Hi all. I'm very inexperienced and unknowledgeable when it comes to battling, but I've been trying my hand at battle quests lately, and I always get stuck on level 15/16.
My main battler is Anozira. These are her current stats: Level: 245 Health: 615 / 615 Strength: 620 Defense: 621 Speed: 610 Intelligence: 1211 AP: 75 Tier: 5 To Next Tier: 2466 / 2600
This is my current weapon set:
I've noticed that I get the most bang for my buck out of the bow, the quill, and the tag, so I tend to use them most often. I'm really disappointed in the amulet, but I don't know if I'm ready yet to spend 10mill on the next healer up, unless that's the only option.
Since Anozira is so close to Tier 6, I'm willing to consider good Tier 6 weapons.
I've also started to dabble in scrolls and attaching crystals to weapons, but I honestly have no idea what I'm doing. I'm basically using them as extra weapons at this point.
Anozira has some dark potions equipped to her as well. Is there anything else that I can equip directly to the pet? I'm having a hard time figuring that out.
Anyway, any help is appreciated. Weapons recommendations, modifications, etc. Thanks!
Every five battle quests go up in difficulty. Levels 16-20 are more suited for the T6-7 range so you are about where you should be in terms of progress :D Now that you're getting close to T6 though, those levels will become easier for you and by T7 you should be able to complete them regularly.
For T6, I recommend this set: Yes, Phoenix Quill is worth the upgrade. You're going to use it for as long as you battle so I would buy that as soon as you can. It really is the perfect healer. I like pairing the Frost Thorn and Ol Blue together because they both have a chance to freeze and freezing usually makes battling much easier. The Flayed Lord Breastplate will be a more reliable upgrade to your Forj Tempered Shield. If you want to look at more T6 options though, here is a list of them on SubetaLodge.
Scrolls are basically an extra weapon you get to use each turn :P There is a guide to them over here: The Complete Scroll List. I usually start building a set with an infinite use scroll (Singed Stuffing and Divine Denizhen are great for beginners). Cobalt Eternal Scroll and Fatal Fire Scroll are good for defense. Perilous Whirlpool Scroll is also a good beginner freezer scroll.
I have a guide to mod crystals over here: The Guide to Mod Crystals. Hopefully the FAQ can clear things up for you!
I don't really dabble in dark potions anymore since they take such a long time to equip, but other items you can equip directly are shards (Magma Shard, etc.), pylonics, and throwing vials.
Finally, look up the ingredients for Frost Thorn, Divine Denizhen Scroll, and Perilous Whirlpool Scroll on SubetaLodge before purchasing. Usually they are much cheaper to make yourself :D
What scrolls are you using? The only reason my T5 can get to and beat level 20 consistently is because of the scrolls my stronger pets won he can now equip. Better weapons also play a roll. You will definitely want to invest in a Phoenix quill, soma tablets and reviver of the lion as those are all still useful in high tiers.
If you don't already have one, the Divine Denizhen Scroll is your friend. If you're looking for crystals, I suggest going for the Cabochon and Brilliant. I also suggest looking at what type of damage any given enemy does and mod your weapons accordingly. For example, I modded my Ziaran Throwing Knife with two Dark Defense Briliants and a Physical Defense Cabochon for taking on Pete.
Stop training STR/DEF/SPD
My T4 was taking on lv 20 pretty easy, but I stopped training STR/DEF/SPD until I got HP to 900 when I hit 300 in STR/DEF/SPD. Part of that is also to expensive scrolls, but even without that the high HP build is probably the best way to go.
For you I would stop training anything buy HP until you hit 1500 to 2000 HP.
Even if you just go for a couple Gale force scrolls out of the battle shop.

