Anyone else here on subeta like Tamagotchi's? I could gush about them on and on. I'm tempted to make a forum group if there's enough people here that would wanna chit chat about them and talk about new models, skins and so on.
Anticipating getting the new Uni this afternoon too! Super excited and hoping Amazon doesn't let me down.
Below is an only slightly outdated pic of my collection. I now have the pop 90's themed tama and floppy frog gigapet and SOON the Uni!

I don't collect them, but my sister and I we have one still yet. We got them in 1997. That one from my sister is white-yellow and looks exactly like yours in white-pink. Mine is completely red (none transparent) with yellow buttons. My sister also has the Tamagotchi video game for her Game Boy. We played it a lot on our SNES as we was kids.
I'm pretty sure I found out that the batteries of both of our Tamagotchis worked since 1997. >o< That's amazing, because they were stored often in our cellar during house moving.
I think both of them I have here in my room, in one of my 6 giant boxes with other video game things. I will take a look and hope I can find them till the weekend, so I can also share a picture.
Here in Germany, I hadn't seen any Tamagotchis in 25 years. They're not popular anymore here.

It's a shame the popularity is dropping but on the plus side you might be luckier in getting some old models like the Connections for more modest prices than an average of 60 to 150$ here in the US. This also includes models that are second hand and damaged though still functional.
The Uni is the newest tama that has Wi-Fi, lighted screen, etc. It seemed pretty globally hyped, but I guess most of the hype is just Japan and nerds in the US haha.
I just really find virtual pets cute and charming, and they bring me joy.

I love them, though admittedly mine has been paused for some time. My friend is sending me hers, though, and I hope to revive them both! I need to look into newer models, I am totally in the dark about new features and the like.
Random, I do epoxy art and one of the things I make are ashtrays. I made a tamagotchi ashtray, lol:
The Uni is a delight and is quite a jump if you've only been playing with the black and white models until now. There's been quite a few iterations of backlit color tamas over the last few years. It seems like only recently they've gotten back into a global market though with the Tamagotchi ON and the Tamagotchi Pix as well as the classic rereleases with cute new skins, they're trying to market outside Japan now.
The Uni feels a lot more like a tiny little phone in a way. it connects to Wi-Fi and can receive updates and download things without an outside device. The On used Bluetooth and a phone while the pix had QR codes to download items and other fun stuff. The Uni is super cute though and you can do plenty with it like making little DIY items, place furniture, games, walks, the tamas have individual personalities, the tamaverse which is like what the old apps were being able to find a spouse or travel. This new one is also rechargeable which is so much better tbh.
If you need a Tamagotchi encyclopedia on subeta I'm here lol

Oh that's SO FUN! I'm going to check out the Uni right now!
I'm actually surprised to see that there's people who collect them here! I have a good sized collection, but a good chunk has been shipped off to my dad's as I'm in the process of moving back to my home state. I put a pause on collecting last year because I had moved and was financially instable, but after moving back home, I hope that I can start building my collection again. I just wish I knew what happened to my original ones, so I could properly add them to my collection. I had a bunch of the Connections (V4 - V6, I think?). Luckily, I got incredibly lucky last year and scored a lot on Ebay for less than $30 of 5 working Connections, including a V6 Music Star!
OMG thats an incredible steal! The lowest prices I ever come across are at least around 250$ or something. I snagged a 4U for a friend of mine for 65$ WITH some pretty awesome customizations though!

It's so dang pretty! Just their vibe too because they like the whole space/galaxy themes.
The only Vpets missing from my collection are the obscure ones. I bought a set of Vmigo pets and a docking station for so so cheap to replace mine that up and vanished. Now I just need to replace my old Pixelchix toys and the littlest pet shop pet. (I don't miss the blinkies though >.>)

That's an awesome snag you got there yourself!! I have a white 4U with some pink/red and black ribbons faceplate, but I'd really like to get another one as it's not my style. The one you got is so nice though! I haven't played it too much, but once things settle, I'm definitely going to give each model their own focus eventually.
I don't have many Vpets, but I started to collect them last year, starting with a Fairy GigaPet! I really want to start expanding to some of the obscure ones someday.
The floppy frog remake is absolutely delightful if you ever decide to get it! Its adorable and filled with cute references! As much as I like the gigapets I feel like the gameplay loop gets tedious given they don't have babies and the new ones are so resilient I've never actually killed one even with massive neglect when I was sick with covid haha.

