LOCK PLEASE BEFORE THIS GETS HEATED
[edit]Thank whoever did. Peace!
I think it's referring to the Abba song: https://www.lyrics.com/lyric/1023644/ABBA/Dancing%20Queen
I'm personally fine with leaving it as is. It's a reference to an extremely famous song (about dancing, no less) of the same name.
Maybe I'm the weirdo, but having it set to whatever the user has set for their gender or lack thereof seems to be another level of customization possibilities.
But hey, it's me.

i genuinely see no issue with the title. not to mention, anyone can be a queen, no matter their gender.
Another title, sure, but please do not change existing titles unless they're problematic
It's a reference to the ABBA song, there isn't a problem.
oh wow, this just threw me back to the miner (now gold digger iirc) debacle ages ago.
but anyway yeah i have to echo what others are saying about this title being fine - it's not an actual reference to anyone's gender and i'm sure most people are aware of Dancing Queen in passing at the very least.
That would be like asking for the achievement reward for completing your pumpkin collection to be something other than "Pumpkin King", which I believe is also a pop culture reference.
I don't think it should be changed. If you don't want to use it, don't use it.
Yep, Jack Skellington :) A great movie
no?? they're references to specific things. if you don't want those titles applied to you, just use a different forum title... there's lots of them.
Nah. Dancing queen and pumpkin king are very well known pop culture references. Keep them as is.

Wow, that was a while ago, thanks for reminding me of that.
I'm cis, so take it as it is, but I don't really see the harm of having some titles that do make a reference to a gender. Especially these two, where it makes sense; they're references.
We're supposed to be inclusive to everyone, and some people might want to have "Girl" "Boy" "King" or "Queen" in their title. We cannot completely erase gendered terms, and we shouldn't be erasing them, because to these people, these terms are good. They're welcoming, they're part of their identity, they represent what they are.
And, when I say "some people", I don't just mean conservative cis people. Some trans people really do prefer gendered terminology over gender-neutral one, and it's perfectly fine for them to prefer it. There are reasons why some non-biney people do not want to use they/them.
We do have some titles that are gender-neutral; most of them, even. If we had the inverse proportions, I might want staff to look into it, But I think the current status is fine.
Like my compadres said, both of these titles are also well-known popular references. It's not gendered for the same of being gendered, it's something that's well-known across cultures.

I'm not coming for anyone, you just happen to be the quoted text most relevant but I'm not going to be quiet on this: I love how this became "erasing" when I still wish, just because it makes sense, that the titles wouldn't be one gendered term only and would reflect what the user has selected on their profile.
If you want a "dancing queen," then by all the salt in me, have it.
That seems like a very long explanation of "It's a pop song, therefore, I don't want to it changed since it's pandering/whatever and remember that one instance with the gold digger title???"

Isn't the Dancing Queen title an ABBA reference though? Now I have that song stuck in my head.

Alternate suggestion:
If it's possible why not have titles like this unlock more than one title, so the user can pick?
A feminine, a masculine, and a neutral? Or if that's not possible (aka you cannot attach more than one reward title per achievement) why not add the additional titles for just a few more of TASK that follows the achievement? (EG: Dancing for 2500 gives you Title 1, Dancing for 2525 gives you Title 2, Dancing for 2550 gives you Title 3.)
I am a person who identifies as she/her or they/them but I do sometimes refer to myself with a title that includes the word 'King' and to me personally, I don't feel misgendered by it, but that's only MY personal feelings on the matter. I can also understand that for others, that would make them not feel great and just because I find it okay, doesn't mean others should have to.
So I think a best of both would be a good compromise because these are literally JUST titles and if a small change makes people feel more comfortable, then it's worth it (at least, to me!). Additionally, just because they're pop culture references doesn't mean everyone cares about pop culture, regardless of their background.
Making more is fine by me, but I would be sad to see the references go.
Regarding the Gold Digger title, isn't that also pretty offensive and degrading? Why would anyone want to call themselves that proudly? I've never liked that title for what it was before and then after.

Here are the titles that are technically gendered
"is a Time Lord"
"is the Pumpkin King"
"is a DANCING QUEEN"
"Sir Quest-A-Lot"
Like, we don't even have something akin to "Prince" or "Princess" - we have the gender-neutral "The Royal" instead.
i don't really think that makes more sense than just... adding more forum titles, or using a different one that already exists—the vast majority of which make no reference to any specific traits, including several that are also about pumpkins and dancing. just because i'm a woman and i have the gender on my profile set to female doesn't mean i never want to use a "masculine" title. people can just freely pick between whatever forum titles they've unlocked without it needing to be tied to any other settings.
also like, it's ok for there to be forum titles that don't apply to everyone. the getting bi achievement is for having some cutesy pickup line stickers in your album—nothing really to do with being bisexual specifically, it's just a reference to a song from a TV show, and gives some users the option of making a joke about their sexuality. it doesn't need to be changed just because i have no use for it.
(although, i wouldn't mind adding one that's like "___ is lezzing out" lol.)
This is Subeta, not Earth, be anything you want to be. If you're a woman and want to be the Pumpkin King, do it. If you're non-binary and want to be the Dancing Queen, do it.
