Just wondering if anyone out there has been keeping track of what the NPCs have said during the plot? Especially for the story part, a copy of what they've said so far would be great.

Thank you in advance!

You mean this conversation before we go to sleep in the camp?</p>
<p>Saggitarius
I’ve been spending more time thinking about the point that you brought up at the first Tomb, Blake. You mentioned that you received a letter that called you to the island. Who was it from?

Steele

Quote
It wasn’t signed. I got one just like it a few years back, with a map that led to the hidden temple in the Sacred Lands. I never found out who sent that letter, or why. This one was exactly like it, map and all.

Kahaleitzli

Quote
Interesting. Do you think the mysterious person that sent the letter could be the one that beat our expedition to the first tomb?

Steele

Quote
I mean, it’s possible, but I don’t really see the point, I guess? Like, if they were going to come to the island anyway, and go to the exact same places we’re going to, then what was the point of the letter? Why didn’t they just keep the map?

Matlal

Quote
BUT WHERE POINT?

Steele

Quote
Indoor voice, bud. But that’s a good point. We seem to be following the same path so far, but we have no idea where this map would lead us, or even if this is the only copy of the map.

Saggitarius

Quote

Maybe it’s the opportunist in me, but I know that if I was some mysterious stranger looking for something hidden, I would definitely rope someone else into doing the footwork for me. Perhaps someone is lurking around watching us, even now.</p>
<p>Everyone looks around the dark woods with a shiver of unease.</p>
<p>Let’s stay vigilant tonight. If there is someone following us, we don’t know what they are up to.

I've saved some things in my word document.

I'm not sure if that's everything but you could ask :)

sorry for the ping , didn't mean to include that :p

DAY ONE:

Steele

Quote
Congratulations, recruits! Are you ready to do some ADVENTURING?

Saggitarius

Quote
Yes, congratulations, especially to those chosen for Team Gold. Today, I introduce you to my co-leader for Team Gold, the High Priest of the Omen Islands, Kahaleitzli. Would you like to take over, your grace?

Kahaleitzli:

Quote
Thank you. Good day. I understand that outsiders and islanders have had a… complicated relationship in the past. However, our situation has again become desperate and we require the assistance of anyone available. Simply put, our summer festival approaches, and we are out of gold.</p>
<p>Naturally, we fear the retribution of the sea witch, Merana, who has been a, erm, “influence” to our islands for some time. Our mission is a simple one: We will be heading to the summit of the mountain, to the Tomb of the First King, and recovering the gold that was buried with him. This should ensure our continued prosperity.

Matlal

Quote
NOPE

Steele

Quote
Hey bud, relax, I’ve got you. So, Matlal here is my co-team leader, and our mission is also pretty simple: We’re going to try to get there before them. As the resident witch doctor here on the island, Matlal is worried that opening the tomb will result in something even more terrible-

Matlal:

Quote
interrupts loudly, again
YOU NOT JUST GO STEAL FROM DEAD, YOU WANT CURSE? THAT HOW YOU GET CURSE!

Steele

Quote
What he said. I’m not, like, 100% sold on the authenticity of curses, but he’s got a glowing skull hat and the island is enslaved by a mermaid, so I think we can all agree that the Omen Islands work in mysterious ways and my opinion on the matter might not be totally accurate, you feel me?</p>
<p>Anyway, yep, we’re going to get there ahead of them and just… try to minimize any supernatural damage that the tomb raiding is causing? Honestly, I’m not playing to my strengths on this one, but a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do.

Saggitarius:

Quote
Given the lightly competitive nature of our expedition, my team will be receiving a cash sP bonus each time we make camp first. Saggitarius Enterprises rewards efficiency.

Steele

Quote
Uh, yeah, totally. Adventure is its own reward, right? You know my situation in terms of cash capital, but I can promise that whichever team reaches base camp first will get bonus adventure points - and I have a little more experience in managing adventure supplies so we’re not stopping to eat as much!

Saggitarius:

Quote
We will be sharing a base camp location each evening for safety reasons, but during the day all bets are off- Team Gold plays to win. Speak to your team leader when you are ready to hear about your specific assignment.</p>
<p>Thank you for choosing Team Gold, though honestly I pity the buffoons that chose Team Steele- Or whatever he’s calling his team today. I’ve considered your past expedition experience and I have decided to assign you to the position of Trail Supervisor.