I've heard!! I absolutely love frogs, so it's definitely one I want to get! I have a Connections V3 that I may or may not have overpaid for because it was such a big ISO of mine ehehe...
I played the Gigapet a little, but with a lack of a pause feature, I found it a lil tedious to care for, so I just keep it for my collection. I did notice that it took forever to die though, so that was really nice, especially if you're busy, sick, or whatever. Once I have more time after my move, I'll probably give it a proper playthrough so I can get the full experience, since it's super cute!
i do collect tamaz and vpetz in genral! i dont hav quite az big a collection but i too am excited to get the uni!
It's definitely very cute so far! Hopefully it'll be more fun when events that use the Wi-Fi capability come around. It feels quite a bit like an english Tamagotchi Smart but with some refreshing new features added in. Don't really have places to visit still which is a bummer, but we can go on walks and do DIYs to make accessories which is cute. I'm just waiting for the day they bring back the tama school and jobs like in the old connection tamas. Maybe even the random mail too! Even if I get my points burgled again by the thief dude lol.

My mom bought one a few months ago but I don't remember where. She thought we (my sister and I) had Tamagotchi's but we were really Gigapet fanatics. Those we collected (special ones included a "Salem" from Sabrina the Teenage Witch and a Barbie cat).
I recentlyish got into Gigapets when they started doing more of the re-releases and I was amazed how many there were! Especially branded and otherwise really unique ones. Its a shame they didn't quite take off as much as the Tamagotchi stuff did. Them making new versions of some of their old pets makes me hopeful though! They recently released a remake of the floppy frog and its adorable and full of so many cute references!

I had one back when they were a big thing in the 90's, I am unsure if I could torture myself with a new one. But man how I loved it back then!
The new color screen tamas are SOOOO much less stressful than classic tamas it's a dream to have them with me while I work. If I'm too stressed or busy it has a babysitter to watch them for you from 7am all the way until 6pm. The most recent model is rechargeable as well so no more battery buying! More charm and less constant fear of death if you look away for a few minutes too long.

I used to be obsessed with tamagotchis (and later digimon) as a kid, didn't realize they were still being released stateside, how cool! The video for the new Uni model is very shiny, but a bit light on details, what does it actually do?
I'm really surprised that there hasn't been a resurgence in virtual pet style games now that every kid has a smartphone. Would have thought it was the perfect format. Maybe when it's on a phone and not on a cute little egg thing it's not the same?
One Phone pet I ADORED ended up as abandonware and it made me so sad. It was Pakka pets and honestly something like that making a big comeback and having online capabilities and such would be so wonderful.
The new Uni though! It can connect to Wi-Fi on its own to access updates and download data and let you participate in events. The pets have their own personality so you can have a lazy mametchi or a peppy mametchi etc. which affects their default behavior as well as likes and dislikes. (So preferences are not isolated to the character itself). You can marry any tama regardless of gender as well. I don't think gender is even in this one too. You can also go for walks to collect materials for DIYs(accessories) or new DIY recipes. Your home can be furnished and remodeled, and some furniture can be placed outside. The Tamaverse location in this one works like one of the old phone apps where you can meet a new tama to marry and instead of games they allow you to travel or display outfits for others to see and buy. Basic tamaverse doesn't need internet, only for special global events. At the moment we have a racing competition going that anyone can participate in and its Pink Vs Purple (The colors of the Uni). ANother little feature that isnt really pushed as hard is that you can send "posts" from your tama to your phone to put online. Cute but sometimes they're hilariously cryptic because I think it randomizes images and text lol.
-> for example
Really loving the new Uni though!
