Reposting mine from the news since at least a few folks seemed to like it:
name: Since we still need "Y" names...
Yarrow, yarrel, yarrowel, etc. -- SOMETHING related to the yarrow flower! ("-el" was just tossed on at the end as a diminutive, but I'm not attached at all to that part of the suggestion.)
thoughts on why behind cut
Yarrow's a plant with a ton of different medicinal properties & uses & some neat folklore.
Its Spanish name even means "little feather," because of its leaves. A few other colloquial names include "thousand-leaf" & "thousand-seal," which makes me think of all the eyeballs & feathers. Further: there's some folklore where holding the leaves up to the eyes would give one second sight.
My less serious reason for suggesting it: the centres of the flowers that peek through the petals remind me of the yellow horns/spines in the experiment's design peeking out of its hind feathers.
Flowerbutts. Haha.
P.S. I very much considered just posting the acronym "WYSIWYG" as my suggested name, instead.
I'm calling the blob Goopter or Blop until an official name is released.
I really liked the news comment suggestion to include hera in the naming process because of the whole eyes on the peacock tail thing. I didn't know that bit of mythology, but I wouldn't doubt if the peacock deer was inspired by that.
I really liked "Peaper" for the , which someone suggested in the news. It's punny.

uhmm okay first for the /nervous
Varmayil Varma means "protection" in Hindi, and Mayil is Hindi Tamil, (thanks for catching that!) for "peacock". i chose to look up these words since the peacock is a revered bird in South-Asia. as beautiful as names like Peacora and Peahera were, i thought it would be lovely to have a name starting with a less common letter, shared only with the Velosotor.
edit!: a reason that i just thought of for the use of the word "protection" is that Harry Potter's corporeal Patronus (protective guardian) is a deer - the second species of the .
Yunmei this appeared as a suggestion for the previous Zentu poll (and if im not wrong, came in second place). Yun (pronounced Yin) is Chinese for "cloud" and Mei is Chinese for "beautiful", though you can also see the Japanese word for "fate" - Unmei. it also fills up the missing Y slot quite nicely!
Yumera a new one thats hopefully easier to pronounce. Yume of course means "dream" in Japanese, but inspiration also comes from the name Hera (the goddess who set the eyes of her killed servant in a peacock's tail as gratitude), and Ysera, the guardian dragon of the Emerald Dream in WoW.

my own chosen name was Urania for the silver-black element Uranium. but it also does kind of look like a radioactive blob! xD it also fills up the missing U name slot.
i was toying around with the word Umber as well, but suggested Umblorba, and i fully support it as well :'D its just so cute!

For the blob: 'Stemoni' from Stemonitis, which is a genus of slime molds that are typically black/brown in color.
Though, I also really like 's suggestion of 'Urania'.
Yregius (Ee-reh-joo-sé) for peacock? Regius means royal/regal in latin, and the experiment looks very regal and high class to me.

Blob Names I considered something with the word vantablack; the blackest thing to ever black. But, we could use a U name.
Umblobra umbra + blob / black stuff + wiggly stuff Umblorba also sounds great. Really rolls around in the mouth when you say it. Like jelly.

I think (and maybe others, didn't read them all) suggested Bloop in the News comments for the blob and I loved that hahahah.
For the Peacock-Kirin:
I thought maybe Yanrin or Yanrang
Kirins/Qilins come from East Asian lore, "Yàn" means eye in Chinese and "rin" can either be from Kirin or a common Japanese name meaning dignified or severe.
"Rang" means color in Hindi since one of the countries peacocks come from is India.
