I honestly think it's about time to retire the Richest User achievement, and maybe even the "You are the x richest user on Subeta." I've thought this for a while now - as fun a bit of trivia as it is, it's useless, and keeps a lot of sP hanging out in the economy for no good reason.
Frankly, at this point all it does is encourage people to hoard sP. The richest user has 52B sP right now, a number that increases fairly rapidly. Maybe back when the site was new and sP was harder to earn, it may have been possible to overtake them; now, unless you want to buy hundreds of dollars of CSC and sell it all, first place is a hell of a long way away from the average user.
(and ftr, I am the 81st richest at this moment, with 4B in the bank, 20M on hand, and 100M in the shop till. Just so you know I'm not saying this because I'm sour grapes about rich users on Subeta! I am a rich user, haha)
If I'm not wrong one of the staff members is the richest user and gets the sp from any purchase we are doing from the MC and I think the Antique shop, this is why it's always increasing.. - was clarified as wrong :)
tbh I have the achievement already but I still hoard because I have nothing to waste my sP on so far, one of the reasons is that when I see a big number to waste, I backing off from it.. it's expensive so I don't buy..
So I don't know if to retire this achievement is a good way to stop the hoarding..
I'd say that's a good reason to retire the achievement, at least. There's no way to beat that anyway, so why is it even there?
ETA: And I know of a good number of people who are only hoarding their sP because of the richest user count - there's an entire thread dedicated to people saving specifically to become as rich as they can for the satisfaction of seeing that number grow smaller.
I think the point of the achievement was to gather people together with a big giant trust and make a pool and lend to each other the sP, I might be wrong.
I now about this thread, I think it's a nice one because it shows the user's achievements.. and with or without the "you the X richest user", this thread will remain somehow because they users will just post their sum..
Why do we need to have a staff member who gets all of the sP from our purchases from like the MC and all? Even if they're not spending it, it still seems weird.
I was under the impression that sP spent like that just gets deleted into the digital abyss. I mean I guess it still serves the same purpose if it's being stored away somewhere that nobody can use it, but still. Why not just remove it from the system completely?
Hm. If that was the intent, that's sweet, but it obviously failed :c I'm not convinced removing the richest user count would just have people posting their sP - the beauty of the richest user count is it gives you a quick, easy way to judge your progress, and it's less interesting to scroll through a list of sP counts without that ezpz single number as a benchmark.
(and ty, by the way - I didn't actually know the richest user was getting all that sweet, sweet MC sP dumped into their account)
Uhh.... what? This is a pretty wild rumor.
[edit] Guys, please don't just... believe things people tell you like that.

Good to know.
Despite that, though, I'm still on the side of retiring the achievement v:
I always assumed that -any- NPC shop purchase would simply delete the sP... And I believe that if this was true the richest user would have billions more lol
Anyway, no reason to retire it, last time some users worked together to bundle up their sP and get the achievement, that was quite nice. Plus is a nice title to flaunt.
Yeah, tbh I'm also on the side of retiring it, because I think it might not be good for the economy since it encourages hoarding sP. (Of course, staff will discuss this as a team, so my opinion is just that: my personal opinion.)
I admit I was disturbed by how readily you accepted that rumor... It's a pretty serious accusation. Fwiw I can see who the richest users are, and none of the staff are even up there.

Marlboro is a very old user, and one that I've seen around a lot, not some random newbie with an account age similar to my own. I edited my original post, but when I edited it with what they said, I did hedge on the side of "might be." And tbh.... This isn't a personal attack, but Subeta's done some weird, counterintuitive stuff, Bug. Just sayin' <: B
man I have worked so hard for that sP and it was all in the name of getting under the top 100 orz
I wouldn't mind seeing it gone. I've never liked the whole wealth ranking, anyway. I find it stressful; like the site wants you to hoard sp and quietly compete with other users. It's not like it's a real judge of user wealth, since a lot of people will have most of their sp tied up in items etc.
Edit: I'm also super enjoying this weird piece of Subeta folklore.
thanks for the clarification, this is why I was not sure because I heard it for someone who heard it from someone etc. and I thought that it's real.
Sorry about that!
I'll never have the achievement because I'm a lazy player, and I'm totally fine with that. However, I do agree that it should just go, along with some others.
It seems as though the site has made some of it's own problems by introducing these sorts of achievements, (hello all the hoarding ones), and yeah, that's a mistake that you can really only realize after the fact, but that doesn't mean you can't rectify it.
I'm also fine with retiring all the highest tiers in places like wardrobe, keeping stuff in your shops, etc. It puts a strain on the servers, and stops items from being circulated around the site. Gong forward, I hope staff takes these into consideration, and puts hard limits on these types of achievements.
I can see positives and negatives for why it could be retired.
But the point that it causes people to hoard sP isn't the only reason they hoard it, mainly due to the fact that the people with that much sP normally have nothing they need to spend their sP on in. So retiring it for that express purpose doesn't seem justified in my eyes.
There isn't even a staff member in the top 50!
I thought it seemed strange, good to know it's just a rumor I guess.
I know the staff have become like really anti-hoarding stuff lately, but some people are always going to hoard no matter what. That goes for sP as well, some people just like having a lot even for no reason.
I don't really care so much about retiring the achievement or not, but the people who have that much sP I don't think all of them are doing it just for that.
I HATE this Suggestion.
I like the wealth ranking because it helps me price big ticket items and because it gives me a feel for the current rate of inflation and how quickly things should sell at the prices I set. Once I know that the average subetan user has x sP (from the About page) and then compare it to whatever my current ranking (usually after making some big purchases myself) this is super useful to me.
I'm not really sure what the harm is in sP being hoarded. So what if it is? Why is the pleasure and fun someone may get in saying "you're an sP hoarder nyah nyah nyah" that it is more important gamewise than the pleasure some other user gets from holding on to theirs?
It's not the real world where governments need to keep their currency positioned correctly on the market in the face of bank and megacorp bullying and profit taking so that their citizens don't suffer, since Subeta can print or restrict sP supplies without limit. Why bring RL concerns here?
As for this, I don't have strong feelings either way. Since there's the little count on the dashboard, people are probably still going to hoard, just to get their number to change. But, the 'hoard shop items' achievements were gotten rid of at some point, so I'd be fine with this being removed as well.
