I don't see the benefit, I doubt this single achievement has any effect at all on the economy. Plus, it was super fun to get a group together to pull for the achievement, why take that away from others?
idk... i'm not interested in going after this title myself, but at this point there's only a handful of titles that are truly difficult to get & it sounds like most of the time, it isn't a solo effort anyhow? it feels like it'd be a bit of a bummer to get rid of the achievement.
i honestly doubt the achievement is the thing that is making people hoard sp.
and im not the richest user. not even close lmao.
Please don't get rid of it. Even though I'll never ever be the richest user it gives me a goal to keep playing and earning sp
edit: without it i'd lose a lot of motivation to play

Please no. That achievement has been a long-term goal of mine. Just like hoarding achievements were (glad I got those!)
Besides, retiring the achievement won't make me suddenly and magically want to spend my sP. I'll probably simply stop having my goal and start burning a hole down to Subeta boredom.
[edit] I do have other goals, this one is just the one that drives me the most. Just wanted to clear it up XD
Yeah...I vote to KEEP the achievement. I'm no wheres near it, nor am I trying to obtain it currently... but I think it's a really unique achievement+title to have. 👍
I don't support this. Getting rid of the achievement and the "You are x richest user" info isn't going to stop people from hoarding sP. People will still hoard sP so they can buy the expensive items, be generous during Lumi, or maybe there's just nothing they want to spend it on.
This achievement has been one of my goals for many years and I'm nowhere near reaching it, I'm in the 2000's. If this went away, I would still hoard sP because my wishlists are full of expensive items that won't drop in price.
I don't think the achievement should be retired because it encourages people to "hoard sp" (they will do it anyway)...
..It should be retired because it's a dumb idea.
Re: "This achievement was made to encourage users to work together". We were discouraged from asking our friends to hold our money to do Sarah's quests for the Quest-a-Thon, why are we being encouraged to get a friend to hold money for this achievement? Perhaps this "working together to be the richest user" was a thing in the past when it was concieved, but currently I don't think it's really feasible.
You wouldn't even have to get rid of the whole system altogether. There's no reason why the average user wealth should go, for starters. I'd happily see the specific ranking's replaced with a position in terms of percentage of the whole user base (either with integers of to one decimal place). It's still something to strive for, and 'you are in the top 1% richest users' sounds a lot better than 'you are the 1275th richest user'.
Plus, surely we can come up with another achievement for working together which actually better represents that (rather than a risky combining of funds so you can be the richest user for a whole minute; has anyone even managed that recently?).
From what I can tell, it's not against the rules for people to pool their resources together and work with each other to get achievements. I know some other sites (like Neopets, specifically) have had rules not allowing people to pool items or currency together for achievements/avatars/whatever. But with Subeta, it seems like staff give us a little more leeway in how we want to do stuff like that. If you trust the other users you're working with, it's up to you whether or not you want to lend your friends or random people all your sP or items.
I don't really see a reason why this achievement has to be retired though. It may not be something that a lot of people obtain, but it is still technically achievable if people want to work together. It's just a lot harder to get than most achievements.
Do not support. :(
Dont retire it. Like others have said... It gives people a goal to strive for. The current richest user worked at getting that much and others can too. :) I already have the cheevie ( got back when the richest user was like a bit over 1b - back when the most you could have was under 2,147"something" ).
'you are in the top 1% richest users' sounds a lot better than 'you are the 1275th richest user'.
bolding is mine I LOVE this! We all want to be a part of the richest 1% and NOT the other 99 poorest. :P
It wouldn't hurt me either way. I know with only 30mill in the vault and 20mill in the shop till, I won't ever get close to it. Keep it or retire it, I'm not even looking at it.
But I also think that the amount of people hoarding for this achievement is probably outweighed by the amount of people hoarding for other reasons. The problem I see in other topics is that people have nothing to spend sP on that's worthwhile for them. My personal problem, with my relatively small hoard, is that I don't like to be without it. That's two sources that wouldn't be addressed with a retired achievement and there are probably a lot more reasons than that too.
Oh yeah, my bad. :P
But still, I dislike this achievement because not everyone has like 100 rich friends or 10000 poor ones. :P
neither do i, but that's not a reason to cancel the party for everyone else p:
I'm actually trying to get the achievement by myself. Will I ever get it? Maybe, maybe not, but I can sure try and I'll appreciate the achievement even more because of the work I put in.
Just because something is disliked by a few doesn't mean that it has to be removed/taken away from the majority. This achievement is one of my goals and a reason that I quest almost every day and find things to restock my shop. *And I remember all the years I was a poor person here and had a hard time making sP. That's a reason why I hoard sP now, I don't want to be that poor again.
ok, perhaps we shouldn't retire it. :P But changing it to something like the top 1% (as suggested by someone else) seems much better. Maybe even top 0.5% or something. And the people that get there can have the "Richest User Acheivement". A little more attainable.
I don't support retiring it.
To me, retiring some of these old, wildly popular achievements is actually hurting subeta itself because less people are interested. Removing challenges that users set for themselves like the hoarding achievements make users feel like they were working on all of that for nothing. I've seen quite a few people leave subeta because the work they put into their accounts suddenly amounted to nothing. While I do agree making any new achievements like this absolutely shouldn't happen, I don't agree with retiring an achievement that sooo many users aspire to one day reach and inspires great conversation starters.
I'm fine with changing it to the top 1% or top 0.5% in order to get the achievement. Make it become more of a reality for users and not some far off dream since sP limits have been increased in the past.
I agree with you. I remember when Subeta had over 1,000 users online every day instead of just holidays and plots. I know I saw a lot of people say they would leave if the hoarding achievements were done away with because there went their reason to be on Subeta. And I remember some pretty negative reactions to Keith's comments that users shouldn't try to own all of one item/hoarding is a bad thing.
