to other people might appear unimpressive performance- and price-wise.
ETA: I'd recommend holding off on saving for a Deluxe Death Shard. At t8 you'll find the to be a much better freezer with more attack and two mod slots (and blocking water which is a more common icon for BQ opponents from level 20 to 25).
How are you? Thank you so much for the ping ^^ I haven't been feeling well lately so haven't been on Subeta as frequently or for as long, but I'm still around and hoping to catch up on the new NPC challengers :D
Wow, thank you so much for the great and detailed advice! I hadn't heard of the scientist specs before, but definitely worth the wait till t8. My Gorgun will do till then, although is it worth getting since I have waiting for me at t9 already.
The Soma makes sense over the Blackmoons... that's why I thought it was broken and then just stopped using it. The recycle blaster is similar to soma although doesn't do a blessing. Do you find it makes a big difference?
I'm definitely thinking of getting Reviver of the Lion, it does take up a weapon slot but it's better than my current ruffie bones. That's why I'm also leaning towards the GotF scroll since it's easier to use scrolls... but maybe just 1 instead of 2? Poukie has a lot of strength but is low in her other stats and gets pummeled if she can't outlast in long tank fights. I'm having issues with mama mush at the moment... need 75 wins and only have 31.
I actually have that breastplate, I just haven't been using it eh he he. I will have to try and see how it fairs ^^
Replica Minotaur Knocker, it's similar to bat wing. Will it make a big difference?
By the way, I hope you feel better or manage to be stable. I've been dealing with my own challenges and understand how challenging it can be when health isn't cooperating. It means a lot you've taken the time to have helped, squishy hug.
Shriek of despair are so overpriced right now. I would only pay like 20-35mil for them. Someone bought them up right before morostide and the price never really recovered.

- for what it's worth (and I'm definitely not the best one to give set advice) here's what I think.
A quick note to start. You mentioned holding your own in events as your motivation. But that's sort of two different things. The first is to be able to defeat challengers geared for your tier (or even those intended for a slightly higher tier pet). The second is to do well in boss battles. This requires a totally different battle set and strategy since the priority is not to win but to get the most possible damage. In general your battle set will have pluses and weaknesses and may need to be tweaked for a given challenger or event. For example, I can easily get through the first 20 levels of Battle Quests, but then need to change my battle set (sometimes just a little, and sometimes a lot) for each challenger after that. I can consistently get to Level 25 - but I couldn't do it with only a single set of weapons. In my experience, as soon as you start tackling challengers who are beatable but hard, you need to start customizing your battle set for the challenger you're fighting. If you're willing to wait until you have enough stats to make a challenger easier, then any reasonable battle set will do and it doesn't matter so much. That's why some battlers choose which expensive weapon to buy by what challenger they are currently trying to defeat. If you go for a longer term outlook, then it can take longer to meet your short term goals (like beating Mama Mush 75 times). Also it has been my observation that large icon blocks below Tier 10 are generally both rare and expensive. If you are looking longterm, there are almost always better options available at higher tiers, so it's sort of your choice as to whether you want to spend now or wait - more a matter of philosophy and personal preference.
First of all, you're in pretty good shape for scrolls right now - especially since you already have Aftershocks which is an excellent infinite healing scroll. I will say that Gift of the Forj is a big help to me in my battles - overhealing (healing more than your max health) can be very helpful at times, but GoTF is probably not your first priority here.
Secondly, with both Phoenix Quill and UltimaPlus Tag you're in fairly good shape for healing right now. I personally wouldn't bother with Reviver of the Lion yet since I have found the tag to be a reasonable substitute and there are so many other choices that might add more to your abilities if you are going to spend that much sP.
Third, Batwing blade stops scaling at Tier 5, so that a good infinite use percent healing weapon is something you're going to need soon. (Broodmother Talon has a nice heal, but an unreliable attack. I'm not really experienced enough to know for sure, but I'm guessing it won't really fill the slot effectively.) At the current price of 300K sP I would immediately grab a Panzer Hydra Blade. It has a 7% heal, and a reasonable attack at your tier, will scale as you grow and doesn't take the healer slot. This is a real steal right now. And might just do the trick for a bit. Reborn Icewand of Doom can be another temporary help here. It's a Genetech Combo and will cost you 22.5 million sP. You will eventually outgrow its attack but it has a 10% heal and a chance to freeze which would make it a good combination with your Frost Thorn. Especially if you add the Panzer Hydra Blade.
