This just inspired me to go read Angels & Demons, I'm on about page 90 or something. I had no idea it was the first Robert Langdon book!

What are you reading today? I just finished The Road by Cormac McCarthy and I'm spending this afternoon deciding what to read next.

How are you liking Angels & Demons so far? I enjoyed the Robert Langdon series so much but the last (Inferno) was definitely my favorite of them. I enjoyed all of Dan Brown's books though and would recommend any of them.

I just finished reading The Road- I appreciate you recommending it, I really enjoyed it. When I get around to rating & reviewing it on GoodReads I will be giving it five/five stars, for sure. I just finished watching the movie as well and enjoyed it just as much. The movie helped put a few things into perspective for me that my imagination just couldn't do on it's on- I underestimated how gray & desolate everything was. Very poetic, very heartbreaking. I would welcome any more recommendations from you.

I like it a lot I'm just bad at reading lately for some reason. I just don't take the time. I'm on about page 127 or something. I like how it crosses religion and science. I just really like Robert Langdon, it seems like he has Bond girls beside him in all of his novels. x)

I should read The Road, I wonder if it's on my goodreads list.

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you, I completely forgot... xD

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed The Road! A lot of the people I recommend it to don't enjoy it because of the lack of punctuation, but like you said, I think it makes it poetic in a kind of... I guess visceral way. Like the prose is beautiful but it hurts like a physical thing.

I think I saw the movie before reading the book, which helped in some respects because I already had a mental image, and the scope of the desolation was always right there at the front of my mind rather than being something I had to build up slowly.

As far as other recommendations go, I think Deathless by Catherynne M. Valente is the only other book I've enjoyed as much as The Road. It's another book that's very poetic, but in a very different way. It's almost obnoxious, almost embarrassing how delicious the prose is, and while I think it kind of loses track of itself and becomes difficult to follow occasionally, I also think it's definitely worth a read if you haven't already.

Hey :) I finished reading One Second After (2/5 stars- so poorly written it made me want to cry). And then I read Aristotle & Dante Discover the Secrets of The Universe to tickle my YA funny bone and I loved it (5/5 stars). Now I'm currently rereading Harry Potter & The Sorcerer's Stone because I always get the urge to read Harry Potter during the autumn... but this is my first time rereading it in years! Haven't decided if I'm going to read them all back to back or not.

Thanks for the other recommendations! I'll look them up and add them to my to-read list if I find them fascinating.

This is such a wonderful idea! I just finished The Rithmatist, which is absolutely adorable (although it's a very quick, simple read). It's lighthearted and cute, concerning both magic and math (mathmagicians, anyone?) though not what I typically read. On the other hand, my favorite book is House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski. It's so wonderfully insane, though not for those that aren't both patient and extremely fascinated by the idea of the unknown. It contains everything from jokes about airports to paragraphs on acoustic architecture to text that requires a mirror to read, and it's fantastic.

Uggh, Rithmatist! I hope you continue to read more of Brandon Sanderson's stuff. That one is considered a young adult novel, if I'm not mistaken, so his other works should be less... simple & quick.

I am still trying to read Gardens of the Moon since believed I'd already read them because of my username. ;) All the hype from fellow coworkers ("Errant is my favorite!") and now I've got to read 'em!

Guys, I work at a bookstore and I left the place an hour ago. I should be doing something entirely non-book related, haha

Most people either really like it or really hate it. XD He has a very "Here, keep track of this. shoves arms full of information" sort of style. I find I really like the story, but I'd still be tempted to hug him and then smack him if I met him. =0P

Aha, perhaps... My best friend really likes his work, so I might have to. I read a page or two from one of the ones he was reading, and I think it's just the writing style that makes it seem simple to me. The plot seemed intriguing enough that it might be worth reading, though. Any of his works that you'd particularly recommend? On another note, non-book related? That's no fun at all!

-- I mostly find his magic systems to be the most appealing. If you're into a standalone, I do recommend Warbreaker, but nothing beats the Mistborn trilogy. Don't even start on Way of Kings because he's only just published book two in The Stormlight Archive, but it promises to be so good.

Fangirl moment complete, but today is definitely the day for reading with endless cups of coffee, cooler weather and nothing to do but play on subeta and watch re-runs of NCIS and Law & Order, haha. -- I dragged you here, do you have any recommendations, or favorite series to gush over? :)

I have a thing for the Bitterbynde Trilogy by Cecelia Dart-Thornton (Minus the last twenty-ish pages or so). I am also a huge fan of the Symphony of Ages by Elizabeth Haydon. I love Harry Dresden and Rachel Morgan. I also enjoy the Sholan Alliance by Lisann Norman and Catspaw By Joan D. Vinge. ...So mostly fantasy, some sci-fi with a dash of bodice rippers when I'm in the mood. =0D

Those sound sufficiently strange, aha. I think it was a few pages of one of the Mistborn books that I read... In any case, thank you for the recommendations. (:

On another note, going through the old bookcase I found a rather interesting piece of political satire titled Parliament of Whores. I don't agree with some of the views, and it's a bit outdated, but it's hilarious even still, and raises some interesting questions.

-- That seems pretty legit! I enjoyed the Symphony of Ages as well, although I'm not sure if I ever finished them. I always wanted the girl to be with the poor assassin guy, I thought he was cool. XDD I enjoyed Jennifer Robersons Chronicles of the Cheysuli. I'll have to check out Cecilia Dart Thornton because I really like Juliet Marillier and the feel of those types of fantasy novels! (Harry Dresden, btw, is amazing. I've never finished those books, but the character reminds me of a friend, haha)

-- I work at a used bookstore and we come across some weird stuff when evaluating people's things they want to sell back to us! Even astrology books from the 60s can be weird when talking about the differences between gemini men and gemini women,..

I've read some of her Sevenwaters series. I enjoyed them, but haven't been back for more so to speak. You'd probably also enjoy the Glasswrights series by Mindy Klasky.