(I ask for more info)

Saggitarius:

Quote
Simply put, we have a long road ahead of us, and the resources of our expedition party will need to be closely managed. I expect you to control our inventory of food and supplies and deal with any threats, delays, or future hiring decisions in regards to the expedition.

(I accept).

first day at the trail

DAY TWO: Secound trip (at the first temple):

Kahaleitzli:

Quote
It is doubtful that this tomb contains much treasure. Unfortunately, the path to this tomb is easier to navigate than others, so we find that these lower tombs have often been picked clean by those in a tough situation.

Saggitarius

Quote
Somewhat ironic, considering the current circumstance.

Matlal:

Quote
LESS TALK, MORE DO!!!

Steel:

Quote
I agree, Metlal. Hey, Annet, why don’t you poke your head in there and see if there is anything salvageable while we set up camp for the night?

(I do).

(I find some stuff)

Steel:

Quote
Nothing but junk, huh? I wish I could say I was bummed out about that, but I really want to keep exploring the island, don’t you? Though… Something feels kind of off.
Well, I mean, the whats-it-called… braziers? The torch things? They were already lit when we arrived. I mean, I didn’t light it, and I don’t think any of us would trust Matlal with matches-

Matlal

Quote
HEY, SCREW YOU!!!

Steel:

Quote
Nothing personal buddy, you’re just a wildcard.

Kahaleitzli:

Quote
You raise a very interesting point. Neither I nor Saggitarius lit the braziers, either. Someone has been here before us, but I can’t imagine for what purpose. Perhaps the pirates have expanded their repertoire to include tomb raiding.

Saggitarius

Quote
Maybe it’s some of your own people looking to salvage whatever they can find? You said yourself that it’s not unusual.

Kahaleitzli:

Quote

It’s possible, though all the people of the village knew that we were embarking on this quest. I can’t imagine any of them would sneak into these tombs when there is such a high risk of being caught in the act. I would, of course, need to punish them for such an act.

Steel:

Quote
Well, either way, let’s keep an eye out around the camp tonight. Who knows what people might be willing to do to cover their tracks.

Night 2

(I talk with Kahaleitzli). Some errors 502 and blank pages have made, I have unfortunate not the whole information)

Kahaleitzli

Quote
I suppose we have kept things rather close to the vest in the past, haven’t we? Kahaleitzli was the first king of the islands. In his honor, all kings that have come after him forego the name that they were given by birth and take his, instead, for we share his spirit.
According to our folktales, the Omen Islands were one large island, rather than the chain you see today. Our empire was vast and spread not only all over the island, but also to the great lands beyond, and in our success, we found hubris and thought that we could command all that we surveyed. We spread even to the top of this holy mountain, a place of untold power, and built upon it so that we might also control the sky and look down at all those on the ground below.
Angered by our arrogance, The Beast awoke. (he gestures to the mountainside) In its echoing anger, the island was shattered. So wounded by the damage we had done with our construction, its fiery blood poured over the land, destroying and burying whatever it touched.
Well, yes, we know that to be true now, but it was a simpler time then. Kahaleitzli sent scholars to reason with the beast, but they did not return. He sent merchants with gifts for the beast, but they too were lost. Soon, he sent warriors to slay the beast, but its skin was too thick and anger too fierce.

(error 502 I miss some text)

Kahaleitzli

Quote
As they say, “heavy is the head that wears a crown”. Some responsibilities are for a king alone to bear, no matter their weight. In reverence and piety, Kahaleitzli cast himself into the heart of the beast, and with his final sacrifice made peace with the mountain. The beast has slept since that day.
This is why I am not worried about “raiding” these tombs, you understand? They are the treasures of forgotten kings whose duty it is to serve their people, even in death. And if their spirits grow restless, it is my duty and mine alone to right what we have done, do you see? I will do what it takes, no matter the ugliness it paints me with. I have become accustomed to ugliness.
know you must be thinking of her, and you have been polite not to speak of it: I have not forgotten Amy. Her name is a like a whisper that echoes in my head, growing louder while I lay in bed at night, the only other sound the lapping waves that took her.</p>
<p>I am sorry for her loss, but I do not regret it - would you not kill one to save one thousand? Or even yet, would you not trade a stranger for your brother, given the choice? I hope that you may never find yourself with such a choice to make.</p>
<p>he sighs heavily
Forgive me, I have suddenly grown very weary. Please, leave me to enjoy the fire for a while.

