being a seasonal employee is horrible. I fucking hate it, everyone disrespects you and laughs in your face - and what's funny is they're (usually) paid the same salary and sometimes I think it's just because they're threatened by possibly new and better help. My advice is to pull some of them aside if you need to and just politely say that you're willing to help out when needed but you have your own tasks to accomplish. Anyway, the holiday season is almost over!
I currently work at an animation studio that one of my old art teachers owns. He is super nice and I love working with him but ugh its such a dictatorship. He runs the studio and myself and three guys work for him helping him on his projects, filming, drawing, building- whatever we need to do. It's fun it really is but he works us so hard and such strange hours. Sometimes I go a full week and a half with nothing then will stay there for over 24 hours, sleeping in chairs or on set for a skit.
i worked at an amusement park haunted house during halloween and it was such hell, everyone who works there has always hated it except for the people who are in costume
it seems like almost EVERYONE!!! who comes to these sorts of things has made it their life mission to cause trouble. they're drunk, high and want to DESTROY EVERYTHING! people break props, try to steal them, try to ATTACK everyone working there or each other. there are people who come to the park and act like they're completely unamused. they dropped like 70 bucks just to act like a punk. once these kids threw a cup at a gay couple. there were signs that said NO PHONES!!! and yet i had to stop 42934039 people a day. other employees would just let them walk past with their phone out but it was cathartic for me to scream "NO PHONES!!!!!!" at douchebags
the people i worked with were fine except for this horrible guy who kept singing (when we were explicit told we couldnt use real words in our attraction) and calling the guests UGLY! he eventually quit but bc of loopholes he can come back next year. also it was TOO COLD!!
I work at a major drugstore and I hate 95% of the people employed there. I've been at the same store for almost six years and oh God. The place is a middle school. Everyone runs their mouth about everyone else and it's so stupid. I transferred to overnights and so now I only regularly talk to a handful of people, only two outside of work. It's better this way.
I've almost exclusively worked in retail. I'm currently at Hot Topic and I don't have too many complaints about the company itself, other than that they pay us a pittance and I ask myself every day why I don't just work there for free lmao
Seriously though whoever designed those dumb stores has never had to work in one. They are TALL. There's merch that's practically on the ceiling and it's such a pain in the ass to move around and get down and we re-arrange that junk every few weeks
Everything in the store is metal or wood and wants to stab you s2g watch out for those baskets that the shirts are on, FOR REAL, I just got stabbed by one the other day and it sucked
Mostly the people are cool even which is saying something but when theyre bad, they are SO BAD. People shoving half-empty coffee cups into my hands going "Do you have a trash back there thanks....." and walking away before I can answer. Yeah, I do have a trash back here. It's me. Just hand me your trash and I'll eat it. Do you need me to button your coat and tie your shoes, too, precious flower??? Or people who don't understand how coupons work and stuff. I had one lady BEG me screaming to let her use a hot cash coupon that wasn't valid for months, and she wound up pleading with me because "I only make $10 an hour!" I was like "I know, I make $7." and she just went "oh" and walked away.
My most favorite? Bronies. ALWAYS awkward.
I love my coworkers though. Most of them. The one I liked the least is gone and the seasonal ones are mostly teenagers so they're just funny to me, one was saying the other day that it's almost her 16 and a half birthday and all us 20-somethings were like.... awww sweetie
I just started a new job at a dog daycare, and so far, I really don't have any complaints, other than sometimes it feels like I don't really do too much except sit around and watch the dogs, but I guess that's pretty minor to complain about considering what I've read on here... good lord.
Oh my god, I could never work at Starbucks. The nonsense that you guys have to put up with is absolutely ridiculous. My friend worked there for a while and she hated it. I think it would take all my strength not to punch people in the face.
LOL It's so funny. Since I posted that, it's officially been decided I'm putting in 30 days notice because it was to stressful and not the career path I want to go down. XD It's actually really ridiculous how people over a cup of coffee AND how much they're willing to spend. omg. By the time they finish adding all their shots, and pumps and soy milk, it's like a $6 - $8 drink... :|
Watching dogs all day, sounds like my kinda job. ;D If I could just watch customers all day...hee hee.
Well, good for you! And yeah, I can't believe the stuff some people order, and then god forbid the barista has to call out the name of the person and what they ordered, haha! I remember going there once and I couldn't believe how complicated this woman's drink was.
Yeah, it's a lot of fun, except with some dogs, they just don't quite know how to contain their excitement, so you get jumped on, and chewed on, and slobbered on, and some dogs like to walk between your legs when you're walking, or they eat your hair, or pull on your t-shirt/whatever other fabric you happen to be wearing. Needless to say, my bruises had bruises at the end of my first week, haha!
omg. That sounds like working at a daycare. o-o Time for timeout. ;) LOL
Yeah, and it's bad if like you don't know how to call out their name. Talk about awk. I think the biggest bug is when people don't come and get their drinks when called OR when then they're like, is this my drink? I don't know? Is your name on it? Are you Emily? No? Then, no it's not. duh. LMAOOOO.
