Working through a number of different areas of the site, and one of the ones that need to be implemented with a timer at some point is the pet job system.

Jobs: https://subeta.net/explore/job_agency.php

I'm curious if you have any ideas for how we can add or tweak this system. The stat requirements at this point don't make a lot of sense, or create actual tiers. Also tying it to battle stats feels a little weird imo

Anything you can think of, let me know!

Shamelessly linking another old compilation thread of mine about job agency QoL stuff.

That aside, one of the things I've seen most frequently suggested over the years is a "Collect All" option for pet jobs. Because opening 30+ new tabs when you're collecting pet income is a huge hassle for the player and I also really doubt it's making the servers very happy.

As for tweaking the actual system, I don't think much needs to be changed? The current system is nice and simple to get a grasp on. Time employed + stats = job promotion.

But if you really want to pepper in something new, maybe have an alternative way to get job promotions that aren't strictly tied to stats. Stats should still be a requirement for jobs that need beefier pets - security guards, SAI employees etc. Books read/foods eaten for pet jobs that lean more into that niche (librarian, art gallery job, bakery, chef-type jobs). But also things like "do X amount of quests/activities/games (if we possibly get some of our MIA flash games un-flashed and playable again)". Have your pet get some "field experience" with you by doing things around the site. Or even have it be a mixture of the two.

For example, for a job that has your pet working in the food branch and it's worked there long enough to get a promotion: it could have a requirement of getting XY stats in intelligence and speed, or to do quests for Pete XY times, or to buy items at the food mart/fantine's bakery XY times". If you knock 3 things off that list, your pet can get promoted. But it should never be a requirement to do everything on that list. That would make it too grindy and tedious for those who have lots of employed pets they want to work on. The same goes for making you have this pet as your active pet while you do this - that's not something I'd be keen on since the pets page takes a dog's age to load and juggling active pets while I'm questing, restocking, doing anything around the site is not my idea of fun.

[edit] Interesting thing of note: I never got the ping for the Siteupdate group for this topic. The ping event does not show up on old subeta, but it does show up on Kumos. nvm the kumos ping notif was the outfit one - which I had deleted on the main site days ago but it still showed up there? I have no idea any more.

Shameless link to suggestion board related to this topic c:

A "collect all" button (as said) is the most common request I've seen. Personally I don't think having to do them one at a time is the worst but it is a lot of open - close - open - close. Opening so many pages makes it more likely to have an RE happen during, but because it's such a mindless open / close I think those are likely to be missed.

The tie-in of the stats isn't a bad thing imo, but I do think it could be neat to have more variety in the requirements for the jobs. For example, jobs tied to certain characters / places could require a "do x # of so-and-so's quests" (like suggested) or "play so-and-so game a certain # of times", "beat this challenger x # of times", "restock from this place x # of times" etc.

The most significant issue imo is the reading / intelligence. It is so mindnumbing. Granted, jobs probably weren't designed for folks like me who decided after 17 years to get 50+ pets to a certain job level buuuut I've had many folks on forums and discord support the idea of a "reading room" (see forum linked at top) or a subscription / GA perk related to "auto-reading" (something like selecting 10 books for a pet to read and then after 20 minutes it's done) because omg.

if anyone wants to weigh in on jobs!

I think jobs requirements should pull from more than just battling like suggested. I don't have much more to add to that.

I think depending on the job, you could reward items along side the sP. If your pet works at the bakery, there could be a small chance of your pet bringing home some baked good that didn't sell at the end of the day or something. My sister works at a grocery store and sometimes she brings home things that are about to expire. My IRL job likes to gives use free shirts and promotional material. You could also have a small chance at bonuses or tips for other jobs which could work in place of an item. The only bonus we get right now is a chance for some stats which is fine but if you want it to gear bonuses towards the theme of the job instead, items or more sP could work in place of stats (which would still work with some jobs).

Having a collect all would be amazing if there was only one change you could make, that would be it.

  1. Collect all incomes button

....I don't think there's anything else to mention honestly. Just give me the ability to collect all incomes of pets who have jobs at once cause I have 22 battle pets, and it's too tiresome to open all 22 links in tabs.

PLEASE We need a collect all (as has been said) button for all of our pets' salaries. I have over 90 pets and it is just horrible. And PLEASE make it so that we can read a lot more books at one time to pets, and maybe several pets at once. If I bought 5 copies of 20+ books I would like to be able to read all 20+ to 5 different pets of my choosing that have not read it yet. Also, I do like what some have said about including other things to do as well to get promoted in jobs.

I too would like a bulk reading option. Personally, I don't mind collecting income individually, but then I don't have 90 (!) pets lol. So I would definitely support a "collect all" option too.

Oooh, I also like 's idea of collecting income having the chance of special items sometimes (similar to how you can get stat boosts sometimes)! It could be special items for certain jobs, a pool of special items that all jobs pull from, or certain jobs pulling "restockable" items above a given rarity from certain related shops / quest shops / holiday shops?

I think the reading issue and varying what the requirements are would be a higher priority for sure, but this is a fun idea!

I'd love for pets at the highest levels.of their jobs have chances to earn extra sp, double the stats, depending on the job.

Maybe as an added bonus they could earn books or special items? More incentive to collect income daily.

omg how do we not have a collect all with some of you having 5000 pets. I'll see if I can get that into the legacy site, that would be a pretty big QoL update!

hmmm mass reading is a harder UI problem, we actually prototyped out a page years ago that had all of your pets in a row kind of like quick-stocking, and you could feed/read items from your inventory to them, but if you had more than 10 pets it really made the page hard to parse, and 20+ required side scrolling.

Does anyone have any idea why this stat cap is in place, in the job code? It's a piece of code that hasn't been touched in 8 years according to the commit history, and I have no idea what the context was 😵‍💫. Working through old Subeta is a lot of that 😭

Is 35000 still the regular pet stat cap (i honestly don't know 😭), I would have thought we'd have a variable to track that somewhere instead of hard coding it throughout the code base 💀

Maybe have a "book club/reading corner" feature? Add books into your "bookshelf" (like we do with donating food to Fantine, or have an "add all books from inventory into bookshelf" option). Then select up to 5 pets that will read all of these books (or read until they hit a certain int stat cap set by the player) on their own over a period of a couple hours. After they're done (or when they hit the player-set int stat cap), you get a notification and you can go insert more books, or switch out the pets that are being read to.

It's in the job agency so that when your pet hits the cap they no longer get the occasional free stat increases from collecting your pay. It's why my pets are always a few points from the cap to get the sweet occasional free intelligence point.

I feel like we could.... do that better, or make it so that it continues to give INT even after your pet has hit the limit?

Sounds good. I be happy to have them capped and still get only int from job agency.

Yes please! Allow for continuing gain of INT!

Also could we get a salary increase on some jobs once you hit the final tier. Thanks!

I was reminded the other reason not to cap pets. You no longer receive experience from battles. I keep under cap and hoard experience in case I ever want to leach and do a different build. So changing the Job Agency won't change if I cap or not.

As always mileage may vary and it may be incentive to not worry about capping anymore for other people