Personally, I would aim for a Trident of the Banished One which you can transform into a Blessed Trident of the Banished One when you reach T8, so it keeps scaling and will be useful forever. It was my first really major battle purchase and I have never regretted it. If this is your goal, you may need to wait a bit, because they usually sell for 300 - 350 million sP and can be hard to find. In fact, my choice if I were you, would be to get the Panzer Hydra Blade and the Reborn Icewand of Doom and then save the rest of your hard earned sP as a good start towards buying a trident. My second choice would be to also buy either RoTL or GoTF (see comparison below) and then save what's left after that.
I suggest you consider equipping both the Forj Tempered Shield and the Flayed Lord Breastplate if you can find the slots for them (maybe skip the bomb?). Then you can use the shield like a mini AoN (Amulet of Neutrality) and take advantage of it's higher block until it breaks without being defenseless afterwards.
Soma Tablets can be helpful, but I have managed to get along well without them and can't justify their cost when you still need so many other things. For most challengers (until some very high tier challengers who may not only require a double blast, but often a specific double blast that can depend on your particular battle set) I've found it hard enough to manage a single blast and for that your Recycle Blaster does the trick. And yes, except for the low chance to freeze and the possibility of a curse or a blessing, it works exactly like the Soma Tablets do. (Unlike Blackmoon's Hand Blaster, as pointed out.)
The Replica Minotaur Knocker (like the trident) was a prize for completing a Bobblehead Collection. Personally, I am not overly fond of it. I know it's an oft mentioned battle staple but it is limited by a single mod slot, its earth block is not large until T10 and still iffy then (since it's 10 or 15 or 90) and generally it doesn't help much when I try to use it. Somehow I almost always wind up swapping it out for some other option. In comparison to Batwing Blade, the knocker scales all the way to T11 and it has a percent heal (rather than the flat 40-50 hp heal of Batwing) so it will continue to grow with your pet. A 50 hp heal is almost useless at high tier.
For the items you specifically mentioned - I've already talked about RotL. I will add that if it comes down to choosing another healing option it can be a tough choice right now between RoTL and GoTF. GoTF only heals a flat 1500 and won't grow beyond that as your pet reaches much more health at high tiers (although it can still be a help then), but as a scroll it can be used in combination with two weapons so you can continue to attack while you heal. It also adds some attack and defense. RoTL is strickly defense and heal. And while it blocks icons across the board, it only blocks a few of each which will make less difference as your pet grows, so I tend to think of it as an "almost Phoenix Quill". The right choice between those two may depend a lot on your battling style.
Since you already have the Gorgun, I would not bother to buy a Deluxe Death Shard (unless, of course, you come across one at Blackheart Hollow which is where I got mine) but would wait for the Scientist Specs.
I would also not buy the Fireside Lantern. It's mostly used to unlock Cursed Effigy the Tormented, rather than as a weapon. If that's what you want it for, it's probably best to borrow one, since you get one awarded as an achievement prize for your first battle win. So you use the one you borrowed, and then return the one you win.
Personally, I am not fond of bombs. It may be my particular battling style but I rarely find a challenger where a one time bomb is the difference between winning and losing. And there are lots of hard hitting infinite use weapons (some with other advantages like healing or blocking) that serve me better.
You need to equip both Pandemonium and Ignitious at the same time to get the enhanced effects - so they would take up two weapon slots and neither has a heal. Probably why I've never heard either of them mentioned before.
For Mama Mush specifically - I suggest you use an Ice Shard which is cheap and will give you a one turn ice block where you can use your weapons and scrolls too. Also if you're close to a win you could consider using a Hairdryer of Melty. It's one use, so it will go away like the Ice Shard, but very cheap. Unfortunately, it will take up a weapon slot. If you have the AP, you could also just consider borrowing several Psycho Smasher scrolls. In addition to their 75% chance to freeze they also block 75 ice icons. And, if you have a Rainbow Vortex and/or a Shinwas Temple Shard (or can borrow them) they might also help. The vortex might even give you an extra freeze.
- very nice to see you here and hoping you will be feeling much better soon now. You are certainly the right one to ask about battle sets - especially cost efficient ones. :-)
USR was one of my first big purchase back in 2008 but I quickly outgrew it and sold it off.
There is no doubt that soma tab is better than BHB, but is it 61.5 mil better? I don't think so :P There are a few non-BQ opponents that I use blasting but I never have blasters in my BQ sets. Of course I have enough freezing scrolls(or lucky scrolls against opponents that won't freeze) to get me through most battles. I won all of the scrolls that I use so I know that's not a possible strategy for most people.
