Hello, this is a dedicated thread for all book lovers! The ping group is, indeed, You may use this for anything that is literature related, for updating us on a new and interesting novel coming out, or for simply discussion.

All that I ask is that you lot remain civil and don't judge and criticize others for their tastes, because we all like what we like and there's no harm in that, no matter how much you may dislike it.

Enjoy!

It makes me sad this thread isn't getting any love! , what are you currently reading? I'm reading Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. Do you have a GoodReads account? If so feel free to add me! My GoodReads is goodreads.com/waxless.

Edit: I joined the ping group!

It is surprising though! Who doesn't enjoy a good book?!

Do you read books in book form or are you an ebook kind of person? I love my Kindle.

Finally taking the time to write something here ugh

I'm currently trying to get my hands on The Scorch Trial and Antigone. I need to check if my school library have them. They probably own the latter in French. @ arcadiae

That makes me feel a bit better. Though, I'm going to go see Guardians of The Galaxy today with my hubs, I'm sure he doesn't want to see a movie about a book he's never read.

Yaaaay, great forum topic and group! Hopefully more people will join the discussion :D I love pretty much ever genres except for modernist and post-modern. Sorrynotsorry James Joyce. :|

How great are kindles?! When they were first released, I was amazed by the now affordable price of books ... the complete Jane Austen for $2.99, omg. What a dream.

How did you like the movie today?

I figured I was going to like Guardians of The Galaxy going in but jesus, that was so amazing! Liked it so much more than I thought I would.

I like Kindle not only because of book prices but how easy it is to carry my books around with me and read on the go plus it's so much easier to hold and turn pages than regular books. The last book-book I read was Contact by Carl Sagan- it was when my Kindle screen died and I was waiting for Amazon to send me a replacement in the mail.

Have any of you read Brave New World by Aldous Huxley? I thought I would like it based the recommendations and ratings from my friends but I'm finding it a bit boring,

I just finished reading Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb, at the recommendation of someone I follow on Tumblr. It was free on Kindle, so it seemed like it would be rude not to, you know? As it turns out, I really enjoyed it, which is unusual for me because it's all first person and I'm not normally big into first person.

I'm sure will be pleased to hear I've just started on Cosmos by Carl Sagan now. Brave New World is somewhere on my agenda, as well -- I'm going to read it with a friend when she gets around to buying it.

Cosmos was amazing though I admit I am biased.

It seems there's a lot people on this site who enjoy fantasy/high fantasy, which I've never really been able to get into too much.

I go for high fantasy a lot because it's what I read when I was younger. The older I get the more willing I am to branch out into other genres, but when I'm stood in a bookstore with no idea of what to buy I gravitate naturally towards what I know and love. ❤️

What kind of stuff do you enjoy reading, then?

Lately I've been really into scifi & dystopian but I tend to be all over the place. I got into YA recently as well, which I never liked when I was a young adult myself, haha. There... may be something wrong with me.

Edit to add: been into apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic as well.

I really, really love my Kindle. I seriously don't think I'd be happy if I had to switch back to actual books for whatever reason. I love stumbling on a word I don't know the definition of and being able to touch it and see the meaning. I love being able to switch back and forth between different books, or finishing one while I'm out of the house and being able to start another without my purse weighing a ton. My husband and I share one but he doesn't read as much as I do. Still, I think I'm going to eventually surprise him with his own.

I was tempted to acquire one since I'm an avid reader and I found that books are expensive (even paperback). Which one do you have? Which one would you recommend? If your Kindle dies, can you keep the files?

I currently have the Kindle Paperwhite, upgraded from the Kindle Keyboard. I like the page turning better on the Kindle Keyboard (buttons instead of touch screen) but I like the option of blacklight and word-touch dictionary on Paperwhite, so I guess it depends. If you're a tablet-user and/or Internet junky you could get the Kindle Fire, which I never have used. One of my friends has a KF and just uses it for Internetting and still uses her basic Kindle for reading.

If your Kindle dies, your files are available on Amazon for redownload for no charge. I can delete books from my Kindle and redownload them if I decide to want to read them again.

Oh man, I struggle with YA fiction... I read the Hunger Games trilogy and that's about all I can stomach as far as YA goes. xD

I did quite recently (okay, it was last year, but whatever) go through a phase of being big into post-apocalyptic stuff, along the lines of Earth Abides and I Am Legend. Those are actually two of my favourite books and I mean to read them again as soon as I come by the means to buy them. I gave all my books to charity at the start of the year, which I kind of regret now. xD

While we're on the subject of the end of the world, my faaaaavourite book is The Road, by Cormac McCarthy. Have you read it? McCarthy has a distinctive and kind of difficult way of writing but it's the most beautiful, tragic and strangely uplifting thing I've ever read.

I actually think I may have a copy of The Road but have never actually picked it up. Maybe I will read this next! Maybe. I'm in a mood for a Harry Potter reread which I sometimes get in the mood for this time of year. It's been a few years since I read those so I might give in to the desire this time.
