But...it's a raccoon, and coon in this context is clearly referring to that. That's also where the coonhound gets its breed name from, they were bred to hunt raccoons. It's only problematic when you use that word in the other context, which this item is not, so I think it's fine.

It IS a slur. There is no reason it shouldn’t be brought up. Yea it can be short for raccoon but it can also be a horrible slur.

Yeah even if it's referring to it being a raccoon plushie, that name makes me cringe.

I can see why people might not know it's a slur (it is dated and probably more region-specific) but it still has, historically, been used to oppress and dehumanize. We lose nothing by changing the name, and gain inclusivity, so like... why not lol

I highly doubt a random item was completely turning people away or causing them to quit. xD Call it a coon or a raccoon, whichever, but it's not being used inappropriately in this item.

At the time when the item was created it may not have been seen as a big deal, but as society moves toward being more inclusive and aware of the harm of words that have historically negative context, changing things like this is for the better.

I know a lot of people say "coondog" in referring to hunting and raccoon hunting dogs specifically so I'm pretty sure that's what this item is referring to. I'm also a sheltered person who had no idea it was even ever a slur at any point.

I do have to agree that at some point it's going to be like every nickname and every little thing meant something negative at some point or another. It's really hard to keep up with.

That word was a slur long before Subeta was thought of.

Again, the context doesn't bother me here because, unlike other slurs, it depends, but it certainly isn't "new".

is also a thing, btw. I would hate to see the minion and plushie renamed just to "Raccoon" because that's a boring choice, but hell, it does need to be renamed.

Also while my above comment about Keith surely never intending anything negative because he is indeed inclusive and understanding still stands... I have to say this item is a bit more sketch because they have the word curious attached.

I had no idea that word was a slur of any kind, though I will admit that given the climate nowadays, it might definitely be better to change it.

As for the CW, I'm wondering why they didn't just spell out "raccoon" there.
