Do you like the internet? Do you like free speech? Do you enjoy surfing the web freely; going from URL to URL without blockages, extra charges, selective throttling or any other limitations? Do you like watching all sorts of videos and posting whatever you want on your social media of choice without paying separate fees to access everything? (Would you like to NOT see the internet go the way of television, for which you now must subscribe to half a dozen separate packages and providers to obtain the content you want?) Then you enjoy net neutrality! The principle that the internet should not be influenced by the profit-driven whims of ISPs or other corporations who stand to gain from limiting, charging extra for and discriminating against various online content providers.
All websites and all data should be treated equally. Allowing corporatocracy to rule the web is the first step toward a real-life cyber-dystopian future. Please take action now to prevent corporate and political interests from influencing what you can do and see on the web. Visit the links below or just search Net Neutrality to research it for yourself and find ways to take action. Remember: information is power - don't let them take it away from you!
I am Canadian, so I am not sure how much it would affect me. But I am against everything that requires to control what people think on the internet. Someday, we will open Youtube to watch a video and come across a message "We are sorry but this video is reserved to our members. Be a member today! It's only 5$ a month".
Yes, no thank you sir. It's going to be like TV real soon and anime network (ie: Funimation, Amazon Strike, Crunchyroll). The service is not even that good as well. It's ridiculous. All our lives are based on money. They are soon going to make us pay for air.
Internet is already expensive enough. Stop shitting in our hands. Stop controlling us. This isn't Fahrenheit 451. If they give you ruled paper, write the other way!
This honestly worries me because it seems like they're just going to keep voting on this until they get it repealed, just like the ACA. But unlike the ACA, there isn't as much public pushback about it, so I believe it's even more likely that we're going to lose the damn internet.
i would go insane if this passed lol I already pay 100 US dollars for high speed internet and I surf the internet probably all day since I work from home so its like ........ i would have to pay fees for every little thing this is ridiculous and also be restricted to how much i can play or if I could afford it one month! if this passed omg -_- ..........

This outright flies in the face of the whole notion that the internet should be a necessity and making sure that America has broadband internet for all. The big three companies don't have anyone's interests in mind except their own and I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if they had politicians in their back pockets or vice versa.
I am so mad.

I am a network engineering student and have done much research and many papers on net neutrality and it boggles my mind that people can be against it. I am terrified of the upcoming vote. I already left passive aggressive voicemails to my senator. Protests are happening during exam week. Wish I could do more.

Most people's vote against maintaining this law is because "we didn't have problems before - this was just Obama trying to put his name on something that wasn't even a problem."
Really. I'm SO over this admin hating and undoing everything, simply because Obama's name is on it. It's ridiculous.
The reason Net Neutrality became a thing is because the big internet companies were talking about doing exactly what is described in the OP, and I want to say they even started to try it. They would allow so many GB of streaming on Netflix, before speeds got throttled, rendering it useless. I know I'm not making this up. I'm almost positive it became a thing because of a fight between Netflix & Verizon over this exact thing. Granted, at the time, I BELIEVE the ISP wanted the companies to pay more to reduce throttling, but where does that money come from? In comes Net Neutrality.
It's crazy that so many people are ambivalent about it. I've seen a few people talking about it, but for the most part, no one seems to care. Truly mind boggling.
I am outright furious about this. Why should cable companies control our internet? I don't wanna pay extra just to get on YouTube or Subeta, and I'm sure my parents don't want to, either. The internet is supposed to be a free, open space where everyone can conduct their business however they like, but this repeal just smells of greed. Nothing good will come out of this repeal, and the fact that some people are for it or indifferent about it infuriates me more and more. WE HAVE TO BE ON OUR FUCKING GUARD ABOUT THIS! We can't slow down until voting time comes and passes. Think of all the people this will affect, including those that have to run a business. Not only that, but it could affect other countries too, so it passes. They'll have to deal with the cable company pulling strings just to squeeze some extra money out of their consumers if similar laws get passed. Keep it circulating, keep it in the public eye, spread the word, and call your congressman!
Sorry about the messiness. I'm not having a ball with this. Every time the government comes up with idiocy like this, it gets me worked up.

Been afraid of this vote for a while.. it sounds dramatic, but my relief from everything, and my mental health kind of rely on being able to get online, be able to talk to those I love on here (as in Subeta and elsewhere <3), and I can't do that anymore if this goes through. I will not be able to afford any extra charges, I can barely afford what I need to already, and most times I can't and have to find some crazy way to make up the balance just in the nick of time. I don't understand why we can't just leave it as is, and why $$ will always over ride freedom for these people :( I was actually coming on here to see if there was a topic about it yet, and to say that if... when it changes and gets repealed, that I love everyone I've met on here and it'll be such a huge loss in my life that I won't be able to come on here and talk to everyone anymore, and have this escape. I don't know what I'll do without it. I realize I could go outside and take a walk or whatever, but nothing distracts me from the world and my mind like this place does. I'm at a loss </3 So if anyone I talk to on here sees this, just know ily and I've loved talking to you and having you in my life for these almost past 5 years, and tysm for being a part of my life.
Well, today is the day. Voting will take place between 10:30-12:30 EST. Just hope for the best, guys.

So...they're taking away my health care, making me pay more taxes, and NOW they're trying to take away my SUBETA?! Fuck this shit.
Not that I'll be affected for the most part, because I know a friend who knows...ways around this little problem, but still. This is bullshit. Prime, Grade-A BULLSHIT.
And the voting takes place today, as in right-fucking-now. Even with my friend promising to help us around this crap, I'm still worried. I'm worried about my Subeta, mainly. It's my place to go to get me through the shitty times in my life, especially my work day. I don't know how I'll get through my day without it, honestly. I know that's pathetic, but...shrug
But even with this total shite bill, even if it GOD FORBID does go through, I'm pledging right here and now to help keep Subeta running. If that means I have to pay a monthly fee, I'll do it.
[edit] Watching a live feed now. They're explaining what the bill will do in fancy law-speak.
3-2 We lost. Just....

(I'm from Canada but still very touched by this anyway) Don't stop! This has to be taken to court so Congress can decide. Don't stop calling your state reps! Don't give up, guys.
Alright guys, call your reps. Call every single day. Tell them you're furious about this decision, and ask them to fight it. Call your Attorney General. Call every single day. Ask them to fight the legality of this.
Don't give up.
Talk about giving a xmas present to the ISP oligopolies and their cronies.
Chances are, they will be quiet and wait until the attention has calmed down to "prove" that the effects are benign, and then take advantage of the opportunities from the net neutrality repeal.
One of the main reasons why they kept advocating the repeal is because cable cord cutters are moving to Netflix and other video streaming services. But who wants to pay for a bunch of channels they don't watch and an increasing amount of commercials in them? They want to protect their old source of revenue and not make the effort to keep up with the times... at your expense.
Well... guess this means I can't access Subeta if this passes in Supreme Court. I don't know what I'll do with my time! This site has been my whole life, basically. I've put so much work into my pets.
Gosh, as a 30 year old chick,,, who fully cut class during her junior and senior years to play Subeta ^^... I'm absolutely worried about this, Subeta was my whole life for over 10 years... and to say I'm slightly freaking out is an understatement lol ^^
