Guesssssssss what's not working again~~~~~
I think I fed Cibophobia around 130p yesterday? And he's still 10/10.
Honestly, I think given all of the issues we've been having with pet hunger we should get a day - just a single special day - where we can just shove food down our pets' gullets. Just willy nilly empty the fridge and pantry in to their stomach. While this thread was started only in May, there's another thread from March, and I could have sworn there were issues back in December as well. This has been going on for a while.
/edit I would like to apologise. I juuust remembered that I put my gourmand in to the resort so I could battle with him to win some food prize before the throw back changed. So, he's still 10/10, but it's my own fault. That doesn't change that other people seem to be having this problem, and that we should have a binge day.
bird and bear and hare and fish give my love her fondest wish
6/30 2:30p EST 10/10 2:00a EST 5/10 3:00p EST 0/10 24hr+
7/1 3:08p EST 10/10 2:06a EST 4/10 8:16a EST 1/10, hit zero at some point between then and 11a EST 17-21hr-ish
7/2 12:03p EST 10/10 12:00a EST 5/10 12:07a EST 0/10 24hr
i had hoped the first 24 cycle was an outlier or an error but i guess that was foolish. if this is how it's always been since the change and i just never noticed, i really don't get how this is an improvement :!
[edit] 7/3 12:10p 10/10 (~10:15p 5/10) 12:00a 4/10 2:18a 2/10 i'm not staying up to see if widow hits zero overnight, but ??maybe this has self-corrected??
I don't think it's always been like this since the change. When they made it so that gourmands were supposed to get hungrier faster, it worked for a little while. Now for some reason it doesn't really do that anymore and I have no idea why.
i should've specified, that's my bad. i meant the inconstancy (in this case, long - manageable - long again); i wouldn't mind long cycles if it was confirmed that was how it was supposed to be, but the unpredictability is annoying. like, if it was a 24hr cycle all the time, that's whatever, i'd just feed at reset. but it's not, so it's hard to build a routine, you know?
i do remember hunger dropping faster during the change, and that still seems to happen with the first few points? widow seems to lose the first three points or so pretty quickly but then she stalls at 5 or 6/10 for hours and hours s:
Oh yeah, true. It is very inconsistent and I'm not sure why that is either. Like for me too, sometimes it takes a few hours for my pet to go down to 9/10 and sometimes it only takes one hour after feeding. IDK why that is, but it is pretty annoying and weird that they haven't been able to fix it after so long...
Hi everyone. Me and Cron looked into this and can tell you it's complicated. Hunger is updated by the cron and it's supposed to update every hour, on the hour. That's also when pets in the resort are supposed to be updated to be happy and full.
What's happening beyond that is still a bit foggy to me (I'm new here) but I wanted to at least say, your concerns are heard and it's on my list :)
I agree that there should be more clarity/transparency about how hunger works, and I'll keep that in mind when I do get to addressing this.

Thanks for the update! I was aware of hunger-related things updating on the hour, it just seemed very inconsistent since it doesn't seem to change every hour exactly.
I think most people probably just want either more consistency or at least better clarity over how it's determined which hours hunger will go down a point vs when it won't. Especially since gourmand pets were supposed to be getting hungrier faster after visiting their "Foods Eaten" page.
Thanks for looking into all of these issues though, it's great having another programmer around to tackle these things! :)
It updates every hour, but not for all of the pets on the site (that'd mean every pet would go to 0 hunger after 10 hours) - it randomly selects a chunk of pets every hour and then makes them hungry.
💖 ✨ 🤗
Well that actually makes sense. Does it only include pets that are at some non-zero number/10 and aren't in the resort when it does that? Because pets at 0 obviously can't go any lower, and resort pets aren't supposed to go down so I'm just wondering.
I completely understand. I wish I had better clarity over how it's determined too. The thing about Subeta is that, well, it's been around for over a decade. The code is very old, complex, and messy... to the point where it can be really hard for even the programmers to know what it's doing anymore hahaha. One of my goals as a programmer here is to try and reorganize some of this stuff so it's clearer to all of us what's going on.
It's not an easy goal, and I'm gonna have to ask for even more patience unfortunately while I tackle it all (I know these issues are frustrating for you guys). Thank you so much for bearing with it <3

Yeah, I've seen the old code issue brought up before as well, and it's completely understandable. I think myself and most users are willing to be patient as long as we know that something is being worked on. Like I said in my other post, having another programmer around will be pretty nice. Hopefully you're able to help with getting some of the bigger coding issues tackled and it will just make the site even better down the line! <3
Has hunger taken an insane turn for the worse for anyone else today? My gourmand has been full for almost the entire day. I don't know how many hours exactly but for at least 5-6ish he hasn't gone down a single point.
YUP. This morning (7/13), Nodd's hunger was at 3/10. Which is awesome. I stuffed his beaky face.
More than 12 hours later (7/14 Subeta time)? Hunger's at 9/10. This is why my 'Feed Nodd' gallery/pantry is like... 5 or 6 pages. Because half the time, I can only feed him 1-3 items.
Ugh. This is so frustrating!. I still couldn't feed him at all before I went to sleep, which was about 1 1/2 hours from my post and now that I just woke up, he's only 7/10.
no idea how anyone else's pet is doing and i haven't been keeping a close eye on my own these past few days, but it looks like widow's hunger is on something close to a consistent twelve hour timer? which is heaps better than maybe-18-maybe-24. i have no idea what kind of behind the scenes shenanigans went on to make this happen but i am so thankful ;w;
Seems to be a 12-hour timer for Nodd's hunger as well... I think. TBH, I'm not sure what time prior to 10pm (PST) I last fed him, but it feels right to say around 10am?
So if this is fixed or on the right track to being fixed, thank you to whoever is responsible!
yay! i'm glad to hear you're seeing around a 12-hour timer too; hopefully this means staff is on the right track to fixing hunger for good ;3;
When there are very tiny throwback challengers, I usually instead of putting them into the resort I only just feed an Oofa fruit to the pet I want to get them done with (because they are available instantly and then don't crowd my eligible pets list for a whole day at least).
So one pet does not even last long enough for negligible opponents like this month and I have to feed it again, others stay eligible for many hours. A little consistency would help.
Also I have noticed, that the resort sometimes does show, how much longer pets are booked in there, sometimes not (the latter being disturbing)
The inconsistently is definitely frustrating. Some mornings Riordyn will gobble up 10 foods but today, after over 7 hours of being away, he had only gone down 3 points.
Bless whoever is responsible for adding pet hunger info to the dialogue after feeding an item (I suppose it's :D ). No more need to check mostly sloow Pets page for that now.
Also, the hunger for my gourmand is still mostly inconsistent but I can feed a pretty good amount of foods daily so I'm happy with that so far ^^
