It's a fun idea and the prizes are nice.
Criticism. The event is only until 17th November and we have to collect 1000 points for all the Solo prizes. I'm in the UK and the event started on the 28th October after I'd left for the night. This means I missed out on a day because I live in a different time zone. I won't be the only player outside the US affected by this.
It's a nice item sink to reduce circulation ? But starting the event with a rotation that is bringing more items seemed weird to me so I'm glad they have found something interesting. I'm only really doing it for the book prize, which is welcomed !
The artificial inflation is what's making me scratch my head but okay. I'm not paying whatever price users deign fit for gourds just because someone wants to hoard for whatever step of the personal/community achievements.

I think it's a really fun idea! Having both community and individual prizes is awesome, and being able to pick the order of your own prizes is a killer idea!
I do think having a little more time would be nice, since it would take 20 days of composting 50 items to reach the 1000 item solo goal. Meaning you have to be able to compost 50 items every day the compost heap is open to attain that. Even an extra 3 - 5 days would help. Granted, maybe the point is to make it difficult for everyone to reach the top solo prize? Which is both frustrating and makes sense lol. I think the slightly frustrating part is compensated for by being able to pick the order of your individual prizes, so at least you're pretty much guaranteed to get the 1 - 2 items you want the most! I think Keith also said (I could be wrong) that you could choose a prize more than once? Which is also super cool, especially for things like books or food that people may need more than one of.
There are also 17 pages of items that can be composted, and pretty much all the items we've been getting from TOTing and the Patch are eligible which is a big help! Plus the floating pumpkins. I think the addition is hard in the sense that there are already several things to do with the items, so we have to pick and choose a bit. But I think that's also part of the long-term engagement for the site - people have something different to do each year so it's not 100% repetitive.
Honestly I love this idea and hope that we see even more solo / community activities (and plots!) going forward.
It's a lot of fun, but dang we already hit the community goal in under 24 hours. Pretty cool. Can we get more goals added then I wonder?

I enjoy it! I personally don't mind the large individual goals, with the caveat that this composting system returns for future events/holidays. I'd rather gradually build up points, personally, rather than scramble to get all the things every event. I very, very casually play subeta.
I'll jump in with some of our takeaways after a day in!
This was really fun for us, it's a use of a bunch of interlocking features on kumos (item pools, the item selection screen, the 24 hour timer and usage count, etc) that we'll be able to make greater and greater use of as we build on!
💖 ✨ 🤗
I'm really enjoying this feature! Barring the early hiccups, it seems to be going pretty well. I also LOVE collecting forum titles, so seeing that pack of them made me super excited. 😆 One thing I would like to see, if not for this run, for future ones, is an indicator of what we've already claimed please? : D Like, under each prize I would love to see "You've claimed this prize X time(s)". Not needed for the prizes that we can only claim once obviously, but for the individual goal prizes where we can take more than one of each. Really small thing, especially if item hovers are added and I can just click account search, but it saves me the trouble of opening a new tab to check!
There're almost 2k items to choose from, and plenty of them are still under 5k sP. Unless you're already a very minimalist person, there are probably hundreds of them sitting in your vault (general 'You', not you specifically!), so I don't see this as an issue in the long run. Especially considering some of the available items are ones that are currently being distributed in large quantities.
I think this is a fun a little thing but I think that:
a) some more breathing room would be nice, especially if we have to acquire items to compost (though there are several nice users out there that willing to help!).
b) there could a bit better navigation. There's a link to the prize page but not a link to get back to the main page, for example.
c) an indicator like suggested would be really nice! I also don't know what you plan on doing for hovers on Kumos is, but I would like to see wardrobe previews while staying on the prize page.
the game (?) itself is good though. now if I only hadn't procrastinated so long on the pumpkin achievements it would be a lot easier for me xp

