so I work at a kohl's. and around the holidays we hire 461943 new people. the people hired for registers this year refuse to do anything. they've been here for like a month and act like no one can tell them how to do their job.

they stand in front of a folds table that looks great and chit chat. but when you direct them to a table that looks like a disaster they literally ignore you cause they don't think it's their job or something.

I've been told by 5 different new people "I haven't been told that" (IM FUCKING TELL ING YOU) and "but that's not my mess" WOW who the fuck cares princess

do your job and do it right or well all be stuck here longer cause you're fucking lazy

that I'd actually all the time I have since I'm on a break rn. yeah I've talked to a manager who took this information seriously <3

ANYONE WORK RETAIL? deal with annoying coworkers around the holidays or year round?? VENT.

I really don't have an issue where I work, since we're a small interdependently owned store. There is this one staff; however, who thinks she's God's gift to the working world. She doesn't get in trouble for anything and she blames everyone else for when she messes up and we get in trouble. I've only heard of one account of her treating a frequent customer badly (I haven't seen them since) and she grabbed some kids shoulder telling him that skinny pigs are not ugly.

Oh no, I don't think I couldn't handle a turnout like that :( A lot of randos coming into work would be super awkward for me, it takes me so long to adjust to new coworkers. . I guess at least maybe after the holidays they'll be gone?

I work as a student graphic designer for my university's dining system and so I only work with the upper management. I'm literally the only person working there who hasn't graduated college yet and since they're all full-time and me part-time they're all a part of this tightly knit little group. I only work like 12 hours a week so I'm hardly ever there anyway but I hate that everyone basically ignores me at work because they either look down on me or have no idea who I am. My 'boss' basically is the marketing director and she's super gross + treats me like I'm her servant. One time she broke a nail and made me dig around the floor to find it YUCK

Wow. What a bunch of bums. They obviously don't need a job that bad...

I work at Starbucks and it just so happens to be located in a mall. Holy mother of shit. People are so disgusting and rude. Nobody throws their trash away, they're the most impatient (sorry theres like 15 cups ahead of you, so no I can't grab your damn water), and just ahhh. And the most frustrating thing is when we're closing and the doors open, there are people in the cafe and they ask 'Are you still open?' Did you just walk through that door? Did I turn to you and say sorry we're closed? ARE THOSE DOORS LOCKED? THEN NO WE"RE STILL OPEN TO SERVE YOU even though we close in like 15 min. >:| Or, when I'm mopping and they go, 'sorry to dirty your floor'. No you're not, so don't even try to pretend you are. AND when they go, sorry I hate to be that person that comes in right before close. Ummmmmmm, then don't???

Yeah, frustration. I dislike people so much once I'm off work. XD No patience. LOL

Yes I know that feeeeeling, can't wait for the billions of poorly-trained temps to finally get let off after Christmas and have a nice empty warehouse again. I will miss some of them though.

On one hand I like not working in frontline retail, because y'know, customers. On the other hand, it means all sorts of weirdos, rude bastards and people who don't speak English barely at all can be employed. And half of them are too thick to realise that because of my position there, being on my good side is a huge benefit.

What I don't like is the airport style security I have to go through four times a day and the fact my contract waives the 48-hour working week limit. But oh well, working for Amazon is not as bad as the negative publicity would suggest.

I'm working at Macy's for the holiday season and I bust my ass every shift. All the regular staff love me. I have no problems going out onto the floor and doing recovery and what not. The main thing I really hate about the job are coupons. Macy's sends out a shit ton and a half of coupons and they don't even work half the time. Than you have an angry customer with a fist full of coupons that don't work and you aren't sure why and they get angrier at you. Because yelling at me is really going to help.

I also really hate when Macy's tells us to push people without Macy's cards to get one. I'll ask and if the customer says no, I drop it. I'm not going to force someone to sign up for a credit card when I don't even have one.

@ everyone yeah i know we all wish we could speak our minds to these annoying customers. i could go on for days about the littlest things that annoy me.

one day i want to apply & get a job i dont need just for the hell of it, so i can be rude and tell customers off and see how long i last :x lol

we have to do that too and i used to really hate it too, now i'm in the top 10 credit earners YTD for our store. lol, idk how that happened. i'm the same way as you though... if they say no i might say "do you know its gonna be x dollars off today?" and i drop it after. i heard one lady threaten to leave her stuff at the register and go because one of my coworkers wouldnt shut up about it (which really is what were supposed to do)

seriously i'm not about to sign up someone to possibly get into debt and an extra monthly payment. no one needs another monthly expense.

i think the main problem with these new people is they are all 18-20 yrs old, a few of them this is their first job. (i was 20 when i started but i was fully aware of the fact i dont know how the store works and as a new person at any place you need to be open to correction & direction if you want to carry your weight) thank you for being aware of the fact you are there to do a job!!!!!!!