My 23rd and smallest pet is t9 with 128AP. I threw this set together for him to do some battling last night:
Simple Catoblepas Wheeley Toy
Item Hunters Bomb
Acorn Bomb
Bludgeon of Mass Extinction
Nachos Secret Stuff
Malhuili
Rainbow Vortex
Amulet of Neutrality
My general strategy is to use a freezer with a lucky scroll(Morosbane is a mini lucky scroll) in the first round. Then I use 2 weapons(usually bombs or items to get curses/blessings going) with freezing scrolls until I run out of those. Then it's 2 multi-use weapons(attack, defense, and heal) with a healing scroll until the end. Bombing and blasting are both less effective when you don't have multiple freezers(You do have to stay alive when you aren't blocking and healing! :P ) So again, what works best for me may not necessarily work for everybody.
Thanks for the input. FYI, Batwing Blade actually is a % healer... right now healing around 70hp ;) I'm not sure I want to get a weapon that scales by speed as I've chosen to stop increasing speed. I figure there are high tier weapons that don't require speed.
The Phoenix Quill does 100% whereas RotL does 90%, yes I can equip both but I always feel I don't have enough weapon slots :D Plus, another issue I've been dealing with is even with 100% when Poukie is hit hard it's not enough so GotF does make more sense. I could wait to see about RotL later on but it'll take a long time before I surpass 1500 hp for now. I've lost several battles because of the low hp issue, so I think it should be a priority.
The bombs play an important role in my strategy. I normally freeze & blast (scroll heal/attack) then I hit as hard as Poukie can bomb & strongest weapon (scroll attack), then I adjust my scrolls, defenses, healing, and attack depending who I'm fighting.
Thanks for sharing strategy, I battle in a similar way to you so it's good to know what kind of set you're using. I think Acorn bomb has moved to one of the top priorities. "Lucky" scrolls, what are they? Is it one that gives a good attack?
I'm wondering if it would be good/wise to borrow a few things before I purchase them for myself. See if the theory works well with the practice :)
- interesting, thanks. I don't know who has all the USR's on site but I couldn't find anyone who owned one awhile back when I was looking to try and borrow one (I was pushing my T8 against some challenger just for fun and it turned out that an extensive search using the SubetaLodge weapon list revealed USR as the perfect weapon for what I was doing - except of course, that they're unbuyable and don't seem to exist on the site anymore. :-)
Never heard of the wheelie toy before - cute little freezer. You really do have all the pretty toys. :-)
By the way, I have nothing against bombing or blasting. In fact my usual first turn is DDS/Recycle Blaster plus Aftershocks (that stay alive thing) - I have found that, for some unknown reason, most challengers that can one hit me somehow let me get away with this on the first turn most of the time - and it then means I can use two attacking weapons while they're frozen and can't defend - plus if I happen to blast the weapon they're using first turn, my blast seems to work before their attack. The main reason I don't bomb is lack of room in my set plus usually my infinite use weapons have as good an attack as any bomb I have available (perhaps because they tend to have baguettes on them and most of my lesser used weapons don't?).
Always so interesting to me how there are some basic underlying strategies and tricks, but every battler also has their own unique style and preferences.
Curious again - why choose Bludgeon of Mass Extinction (rather than trident or any of the other possible choices)?
I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum. Recycle Blaster and Soma Tablets are almost always in my set :P Bombs and full blockers certainly have their strengths, but I don't use them as often.
It's interesting to see the different strategies that each battler comes up with. Especially when you see someone come up with something you hadn't considered before :D
- only a few high tier weapons scale by speed and none of the ones that I suggested (they all scale by tier wihich is the most common).
I have a Batwing Blade and just checked. It's not a percent healer (heals a percent of your maximum health) but it does seem to scale past the 40-50 hp limit noted on SubetaLodge. At T10 with 1652 health, Tos gets a flat 100 hp heal from Batwing Blade. Not sure where it will top out for heal or attack, guess we need some high tier battlers to do a little testing here. It is still limited by it's single mod slot and it's blocking (6 icons each of dark, earth and water for Tos at T10) isn't really comparable to the big icon blocks of the battle staples.
For me, my infinite use weapons tend to hit as hard or harder (or in the worst case very close to as hard) as any bombs and since, as you noted, weapon slots can get tight, I skip the bombs in favor of other use choices.
My first turn is usually freezer plus blast plus Aftershocks - followed by my best attempt to get another freeze if possible (with a few exceptions like General Error) and best attackers while frozen if I don't have freezing potential. Anytime my opponent is frozen I will sacrifice a bit of attack for a chance to freeze since that gives me a second chance for a defenseless attack plus another round to heal - a good trade off in my opinion. After that it's mostly attack unless I need to heal or have other freezing/cursing ability to think about.
By the way, most battlers prefer to freeze first turn and then blast while their opponent is frozen. I'm one of the few who prefers freeze plus blast first turn. It does seem to work well for me.
