Is there an actual formula to this or it is 100% random or what? My pet is a gourmand (over 3k foods) and I go to the Foods Eaten page after I finish feeding him every single time, since I thought that's supposed to make the hunger go back down faster. But nothing about his hunger makes any sense at all. Sometimes he'll go down a point in an hour and other times, like tonight, I'll be gone or asleep for like eight to twelve hours and he goes down just 1 single point. Its incredibly frustrating because of all the achievements tied to food.

Yup, same problem here, I just think it's screwed at this point. My gourmand pet is over 3k foods too, and change in speed at which she gets hungry varies depending on time/mood/weather/cosmic energy??? during the same day. I feed in the evening to full, it drops 7-8 points when I'm off for the night, so all ok, I feed in the morning to full again, check after work, so again 7-8 hours and it has dropped 1 freaking point. The next day, it can be completely reversed.

I'm glad its not just my pet but I'm sorry you're dealing with it too. That sounds exactly like my problem. I have over 350 foods saved (and usually get more every day) so I hate that I can't even estimate how long it'll take me to get through them. I wonder if hunger is glitched or just plain doesn't work or something.

there's definitely something screwed up with pet hunger - previously I'd been able to feed Kosmo 10 items one morning, then return the next morning and feed another 10. This morning he only took four items before he was full again (and that was probably about 18-20 hours after I fed him yesterday).

Some foods have a value higher than one. Did you check to see if your pet was at zero before you started?

Maybe something -just- changed? Eater is my gourmand pet but I'm only starting: Eater has eaten 895 food items! I usually feed him 10 items every morning, he's ALWAYS at zero, but today he's at 3. Very odd.

Since I started actively feeding him again (a bit before Masq) I've never been able to feed him 10 items in one morning, even when I'm gone for longer than usual. Before that I can't be sure but I don't think I logged onto him at 0 ever unless I wasn't feeding him at the time. How weird.

I've never seen a food that indicates a 'value'. And no, my pet is never at zero because waiting that long is a waste of time to me. As soon as he hits 9, or as soon as I log on, I feed him until he's full.

you personally may not have seen this value. I myself haven't. Nevertheless, staff has told us it does indeed exist, and is unknown to the users. I DO pay attention to how full my pet is and I have experienced foods giving a value of more than one.

has talked about making this value known in a list somewhere and that it is difficult to assemble as it is in four separate tables. But right now, nobody but staff knows and only if they look, or remember.

So does this hidden value keeps pets full for 12 hours or something?

only a few foods count for that much.

There are a lot of invisible factors in feeding pets, and feeding your pets is a long term project. If you think there really is a problem with feeding right now report it in Problems & Bugs. My own eaterpet has eaten all seven thousand foods + and she had no problem gobbling down all the butters and hot dogs with the recent Achievements, so if there is a problem, it's a new one and should be reported.

Hm. I can't help but feel if they're going to have a mechanic that affects how long each food lasts, it really needs to be transparent so that users can allow for that in feeding their pets. I have noticed as well that how quickly my pet gets hungry varies, and I don't mind it because I'm patient/don't care enough, but I can easily see how it would annoy others, especially if they have limited free time.

If it's going to be a hidden trait of the food, they might want to consider disabling it until they find some way to present it to users in a more transparent manner. At least give us rough guidelines - sugary foods don't keep them full as long as protein/meat, etc. - so that people who care can guesstimate how long it'll be before they can feed their pet again.

Just curious here but if your pet has eaten 7k foods why did you feed them all the butter and hotdogs again?

I really didn't feed them about two thirds of the butter and half of the hotdogs. I got to seven thousand without doing that. Really.

I myself was surprised.

Oh, that surprises me. I am at +7600 and had eaten all those already, which is really quite nice. I guess I just assumed anyone at that high a level had probably eaten all those things.

I'm only at 7120. When I last did Major Drills, I found that every now and then, like once every three to four weeks, Major Drills will ask me to feed something to my pet that she hasn't eaten yet. Apparently, my food choice and feeding method has been rather haphazard. :)

Anyways, we know that there have been times when the feeding function has been borked here, it just isn't so for me right now. Have you personally observed your eaterpet being more hungry than other pets you have? I have an Infinity Berry and have a tendency to plop it into her mouths randomly as I play each day.and the rest are at Veta.

I am currently only feeding her when new foods are released and holiday shops have new items. I am not really feeling the need to spend upwards of a million per item to feed her the things she still hasn't eaten. And I am not spending cash on foods either. having said that, the more recent times I have fed her I did notice her hunger levels were all over the place.

My other pets are always starving save when they are battling and I feed them with the berry.

Honestly I agree with everything you've said.

I feed my pet, but also I go weeks without the energy to do so, so I can't reallyyyyy complain about this. But it's very annoying when I pull out ten items, because Cibophobia is 0/10 and then he only eats eight or nine of them. So whatever I'll leave them in my inventory and go to bed and feed him in the morning. But the hunger only dropped one point????

I've heard that different food has different values, but I can't recall if I've ever actually heard it from staff? Like, not to question what anyone is saying, or has said in the past, but is there a source? And if that is indeed the case, then I agree, it should be accessible or have some kind of sense to it, as Raumlet suggested - protein keeps pets full longer, poop based food makes them throw up and need more. idk

Pet hunger has changed a lot over the years. At one point, and I have no idea if its still like this, hunger was "adjusted" every hour. A number between 0-3(maybe 4) is generated and that much is removed from pet hunger. Which value you get may be weighted (so you are more likely to get 0 or 1 for example).

Last year Keith added a feature that was supposed to make obvious gourmand pets hungry faster (based on the number of foods fed I assume). This fix backfired and gourmand pets stayed full longer. I don't know if the feature was finally fixed, or just removed.

With all the site changes, at this point I have no confirmed idea how pet hunger is handled.

from here: Foods giving more than 1 point of fullness.

Quote by amber
I&;ve just gone into the database to see how many food items we have that give more than one hunger point. Out of 8240 food items, only 108 give more than one point (some give 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, or 10). They&;re all pretty old itemids, too. A lot are the higher rarity ones, with a few being 160/175 (example: Dill being a reading drive prize way back feeds your pet for 3 hunger and it&;s rarity 160).

It feels like pet hunger's been buggy for the past two days.

I usually feed my gourmand pet (~3650 food) until he hits 10/10 hunger every 20-24 hours. It's been dropping much more slowly in the past two days, he's still at 3/10 now and I've fed him at roughly this time yesterday.

Sheesh... it sounds like hunger and food are an absolute mess and need a total recode :/

My pet is still crawling along just barely getting hungry. I've been feeding him candy and coconut drinks today. Those shouldn't have a secret 'value' of hours.