I work as a hostess in an upscale restaurant and while 9/10 customers are lovely and I enjoy chatting with them, we always have a few that are fucking horrible. We have a notoriously long wait at our restaurant since 1) we're "fancy" or w/e and 2) we only have 18 tables, which is VERY small for any restaurant. So on a weekend night our wait can get up to 2 hours which is literally not my fault at all, but people decide to take their frustrations out on me. Since we are a more expensive/fancy place a lot of the customers we get are very entitled and think they are too special to wait like everyone else. I've been offered money to get people into the restaurant faster which imo is really disrespectful because it's like... your $20 bill is not worth more than the paycheck I get every week bye.
I had one guy come up to me after I quoted him an hour and say "are we going to get our table TODAY?" and I was just like??? I quote people a time and then they get upset that they like... actually have to WAIT the time I quoted. Or they'll beg and ask "is there anything you can do?" when I literally have ZERO control... I'm not going to rush people who are in the restaurant eating to get up and leave, contrary to what people might think. My coworkers are overall really great and make the job worth it, but customers expect magic from me. I've been called mean, annoying, rude, etc. because I'm the one who bears bad news to customers that they have to wait. But if it was so important to people I don't know why they don't bother to make reservations ahead of time? It blows my mind.
Never work in a restaurant if you don't have to v_____v especially as a hostess.
normally i really like where i work but lately it's been so shitty. i work at a five below, so basic retail.. but for seasonal i was on overnight crew with my favorite coworker/manager/friend, which meant breaking down up to 10 pallets a night, putting out merchandise, etc. was getting usually 40+ hours a week, and making a dollar per hour more than i was normally. it was really hard work but i enjoyed it a whole lot.
hooooowever our gm has been a fucking moron all season. the schedule is supposed to be up by tuesday. the past few weeks he's waited until friday afternoon to do it, and makes mistakes on it almost regularly. he leaves us huge lists of things to do in addition to freight, as if we don't have enough to do as it is. he doesn't let anyone purge the back room during the day because he claims they're "too busy".. and he's supposed to close at least one night every week, just like every other manager and keyholder, but he never fucking does. all this week he's opened. he hasn't closed in ages. for five weeks in a row he scheduled one keyholder closing shifts friday-monday. my fav manager that was doing overnights, he starts back to daytime shifts this weekend. on his first daytime shift, he's closing on saturday. but our gm claims to be all about "equality" among everyone. plus corporate has continually cut our hours over the past few months so there's never enough employees working at any given time. and most of the people i liked working with are gone. aside from a few managers, i'm one of the i think.. three people? that have been working here since last year. i don't know anyone so going back to daytime is gonna suck lmao. i'm not looking forward to having to deal with shitty customers again and i'll prob be getting 20 or less hours a week haha ._____.
Aw man, yesterday was the worst. Everyone kept yelling at me because coupons weren't working even though everything in the store was on sale or doorbusters. There was one guy who belittled me so much, I almost told him to shove the coupon up his ass. I was so angry!
Ah, I heard it was mostly gonna be returns since it was the 26th but that's nuts @ I've been on new psych meds (off them now haha) and the night before I couldn't sleep so... I woke up on one hour of sleep feeling awful and called in since 8hours of work on one hour of sleep would've been impossible. Guess I was lucky in a sense.
I had a lot of exchanges yesterday. There were a lot of people buying items, like bed spreads and pots and pans because they were so cheap.
I called in on Christmas Eve because I woke up with a migraine and could barely open my eyes much less move. I think it was my body telling me to stop since I had worked 6 straight days, 7 1/2 hour shifts.
i feel sorry for anyone who works retail, i could never deal with terrible customers on such a regular basis.
i work in a gym on my college campus and it's actually cool. my boss is chill and my coworkers only bother me sometimes. my only complaint is that it's terribly boring most of the time.
Yeah, I tend to space my shifts out so that doesn't happen, but I'm also living with my mom, so my paycheck money is mostly for leisure items, video games, new clothes, stuff for my kitchen when I eventually move out... (I don't drive either, so, no gas yet.)
I know it gets crazy for the people who take a ton of shifts, esp around the holidays. Can't wait for people to finally calm down.
Most of my paychecks go to gas and basic items. I worked a lot of shifts because I wanted a lot of money for New Years Eve. I always spend the night with my best friend and we go out for dinner and breakfast.
Yeah, I need to save up some cash to pay my mom back, since I was waiting on paychecks to buy christmas presents for my friends, so now that the hecticness of the holidays is over and I got my medicine situation worked out for the time being I'm gonna take more shifts.
And that sounds fun! I hope you two have a good time. I don't have anything planned, eheh.
I was hoping to save some money but I got paid so little, I doubt I will be able to.
I'm glad you got your medicine situation worked out. I know how much of a pain that can be.
And thanks. I'm super excited because I haven't seen my best friend in a long time.
I work retail in a used bookstore and I certainly am one of those people so very happy that Christmas is finally over. Most people can't imagine how I'd acquire my bookstore blues, but when you work retail, customers will complain about anything. I have small pet peeves, but honestly, my biggest work complaints are probably similar to anyone else's! I definitely hate having coworker problems, but customer problems are a way of life, I guess? I hate people who don't abide by closing time, [b]especially[b] on holidays (grumblegrumble) and the customer didn't get their shopping done on time! I also just generally despise the laziness and grossness I encounter on the daily. I don't expect you to necessarily put your books back on the shelf, but you shouldn't leave trash everywhere either! ... and theft in general, especially (once again) during the holidays! I can't imagine selling stolen goods, much less wrapping it up and giving it to your family for Christmas! :O