Yes, exactly. As the challengers get tougher, I often get killed the turn I try to use Phoenix Quill because they can often hit for more than 100 percent of my health (although remember that RoTL also does some blocking with it's heal which PQ does not). But, of course, you asked about longterm and that means remembering that 100 percent of max health goes way past 1500 hP eventually. Also some challengers disable scrolls (a few also disable one weapon, less than disable scrolls though and there are no challengers that disable both weapons other than by freezing). On the other hand, scrolls can't be blasted or stolen.
If you are able to borrow something - especially an expensive weapon or scroll, it always pays to try before you buy. As I said - I personally don't much like Replica Minotaur Knocker and would not have been very happy had I spent the sP to purchase one. And expensive weapons can be sold, but it may take some time to do so.
Please note that supports his Acorn Bomb with a large set of freezers so you might want to raise your AP and get those freezers in hand before purchasing your bomb - although the bomb isn't horribly expensive and does have a nice curse to go along with its attack. If you do get it - use it as early in the battle as possible (second turn after your guaranteed freezer is best) to maximize the curse damage you get. (Curse damage is not blockable.)
So many different choices - good luck and hope you wind up pleased with your decision.
I gave info in the tank for the batwing stats at Poukie's tier... it seems to vary for healing (that round got over 10%) and keeps increasing even at t10 for the attack & def. It's an interesting weapon to say the least :D
I usually use only 1 bomb since I only have 1 guaranteed freeze with the gorgun. Item bomb is good but acorn has 18 extra attack so it would make a nice difference.
I know of one challenger (forget name) that stole a lot of my weapons. I was really not happy in that situation grrr. As you wrote, GotF can't be stolen... I haven't encountered challengers that block scrolls... the horror, eek! I would eventually need both at least 1 GotF and a RotL. But... I'm debating if I can wait a while for RotL... I could eventually earn the sp if I spent it elsewhere. 2 GotF could really save Poukie in tough situations and I've been stuck in limbo because of too powerful hits. What I actually need is a good blocker and the ones that are usually recommended are unaffordable.
Where can I go to ask to borrow items? You know me... I'm a bit shy and it's tough for a stranger to trust someone with super expensive items. I'm reliable & adorable... but strangers don't know that.
Do you know if Rainbow Vortex gets discounted on Black Friday? It might be the only way I can grab one. Should I put aside part of the sp I earned to buy CS to get the vortex or is there an equivalent that's obtainable/less expensive?
I'm developing my own strategy as I go; however, it's always useful to know how others go about it... sometimes different strategies can make a big difference & if mine doesn't work then maybe someone else's does :D
Thank you so much for the price info. I'm so not used to buying big-ticket weapons I wouldn't know if the price was good or inflated.
- the 18 extra attack for the acorn bomb is good, but probably not a reason to spend 11 million sP since, as I said, it's rare for a bomb to be the difference between winning and losing a battle. What makes the Acorn Bomb a possible exception is its excellent curse which does 3 icons of damage per turn for 100 turns.
Dean who is a Level 25 Battle Quest challenger completely blocks scroll use - just as one example.
Not sure where to suggest you ask to borrow weapons. You can always try the Battle Chat thread (they really are friendly there and you already know several of us - , , and maybe some others too. There used to be a weapon borrowing thread in the battle forum but I'm not sure if it's really active any more. I usually borrow my weapons from battle friends directly (or they suggest I try them and lend them to me before I even think to ask because battlers are amazing).
By the way, there is also a thread somewhere (again not sure it's still active) for checking what would be a reasonable price for any big ticket items (including battle items) and, of course, you can always ask for price information on the Battle Chat thread.
Rainbow Vortex and Shinwas Temple Shard are roughly equivalent and both very expensive. STS is a full blocker at Tier 4 and RV is only a full blocker at Tier 5, but RV has a low chance to freeze and STS has none. The other full blocker is AoN which is a Tier 9 weapon that is a semi-breakable (rather than Once Per Battle) full blocker.
Lucky scrolls do 50 light, block 75 dark, and heal 500 Hps Morosbane do 40 light and heal 300 Borrowing is always a good idea before you purchase. The more expensive the items are, the better the idea! I'm not sure about the RV on black Friday but it seems like weapons are not discounted.
My battle strategy is usually to steamroll my opponents as fast as possible, especially in BQs. I sometimes don't like that I have my mecha and CEF in my 3rd and 4th spots when I could have bombed in the second round and been done, but it's quicker to go one more round than change weapons with the auto-selected weapons BC.
blessed trident at t9: 32-37 icons and Bludgeon of Mass Extinction: 33-42 icons with a little better second attack. Trident heals a little better but bludgeon defends a little better. Deadwood Scissorbeak is good but it doesn't heal. I would normally have Gelatin Concoction over Malhuili but that's just what I grabbed last night. Trident is awesome because it scales with your pet but I rarely use it unless I need air defense.