Thanks for all the great advice! I've been meaning to reply but have been super busy IRL. In fact, I opened this thread to start a post two days ago, and I haven't gotten to finish it until now. XD
I've been watching whenever I use the Recycle Blaster, and I don't see that it has any icons of damage. Is it unreliable? Or is doing something that isn't specifically stated? I definitely think I will invest in the Phoenix Quill - it didn't even come up in the list of healers in Subetalodge since I guess it isn't technically a healer? So I didn't realize it too was a good option.
When I get a chance I'm definitely going to look into those scroll and crystal topics. Thank you for linking those!
I just chose some random ones in Subetalodge that were cheap but seemed to do some damage. I didn't want to invest too much and then find out later that was wrong. So I currently have a set with Singed Stuffing, Emerald Stonewall, Dark Symphony, and Vengeful Tide. I tend to alternate between the first two with not much reason to it because I haven't paid too much attention to what does what.
thanks for those suggestions! I have noticed that some weapons are more effective against certain opponents than others, but I haven't been too discerning about it. I've definitely gotten to the point where I can't just brute force a win. Do you mod based on weaknesses or on strengths? In other words, do you try to enhance whatever the weapon already has naturally, or do you try to fill in the gaps in its power?
The way I train my pets, I think I'll just keep training everything uniformly, but you've given me a good direction for what to do with the EXP. I would have to reprogram my mindset to train just HP, but I'll keep it in mind. :) Can you explain a bit more why that's a good idea? Do the str/def/spd not really make a difference at a certain level? Or is it more about building endurance?
The Recycle Blaster is a special weapon, it blasts one of your opponent’s weapons into a piece of junk that only does one physical icon of damage. It’s useful in that it reduces the damage your opponent can do to you when they pick that weapon for a turn. One icon will hit you far less harder than 20-30 icons, for example :P
I guess the Phoenix Quill didn’t show up because it doesn’t take the Healer slot. Which is good since you can only equip one weapon classified as a Healer per set. Reviver of the Lion is also similar to Phoenix Quill, but quite a bit more expensive. When you can afford it, having both in your set will be very helpful :D
So the gimmick of the Recycle Blaster (And Soma Tablets) is that it blasts one of your opponent's weapons, converting it to a Recycled Wad that does 1 physical icon (Some Tablets turns an item into something that does 1 fire and 1 dark icon). When your opponent uses blasted garbage instead of an actual weapon it makes the fight easier on you because it's not doing the damage/healing it normally would. Recycle Blaster and Soma Tablets are better than the Blackmoon Hand Blaster because the blasted items are infinite use, so there's a chance your opponent will use the garbage multiple times per fight.
Health helps you progress faster because percent based healing makes turning your pet into a giant meat wall one of the most successful battle strategies. With a large health pool, the right weapons and scrolls you can heal a significant amount of incoming damage per turn.
Battling is an expensive little hobby on Subeta, and the tier system hasn't fixed this. I know you don't wanna spend the sP but you kinda do; or you will have to wait until your pet is stronger.
and Ah, okay! That is useful. I'll move it up to sooner in my rotation then.
That also makes sense about the healing and percentages.
I am totes okay with spending money as I get more involved in battling - sorry if I gave the wrong impression. I just don't want to throw a ton of money at the wrong things, yano? Expense doesn't always equate to worth.
In the case of my throwing knife I modded it specifically for Pete so that I could get extra defense against his strongest attacks. The others I modded because most of my other weapons only defend against one or two elements so I wanted to add some others.

If your using the training center, keep training everything, but spend all EXP on HP at least. If you could force that disipline on ourself for another 200-300 HP I think you will see very notible results.

Thanks to all y'all's help, I've been able to get Anozira up to tier 6, and beaten the Battle Quests up to level 20! I also created my first scrolls, which was exciting.
I "broke my piggy bank" (read: raided my shop till) and splurged on a few new toys, namely , , and . I also bought a a few days ago and can finally use it! I've modded a few of my weapons with healing baguette crystals. I don't have quite enough for the Reviver of the Lion, but that is my next planned big purchase.
I'm still having to brute force my way through a bit with dark potions and Repair Bots, but I'm getting better at recognizing who responds better to which weapons.
Thanks again for all your help, guys!
- I know you've gotten a lot of advice already but I love my and my tier 7 pet is still using it. I like it better than the frost thorn, though I know a lot of people prefer the frost thorn lol
EDIT: And I know it's expensive, but you can get one for like 11 mil by combining a heated short sword with some forj ore or whatever.
Thanks! Can you explain why you like the machete more than the frost thorn?
- it always seems to do more damage than almost every other weapon I have, tbh. Even my Abbadon does garbage damage compared to it. I think it might be that the icons it deals aren't blocked as much by a lot of opponents? It doesn't have a chance to freeze, though, so you can take that into consideration (or slap some freeze mods onto it).
I'm currently testing it and the frost thorn out against different opponents and unless they specifically block the machete's damage types, it does more damage consistently
EDIT: Not that the frost thorn isn't great tho! They're actually fairly closely matched, I just seem to find the machete to hit a bit harder
EDIT EDIT: Another thing you might want to look into is the now that you're tier 6!
It's my other staple item. Heals real good, freezes real good, blocks common icons, does decent damage. It saves my bacon all the time
The reason why I recommended the Frost Thorn and Ol Blue combo is because they are significantly cheaper than the Reborn Icewand of Doom and Forj Tempered Machete. Most people do not have that much sP to invest in battling at first. Plus, usually you go through the lower tiers so quickly that you're going to have to upgrade to new attackers in a few months anyway. I prefer that people spend their sP on permanent items like the Phoenix Quill you just bought. If you have the sP to burn, then great, but, if not, it's okay to stick to the cheaper stuff.
Here is a post of cheaper sets that I put together a little while back.
Thanks for the explanations! Now that I've splurged I'll have to wait a bit to get more weapons, but I'll keep those things in mind. Right now I apparently can't go any further than Level 20 unless I get more healers (is there such a thing as a not-one-use-per-battle healer?) and more HP so that I can outlast my opponents. But I'll slowly work up to those. :)
Edit: I see the Reborn Icewand of Doom qualifies as a not-OPB healer, but it also only does 10% - is this as good as it gets for long-lasting healers? It ofc has other qualities that make it desirable, but right now I need magic jazz hands.