I work in retail and thankfully we didn't get a lot of bad new hirers this season. Mostly surprised because our store was 40+ people understaffed and we were in desperate need of people. Got a few high schoolers who work really hard and then just one that stands around and doesn't seem to know what she is doing. Which, honestly, I don't blame her since we weren't 'allowed' to properly train the seasonal hirers (since near all but three, so far, will be let go come their 90 days). Wish they had hired more cashiers though because it's gotten to the point where they isn't anyone on the floor to answer customers questions. It is what it is though!

Holiday season hasn't been all too bad this year where I work... The only complaints I have had lately of is our ESTL cannot do any part of her job anymore it seems since she's too busy about being promoted. Haha.

I heard there was a lady in another store who wouldn't let customers leave without opening a card. I would leave the store and go some where else and never go back if she was ringing me up. I can't afford to have a credit card nor do I want one.

I agree. A lot of the younger people think they are owned something. We all have to work our asses off and so do they.

I complain about not having a job. I have no experience, but all of the jobs ask for experience. Really? How am I going to get experience if I need to have experience in order to get hired? Ugh.

Macy's here too (not seasonal, worked last summer and had to quit for family reasons though,) and oh my god, tell me about it with the coupons! I mean, a lot of times it's really great that they send out so many because it saves people a lot of money, but I work in housewares and the coupons are never clear enough that electrics and small appliances are exempt from -EVERY- coupon. I'll tell a customer this and they'll grab another one from their purse to try... :x

Idk if this is across all Macy's but my supervisors make a big deal out of making it work, if the coupon would make the sale for the customer to take it off manually, and that leaves me with a lot less angry customers, though housewares shoppers are on average pretty chill. Juniors', though? What a nightmare. It's all middle aged women who seemed to have stopped emotionally/socially aging at 16.

The coupons are the worst. I also work in housewares and people throw shit fits over the coupons not working. I was a ringer in women's shoes today and we didn't have any coupons behind the register. A lady bought a pair of shoes from the clearance for $12. She asked if I had any coupons and I said, "Not today, sorry". She responded with, "come on girl, you gotta help a sister out." I wanted to put my head down after that. And my only thought was, "I don't have to do anything for you. Your shoes cost $12". My supervisors are really nice. They don't force us to do anything.

And that damn shoe clearance rack. "Do you have this in a 8 1/2?" "No. What you see is what you we have" "Well can you check anyway? And do you have it in black?" "No. It's on clearance for a reason."

I worked in juniors last week (I was hired to work housewares but I pick up a lot of extra shifts because I need the money). You got that right. One lady wanted a pair jeans in size 16. True story.

Oh and today, I went to the bathroom and in my store, you have to go through lingerie. I was walking through and this guy stopped me and asked, "where are your granny panties?" And he was serious.

I work at a Pier 1 Imports and while the other employees I work with are awesome there are just days. My manager likes to change our schedule assuming we don't have anything planned and then expects us to drop everything around us and do their bidding. It's also irritating when we're helping a customer and they migrate to a different zone ( The store is divide into zones ie: Zone 3 - Dining ect.) is getting fussed at for not being in zone assigned in because of helping the customer that was needing assistance previously.

Yeah, they don't make us do it, it's more encouraged than not, but oooh my god was there ever a way to soothe an angry customer. Honestly, though, people are nasty but I really think corporate sticking a line of text that said the coupons don't work on electrics on the front of the damn things would actually help sales. Most people who come up to the register with a K-cup machine and a coupon in hand won't even buy it at full price if they find out the coupon doesn't work.

We got most of our crazies (the people who bring like 7 of the knock off magic bullet blenders to the register and put all but one back when they find out they only get one mail in rebate per family) on black friday but i did have one woman a couple days ago who was the most entitled, passive-aggressive jerk i've had the pleasure of helping in Housewares. (Uhh, lady, I don't care if you think the other store 5 minutes away is better... but why not take the extra 5mins to drive there instead of complaining about how much more experienced they are? Other customers have said they're also not as nice or helpful so...)

lmao what. it's your responsibility to track down and keep your own coupons.

a lot of customers ask me "can you look up if i have any coupons in your computer?" LOL. oh.. youre serious?? oh my god i cant imagine how pissed off people would be if they knew we were keeping a database of their full name, email, and address just so we could know what coupons have been sent to them. youd have to be pretty naive to think a company is trying to save your money for you. i have to keep myself from laughing at the people who ask this.

i'm a cashier. my computer has software so i can process your merchandise and take your money. tha'ts about it.