Thank you for the new feature! I appreciate subeta in general and also trying new features to keep things fresh and interesting. : ) I'll mention a couple things below i'm struggling with on the new feature. Don't get scared by the paragraph; I'm just trying to explain lol:
My big complaint is that on the page that says "These are the items that the Recycle Beast will take for composting in 2024", there is a lot of chaos. First, if you try to use the Max Price option to sort, it literally does not work. It's simply broken. There are also no item hovers on this page, making all the items even more difficult to price, and let's be real, sorting by price is probably what people want to do. Nothing is alphabetized, so it's also hard to figure out where you are in attempting to sort out which items you have combed through. It's kind of like I'm staring at thousands of unsorted items that don't have a way to become sorted or be priced/looked up easily?
I'm also assuming this will be cleaned up, but the page alignments are a bit wonky. All the item images are falling out of their background squares and going into neighboring squares, and then text is going underneath the squares and getting cut off.
It reminds me of the Faerie Festival - I do like that we can only donate specific items instead of any filler we have in our vaults.
This is so much better than the pumpkin deleter achievement. I'm really excited to see how this adds new stuff to do for future holidays, too.
Posted this in the discord, I suppose I'll post it here as well:
Seeing how much the prices for some of the items on the composting list have gone up is reminding me why I thought we were moving away from these types of events that encourage people to hoard stuff (like the item drives and reading drives of old). I get that it's an easy way to try to drive engagement, but it also has the effect of punishing people who don't keep a lot of junk. And if you buy the items to participate, it's not even really an sP sink since that sP is not being removed from the system but just being redistributed to other users. On top of that, we already know that the floating pumpkins are used during Fireside to give to Fantine, so now we have at least two different events that we need to save them for (and possibly even 3 since I've seen Amber mention already they're planning on maybe doing composting again during Fireside). And I'm aware that the floating pumpkins are not the only items that can be donated, but they are the easiest ones to get for free right now if you haven't been hoarding a bunch of unneeded stuff over the years.
I can see how on one hand it does result in a decent amount of unnecessary items being removed from the site, but on the other hand it encourages hoarding of those items in the first place because people won't want to delete or frag things that may be asked for in these events in the future. So it ends up feeling like you are simultaneously creating the solution and the problem.
And even though yeah I've been playing here for over a decade at this point, I guess I'm one of the weird people on this site who doesn't just keep everything I've ever obtained, but I really don't like having a lot of junk in my vault and such just because. But if events like this are going to be a common thing from now on then maybe I should. I won't really be happy about it though...
Positives:
I like the event a lot, but I would also love if more of the Morostide opponent loot could be included.
Ones I noticed aren't compostable: Blueberry Punkin Dunker Chocolate Punkin Dunker Lime Punkin Dunker Orange Punkin Dunker Raspberry Punkin Dunker Strawberry Punkin Dunker Vanilla Punkin Dunker Blue Raspberry Ultra Bubble Gum Cinnamon Ultra Bubble Gum Grape Ultra Bubble Gum Spearmint Ultra Bubble Gum Lemon-Lime Fester Feather Strawberry Fester Feather Green Apple Grin Red Apple Grin Candy Corn Candy Corn Freeze Pop Mystery Ridiculously Juicy Fruit Chews Pumpple Pumpkat Nocticlop Pinekin
Other foods they give out that aren't strictly Moro items: Severed Evil Tentacle Spider Soup Can of Worms Tooth Decay Pellets Harvested Chunk of Liver Harvested Congealed Blood Harvested Length of Intestine Harvested Lung Piece Stuffed Stomach
Just so people can maximize the compostable items they're getting from battling :D It's a good way to get additional items if they didn't have many saved up already.
I just want to warn people that it will pull from locked inventory items, so be careful with that if you’re using “select all.”

Like 's suggestion! Also for 's comment because I think that's something you'd want to know ASAP. Sorry for the ping if not!
I disagree with the concerns about inflation - I think the bump in value for floating pumpkins from ~1-3k to ~9-15k is great, and makes me actually bother to click on them past the first couple days of Morostide. This is a really solid counter to the huge abundance of "junk" items created through this kind of event

I'm missing days by being out of state for a wedding, are you guys saying its impossible to get all prizes if we miss days? I'd love if this event didn't feel like a mad scramble. I like the personal vs community goals, and item rewards vs other types of rewards.
Definitely going to keep hoarding holiday items, for sure. The only reason I've donated what I have is my hoards of pumpkins from previous years.
Kumos site is hard to browse on my tablet. No sidebar to see my current sp amount. The page listing all items is chaotic, item hovers aren't working and there are only two items per line with a lot of white space. Massive scrolling thru over a thousand items, no item hover, and I can't seem to buy from user shops.
Disappointed we are given food and book items with such a hard limit because I'd like it if we could be feeding/reading to multip!e pets. But glad to see the prizes will be available in the future and really looking forward to the kumos site actually working. I think that will increase the fun factor of this event by about a thousand percent.
New post could have been written with more clarity and separated from the reactions news. I think that's everything off the top of .my head.
I'm happy with the event. I love how we can choose which items to claim. Allows for prioritisation and customisation of prizes. Including getting duplicates when previous events had one of a prize go out. It's nice. :D
Also, it's nice to bring back the event in the future, too. It doesn't make getting all the prizes this go around as stressful.
I wanted to chime in that I don't share concerns re: inflation or hoarding. Hoarding doesn't mean there are more items around, just that they don't get distributed as much, ie sold. For example, just because I hoard Ferzull as an item doesn't mean there are naturally more Ferzull around. They'd have been mostly generated through a certain site event. I also don't see why hoarding should be punished or viewed negatively. As a collector of beanbags and foods, I'm not going to just stop collecting simply because of anticipation of a future item sink event. I'll use it if I need to. Subeta's events are such that often people get far more multiples of items than they know what to do with. If you aren't hoarding, you're likely selling, so you're earning sp. I, as a hoarder who stuffs a majority of items in my vault to collect dust, don't have that. I don't even sell items earned from questing because I prefer sticking them in a vault for when future quests ask for them. Guess what? My sp income is less, because I'm hoarding, not selling. I think there's an associaton with hoarding and reselling/price gouging and while you tend to need the first for the latter, that's not always the case. In my opinion, feeling like the items in my vault can be eventually (more) worthwhile via an event like this encourages me to participate in events and feels more fulfilling. I know, to each their own, but I wanted to share my two cents, because I don't get the discouragement of hoarding on a principle basis (unless that principle is server space, then sure--). Sorry, I'll stop now. :'D