DAY 3

At the camp I talk with Matlal:

Matlal

Quote

I have great time, see many things, explore a lot! I only explore this high up mountain one time in past, so lots of new for me. Also, outsiders have very funny talks when they think you not understand, so I have a lot laughing, too. How you?
(I ask him tho the former journy in the mauntains).
Quote

That is story from many time ago, is long story.
(Dat doesn't matter I want still to know).
Quote

You nice. You have nice face. I like to tell you, but story too long, and my English not so good.
(My english is also not my native speak, but I'm not so superficial to make a drama about mistakes in languages. Awww please Matlal I want to know more). Matlal leans in to study your face for a moment, then casts a conspiratorial look around before dropping his voice to scarcely more than a mumble.

Quote
I hope you’re prepared; this story starts a long while ago.</p>
<p>His affectations have vanished, though his speech is still tinged with an islander accent.</p>
<p>At that time, my brother was still attending university, while I was just finishing my residency at Greater Centropolis Teaching Hospital.

(And was Saggitarius the teacher? Go on! Go on! Go on! Please)! Matlal:

Quote
Not so loud! And, really, at least let me answer your first question before you heap on a pile of others.</p>
<p>As I said, I was just finishing my residency - you see, in the title Witch Doctor, the emphasis is on doctor in this case - when we received word that the Kahaleitzli had died. Not only would we need to return for his burial, but as unwed, educated young men of the world, it would be expected of us to participate in the Trial of Kings.</p>
<p>The Trial, quite simply, is a race to the mountain top. Each hopeful chooses his or her - Oh perhaps I should interject here, that Trial of Kings is more of a ceremonial name and that a woman may serve as Queen and High Priestess Kahaleitzli. There have been several great queens of the islands, in fact.</p>
<p>Oh yes, right, forgive me. Each hopeful is to choose their own path up the mountain, and they who reach the summit first is named champion and rules for their natural life. As you have easily seen on this very journey, the dense jungle is not easy to traverse, even as a group. Many of the candidates are lost in the journey, their bodies never recovered and consumed by the island.</p>
<p>My brother and I boarded a ship home at once, and while I had initially intended to compete with him in earnest for the name of Kahaleitzli, something soon changed my mind.
My brother confessed to me on our journey that he was failing his courses. Now in academic probation, he was sure he would soon be kicked out of school.</p>
<p>It is not so often that we islanders choose to live a more “modern” or “conventional” life, and so his failure next to my success was a great source of shame for him. He had never really fit in amongst his fellow islanders, and now found that it seemed he fit in nowhere. He confided in me that he truly wished to win the Trial of Kings and earn back the sense of worth that he had lost in himself.
I loved my brother deeply, I still love my brother deeply, and so on our voyage we concocted a plan: while we would each at first seem to choose our own path up the mountain, we would meet in secret along the trails and until my last breath was spent, I would ensure he made it to that mountaintop.</p>
<p>Such things are forbidden, you have no doubt guessed, for it provides an unfair advantage. Perhaps the gods, old and new, will one day judge me for it, but I will never believe that my actions were wrong, even if I must drown for eternity in that cursed sea witch’s watery abyss as penance.
I suppose the fate of that Trial of Kings is easily guessed, for my brother still bears the name Kahaleitzli. We were successful in our ruse, and I prepared to return to Centropolis to finish my residency and take up practice in earnest.</p>
<p>As I packed for my return voyage, the newly crowned king came to me and made another confession: he was terrified to rule alone. My love for him knows no bounds, and I alone knew the secrets that he was quickly burying himself with, and so again we concocted a story together so that I might remain at his side for some time. We decided that being bested by my younger brother at such an honoured task had rattled my confidence, and so I would take a small sabbatical at home before returning abroad.

(Your brother is also a nice guy). Matlal smiles at you, honestly and warmly.

Quote

To make this long story a little shorter, he was simply never ready to rule alone, and if I am honest with myself, I was never ready to let him spread his wings for fear of watching him fall. My “short sabbatical” became longer and longer, and the quirks of my “shattered confidence” soon grew into budding madness to justify it. Lies piled upon secrets, and then upon more lies, and soon my budding madness had become outright insanity.</p>
<p>And then all that business with the sea witch.
(You meant Merana)?
Quote
Shh, do not let her name pass your lips, for names have great power. In any case, that is a different story for a different time, and is also a long story that grows longer each day. Perhaps I will tell you more later.

(I see. But what is the real name of your brother)?

