Thank you dear! I'm going to edit the first post with it :)
I can't find the other thread Jessi made regarding this, but I'm going to comment on this here as it's also mentioned in this thread.
This just doesn't feel right on just so many levels, I really don't know how or where to begin. I'm leaving a few points that really should be taken to heart:
1) English originated in England. The English language has been really changed in not so positive ways, and it's most apparent in the written and spoken American version. English was brought to America by the English who lived IN England. Why it was seen fit back in the day to change it from its origin is beyond me.
2) Forcing people to write in a way that may be foreign to them isn't right. So many people have learned how to spell things the original way - in English English. Forcing them to spend vast amounts of time online researching what's pure English and what's the American version is really cruel and unusual punishment. If it's in the dictionary, it should be acceptable on this site - despite the fact that this site is American. So there's an extra "u" in certain words, so there's a slightly different variant of spelling of others, so what if words like "recognise" or others that have a "zeeeh" sound is spelled with an "s" over a "z". What's the big deal? So it's a little different. It's in the dictionary, it's a legitimate word. This is especially frustrating if English isn't someone else's first language. If they've learned British (aka English) English, then they shouldn't be forced to learn yet another way of doing something.
If it's not written in French, German, Japanese or Swahili, AKA anything other than English, then the words written should be acceptable, despite their slight variations.
3) This brings nit-picking to a whole new terrible low. I can understand rejections if the art isn't right, but rejecting dictionary approved words, as mentioned in point 2, is just not cool.
Just because this site originated in America, doesn't mean that the language did. If someone's learned a certain way, they should be allowed to spell it in the way they've learned if there are no obvious written errors in either text or punctuation (something like, "Its totaly great" for example.).

As has been mentioned here already -- this isn't being posted on to be up for debate. It's a rule of the site and it's one that needs to be followed. If individual users don't like it, I'm sorry, but it's still a rule and still needs to be followed. It's been a rule the entire time, and it's not changing now. This was posted as a friendly reminder, because we are seeing a LOT of grammar, spelling, and other issues with item names and descriptions as of late. And as I already said, we are happy to change these, but lately we are needing to change at least 50% of the items that are accepted, and we will have to start denying for these issues. So either users need to make sure they are using American spelling, or they will have to deal with item denials. It's really that simple.
(and for what it's worth, if you are using an American version of say, MS Word, it WILL mark the British spellings of words as being wrong ;) Canadian English is also different from both American English and British English as it has similarities with BOTH.)
- Nothing is 'up' with it - they were missed. I'll go fix them right now :)
If you ever notice something like that, feel free to submit a ticket! We get to it a lot faster that way :) It's a SUPER easy fix (I already fixed it in fact!) once it's brought to our attention
[edit] I keep forgetting! FWIW, cause I've seen it mentioned - gray/grey is perfectly fine either way. Actually it's funny - our denial for grey artwork says "gray artwork" and then I force myself when leaving a note about it to spell it Gray to match the pre-set denial reason.
I'll keep an eye out! Though, those are the only ones I've noticed before.
I thought it was a real pain to change item info, have there been changes? Maybe I'm misremembering.
[edit] Every item here has instead of ' in the description?
Oh, no, it's not a pain itself - it's EASY to fix! What's a pain is having to accept 25 CWs and fix their names or descriptions every time ;)
Yeah, that's from a apostrophe glitch I think and affects both CWs and on-site items, though I think it hasn't happened for quite a while.
Ah, just the masses are tough. Strangely all the items in that search are CWs, but maybe it's not an accurate mirror. Are they fixable or is it not really an issue?
happens to have "armour" in the description.
Question, is there any timeline on fixing hyphens for submitted items? I have an item that looks awfully like a forget-me-not flower, and I was hoping to use that in the name. Looking here, I see I cannot. Forgetmenot doesn't look quite right, and something like, "Fluttering Forget Me Not Sprig" seems a bit overbearing...
