Hey ! I just wanted to give you guys a brief refresher/reminder about naming CWs - I think sometimes we all just need a reminder so we go "Oh yeah, that's right!" We've been running into a few of the same naming issues lately, however, so here's a brief rundown :)
• CW names cannot contain apostrophes. So you cannot have "Warrior's Sword" as a CW item name - the apostrophe will end up edited out. You could do something like "Sword of the Warrior", which a lot of people do, though I personally think this gets a bit wordy after a bit! Something like "Warrior Blade" or even just "Warrior Sword" will work without needing the apostrophe.
• If your custom item is an animal, it MUST contain a word to indicate it is not a minion. If your item is a wearable animal, we recommend adding "Companion" to the end - like "Gray Kitty Companion". If your CW is just using an animal in the item for a prop for a wig or horns or some sort of accessory, it STILL NEEDS THIS! So "Gray Kitty Locks" for a wig "Gray Deer Antlers" for ... antlers, etc. We are seeing this one a LOT lately, so please be aware of this!
• Item names need to reflect the item image, not the overlay image. If the item is a snowglobe and the background is a winter cityscape, the item name can't be "Winter Cityscape". It needs to be "Winter Cityscape Snowglobe".
• Item names (and descriptions) NEED TO HAVE AMERICAN ENGLISH SPELLING. This is a great resource if you're unsure of which spelling you need!
• Proper capitalization is a must. The item can't be named "Adorable orange kitty companion". It needs to be "Adorable Orange Kitty Companion". It also can't be "Sword Of The Warrior" - it should be "Sword of the Warrior". (again, this goes for descriptions, too!)
• Names shouldn't too closely resemble existing Subeta items, especially sets/costume trunks, since we don't want the items to be mistaken as being part of it! This one is sort of hard and is often judged on a case-by-case basis, but it's good to keep in mind
• KNOWN ISSUE: Hyphens do not work in submitted CWs for whatever reason. We generally will add these afterwards if they look like they need it :)
For the most part, if we get a CW where the ONLY mistake is an issue with the name, we'll accept it and fix it. If it needs a totally new name, we'll sometimes deny it or event the user for a new name. Constant offenders WILL start getting their items denied after a while, and if we have to deny it for something else and mention this, and it isn't fixed upon resubmission, it can get redenied as well. Also, submitting your CW with the correct name the first time may help it get accepted faster - CWs that need to have their name altered will sometimes sit a bit longer while we event + wait for a ticket, and that sort of thing.
One big exception: If your item is submitted with a name that is EXACTLY the same as another item's on site, it has to be denied. We cannot accept these at all and rename them, since it might break something!
On that note, back to the queue! You guys are submitting SO MANY gorgeous things lately!
eyes groaning queue/pats sympathetically
Yes, absolutely! I will fix it now (fwiw if you submit a ticket about this sort of thing it's really easy for us to fix :) Sometimes we just miss them!)
oh of course lol shoulda done that. my brain is like wading through molasses today, sorry! thanks though <3
I have a quick question regarding the english spelling does that mean if I was to submit another CW similar to my Sakura Megami Makeup I would have to write out Cherry Blossom Goddess Makeup?
:)
No, I mean for English words (Gray, not grey. Pajamas, not pyjamas. Color, not colour). Some foreign language words are allowed AS LONG AS they are common or well known words in that language
Ah okay, Thanks for the clarification! There are several "grey" items onsite though.
:)
Trust me, I know, and we do our best to catch them. That one is difficult for most of us (I spell 'gray' as 'grey' all the time), but technically the American English spelling is Gray and that is what we are looking for.
Since you're here, would "Madame" be okay to use instead of "madam"?
The spellings for those are actually interchangeable in American English! So that's fine :)
Thanks for letting me know. I honestly don't even think about these kinds of things when naming and I know they have slightly different meanings, but yeah I personally use grey all the time when typing so if I ever release something grey I'll make sure to remember american english. ;)
I don't know why, but gray and grey have always seemed like different shades in my mind... Gray has always seemed to evoke a 'warmer' shade, for lack of a better description, than grey. is weird
To stay on topic, I'll definitely keep these in mind should I ever get around to commissioning a CW myself! ;)
Thanks for clarification on the capitalization ! I've seen official and custom items go both ways (and have gone both ways myself out of confusion). Just need to remind myself to use "proper title capitalization."
Giggling at myself for that unintentional bisexual innuendo I just did.
Thanks for posting this! I totally had no idea about some of these, and I have a friend who has been struggling with submitting items due to the name so I'm going to let her know about this asap haha!
You big dork xD
That's why I thought a refresher was in order! It's been coming up more and more and really, it's such a SIMPLE thing that it's worth having everyone go over again :D
-book marks this for future reference- Because lord knows if any one needs this it is me haha.
One I've had an issue with in the past was that CWs can't have similar names to costume trunks or fashion lines already on site, like my originally had the word Popstar in it since it was a tribute to a J-Pop singer and I was told it sounded like a piece from the costume trunk so it had to be changed, maybe this should be added to the first post as well? I think that one get over looked a lot too, I had no idea until I was told.