I gotta admit i feel for those of you who work in the home decor dept. Around this time of year there are a lot of breakable ornaments around. they drive me crazy i can only imagine what its like to be around them all day. I know I couldnt work any floor area. you have to bend down too much for my liking and clean up after messy/inconsiderate people. gotta admit that being on the register is pretty cushy compared to that.

My store mangers push us to change the price if something doesn't ring up properly. This one lady brought a kid's jacket to women's shoes today and told me it was 75% off. It didn't feel right but she seemed like one of those people who would throw a shit fit and demand a manager if I didn't mark it down. I asked one of the regulars and she said, "go ahead". Now that I'm sitting here thinking about, I wish I had called children's and asked. Hindsight is always 20/20. Most of the people in my store are really nice and friendly and customers notice it.

And I've had that happen too with the fake magic bullets (and a ton of other stuff). They usually want to use a coupon and when I tell them it doesn't work and I ring it up and show them, they don't want it.

I've worked in retail for 2 years at Walgreens and tonight's my last shift there. I don't have too many complaints coworker wise- they were really lazy at the first store I worked at, but at my current store they're all really nice and work to the best of their ability (a lot of them are 60+ yrs old and not in the best physical state). My main problems are the customers and the store manager because god they're both just fucking awful.

Since I moved to this store 5 months ago, I've had three customers go off on me for doing my job (one of the instances was bad enough that Adam, the shift lead on duty that night, had to take me into the office for 30 minutes and try to calm me down because I couldn't stop freaking out & crying). My store manager, Mike, didn't show me any appreciation since I've been there, up until I put my two weeks notice in. He just doesn't seem to see any of the employees there as anything other than the shifts he can have us work, which is why the morale at that store is low enough that all the employees except for Mike and some of the people in the pharmacy absolutely hate the job and dread every shift they have. Like yeah, I get that it's a business and all, but he could at least acknowledge that people have lives outside of the store and that a little 'thank you' goes a long way.

There's so much more I could complain about like the stupid company-wide policy changes, but I'm just going to stop here since it'd take me too long to go into all of them. ><

I work in retail right now and I'm actually a holiday hire but have the opposite problem; the old staff doesn't fucking do anything. It sucks on both ends. I can't believe how dirty the store is when I come in sometimes... and I was in a (minor) car accident last night and I'm supposed to close tonight and I'm not at allll looking forward to it. At least I work at a store that I love. :( For now, if they even keep me. Hopefully they will, but who knows.

Oh and let me just ice the cake and say that my direct deposit hasn't gone through and of course nobody cares. So I'm missing $400 worth of paychecks right before Christmas. Awesome.

I work in the customer support for two different energy suppliers. In one project (the huge supplier, 5 million customers), I usually get insulted, the costumers are cocky and sometimes I don't understand them and I have to ask a thousand times. In the other project (tiny supplier 25k customers), I get rarely calls and my boss allowed me to read books between the calls. And when I get calls, the customers are always nice.

Guess where I prefer to work more :P

I'm a seasonal employee where I work and sometimes I feel like I'm being taken advantage of because of it. I don't mind when my TLs ask me to do tasks that they're supposed to finish, because hey, they actually hold authority over me and they usually only ask me to put a cart of reshop away (which takes maybe 15 mins) or help them with their zones towards the end of my shift. What I can't stand is when my coworkers will order me around to do their job. If they asked nicely for me to help them, I'd gladly jump in. The problem is that a few in particular will literally tell me that I need to go work on their zone because they're "busy and won't get done on time" (because, go figure, they spent a whole hour talking to each other about their kids and husbands) or that I need to watch the phones because they conveniently decide to take their lunch/break as soon as I start my shift.

It's frustrating because I feel like I'm always willing to help other people finish up their zones and whatnot, but one or two times when I'm falling behind (usually a result of doing someone else's work for 2 hours and only having 4 hours to finish my areas), I don't receive any assistance. Instead, I get yelled at for not setting a good example to the employees that I'm training-- oh yeah, did I mention I've been there for 2 months yet I'm training the new people because my coworkers are too lazy to do it?

The main problem is that, for some reason, my TLs are usually scheduled 8 am - 3 pm. I come in around 3 or 4 PM and work until 11 PM, so I hardly ever see them. If a TL isn't there, everyone is basically on their own. The TL will create a list telling each employee their zones for the night. Other than that, nobody really watches over us. All of the executive TLs and managers are at guest services or around the toys area since it's by far the busiest area. Since I'm so new I feel as if I bring anything up with the management then I'll just be branded as the whiny snitch.

Retail is turning out to be really shitty. :/
