So with the introduction of the Forum Shop, it made me start thinking about subeta's currencies. My first thought when I read that news post was "Jesus Christ, not another currency shop".
There are Seventeen currencies listed on my currency page. SEVENTEEN. And that doesn't include the points you get from the battle system for the battle shop (which idk why that's not on that page also). I mean, this shit is confusing to me and i've been here for like 7 years, I can't imagine how frustrating it is for a new user to understand. I still don't understand quest points at all and there are multiple quest shops. You're over-complicating an already relatively complicated economic system
Really, I think it's just overkill. Like, what is the point of all of these different currencies? What's wrong with having some of these things be sp based? I don't really have a suggestion other than fortheloveofgod stop adding currencies or non-sp-currency shops. I know I'm not alone on this one.

I'm sorry, I kind of like that it's all in one place with easy to access links and counts. That's just me.
Eh, I don't mind there being so many currencies. Also, I don't get why you don't get quest points. It's ... really simple. You sometimes get some points from doing quests which you can spend in the quest shops. That's it.
I agree, there are quite a lot of currencies. I'm pretty sure it was mentioned during the most recent Masquerade that next year they will probably make the Lounge and Menagerie tokens into just one token to be used in both shops.
I think it would also probably be a good idea to think about retiring the Pirate/Islander points and the EpiCON 2010 points (with a news post warning about retiring the points and a set date). Because honestly, it's been years since those events. If you haven't spent your points by now, are you ever going to spend them?
That would at least cut down on the amount of different currencies a little bit.
I like it as is, but having the permanently retired points (from one-time only events) in a separate section would be nice. The different currencies represent different ways to buy items around the site, which I think is a positive feature.
[edit] But seriously. The people who don't mind so far have been people who have been here for a long ass time, for the most part. Like, if you started playing a game and then realized there were like 20+ damn currencies with which to buy things, some of which you can purchase with the "main" currency, some of which you can't. Like, that's hella ridiculous.
Hmm..Maybe if subeta would introduce a options at the top as a tab and have you be able to choose which ones to see? I agree with that some should retire and maybe have set notice to them retiring as there is no way to obtain points for them anymore.
It gives the points randomly. Most quests have a small chance of giving you a quest point. You can spend these points at any of the quest points shops. Each quest which has a shop has a link to the quest shops hub. From there you can visit any of the different quest shops.
There's nothing wrong with a 'randomly occurring' currency, imo. It's just an added bonus for doing quests.
If I were to join a new game and see a ton of currencies I would learn about them. Maybe I'm in the minority but I'd do a bit of research into it. Every game has some form of a help site, wiki, etc. Or, there's usually forums or some form of chat where I could ask people. Yes, some people might be turned off but I doubt there'd be many that would be. For most, the bunch of different currencies isn't a big deal. They'll either learn about them or they won't. Most they don't need to worry about unless they really want to get invested in the game.
Seriously, though, I think most people would either read about them or ask...
I think I would have liked it better if raffle tickets became "redeemable" in the same way MCs are: you click to use it, then you're presented with a choice of items and can take your pick of one. Pool could be rotated every few months / several months / yearly, depending on how frequent RTs events would be. yay killing the random factor of it!
The way it is, especially with things costing so much in that shop, I worry the items will be either unattainable OR raffle tickets will become a common occurrence... and I like the thought of keeping them rare enough that you go "yay!" instead of "darn, another one of those things".
[edit] Late edit: However, I don't mind plot currencies, I definitely think plot points/shops are the way to go and it could be nice to reuse them later for a plot sequel. I'm not sure we can get away from every event having its currency (not without getting into a huge mess), but it's probably nice to try not adding more new ones... whenever possible.
It is a bit of overkill to look at but I don't think it's really that huge of a deal. I mean I'd rather get shops with points I can choose how to spend then just given random prizes during events as was a huge issue with the last event. At least they're all organized nicely with links and everything
I don't mind tbh. All the currencies have a use, and while some are outdated, being from plots and things, I still like having plot points in addition to the regular currency shops we have.
I don't mind this but I wish we could have the option to hide the currencies we don't use, that way there's less clutter. There's a few I know I'll never use (or we most likely won't ever see like the islander/pirate points. So yeah to hide the ones we have no use for would be nice.
Haha, I had thought to myself the other day that there was a surplus of different currencies but I thought it might have just been me.
I see the relevance of all of the currencies and (I think) phasing them out would just cause issues (maybe? Such as old people coming back and finding their currencies gone?), so I don't know what anyone could do about it at this point aside trying not to add even more to the site, which is especially difficult when most people (myself included) seem to prefer prize shops and such for events.
Even removing older events/currencies from the list wouldn't do too much to reduce the numbers as most of the currencies are related to yearly events.
Over all, I don't go to the page enough for it to really bother me, haha.
The reason for currencies is really simple. We need them to continue having carrots to get you to play. If everything cost sP, people who've been playing for years could purchase them immediately on release, and go back to whatever else they were doing.
Instead, we release features that have currencies (Quest points, for example) that require you to complete a task (quests, participate in a plot, post on the forums) that is an activity that we want to promote, and that is the only way that you'll get those items. OR users who are doing those tasks will buy them and be able to sell them at an advantage to themselves to the people with sP/CSC.
If currencies on that page are confusing maybe better communication on that page as to where they come from would be handy, but as it stands new currencies (and existing ones) are an excellent gaming mechanic for us.

I'm new and I don't understand all the currencies yet. I get the quest points, that's easy enough and I think I like those but I haven't spent any yet. Guess I'll hoard them for a while until I know what to buy.
I wasn't here for any of the plots so I'll never get any of those and that makes me a little sad, but I'm a noob anyways.
The ones I'm not sure about though are the recycle points and the crystals. You have to essentially give away items which you could sell for sP for those so essentially you're buying those points with sP anyway... I don't really understand that at all.
I do like the quest points and wizard tokens though. I'm all about that Carnival! And I love that you can play them like every 12 minutes. Though, I admit they keep me on here a LOT longer than I usually would be. Just have to wait for one more, lol.

I don't have any issue with the currencies we have and how long the list is so far. I do think that maybe a bit of an explanation about how to obtain some of them would be helpful to newer players though.

With recycling/crystals you're basically gambling that the items you spend to get the points have less value total than the item(s) you get from the point shop. IE, turn in 50K sp worth of cheapo items to make enough points for something that can resold for 100k sp.