Quote
His real name is Kahaleitzli. If you mean his birth name, that is not mine to tell. Though, if you’re so intent on learning a secret…
He casts another look around to ensure that the two of you are not being observed before removing his headdress. He flips it over so that you can see the underside of the skull, revealing that it is unpainted papier mache. He places it back on his head with a wink.
Now go and rest, I’ve taken up enough time and we have a long journey over rough terrain ahead of us.

Stop it with the curse. I’ve heard enough about this, and I cannot stress this enough, entirely fictional curse. I have heard enough to last me for the rest of my life and whatever lies
beyond. I’m done. No more.

Matlal

Quote
FINE, MAYBE IS GHOST

Kahaleitzli gives his brother a withering look.

Saggitarius:

Quote
Graverobbers, curses, ghosts - who cares? Will someone get inside that damn tomb and see if it has any treasure!?

(To your surprise, this tomb is filled with gold, jewels, and other ornate objects. Clearly, someone very important was buried here, and they wanted them to be well taken care of in the afterlife. There is no sign that anything has been touched in a long time, and no hint of whomever lit the torches outside. You decide to go back to base camp with the news.)

Saggitarius:

Quote
Well, that was easy. Victory party around the fire tonight, and then back to civilization with a big pile of cash tomorrow.

Kahaleitzli

Quote
I suppose you are correct, you’ve fulfilled your duty to me and our contract is complete. And yet…

Matlal

Quote
BUT MAP

Saggitarius:

Quote
Listen, you can stomp through the jungle and get attacked by wild animals all you like, but I was here for the money. My job is done, now I get paid, and then I leave. If you want to pay me more to investigate some map given to a scatter-brained manchild by a mysterious nobody, that’s another story, but as it stands I am out of here.

Kahaleitzli

Quote
I see. Unfortunately, I simply cannot afford to spare any more of the gold. I appreciate all the effort you went to for our benefit, and will be sad to see you leave us tomorrow.

Steel

Quote
Aw, c’mon, Dom. Where’s your spirit of adventure? Gold can’t buy you memories, buddy. You used to be a dragon slayer, man, where’d that spark go?

Saggitarius

Quote
“Dom”? First of all, cut that right out - We’re not friends. Second of all, I can’t pay my staff in “adventure”, Blake. My shareholders don’t accept “cherished memories” as a dividend. Do you know what a dragon slayer is, Blake? Do you really know? Because it’s essentially an exterminator, only the pests are a lot bigger. I didn’t get my money from mommy and daddy, Blake, I worked hard for a long time to earn what I have.

Steel: (Blake seems uncharacteristically annoyed.)

Quote
You’re making some bold statements and saying my name like a swear word and I don’t really know if I’m feeling that, “Dom”.

Saggitarius

Quote
Oh, did you want to hear some swear words, you little-

Kahaleitzli Kahaleitzli interrupts loudly.

Quote
Gentlemen, please!

Matlal

Quote
INDOOR VOICE, BUDDY!

Kahaleitzli (Kahaleitzli mostly ignores his brother, but he does give him a sideways glance, his tired eyes glittering with a hint of amusement.)

Quote
Saggitarius, a moment, please. Perhaps Blake hasn’t phrased it in the correct way, but I do agree with the sentiment. I think he was trying to communicate - You would be a great asset on this journey.

Kahaleitzli

Quote
While I cannot promise more gold from what we have already recovered here, there may be more treasure awaiting us wherever this map leads. If I recall correctly, the last map that Blake received led him to a very rewarding place.

Steel His annoyance, quick to grow, has also quickly simmered away.

Quote
That’s true! It was really cool! We fought a minotaur and found a glowing rock. Oh, and, like, a whole forgotten pet species preserved in time.

Saggitarius: (His eyes light up).

Quote
Oh yes, that little.. Bhakoru? Or whatever it’s called? I suppose I could be convinced to continue on this journey in exchange for, oh, exclusive marketing rights for any new pet species discovered this time?

Matlal

Quote
WHAT IF NO PET???

Kahaleitzli:

Quote
Shh, we’re making progress.

Saggitarius

Quote
I’m just putting that example out there. I also expect a fair share of anything we find. If I decide to continue, that is. I’ll sleep on it tonight.

Kahaleitzli:

Quote
You are most gracious. We should all settle down for the night, all meanings intended.

Day 5

Saggitarius

Quote
After sleeping on our conversation from the other day, I’ve agreed to continue on the journey up the mountainside. Something is up there waiting for us. I’m hoping that it’s a valuable something, but I’m willing to concede on an interesting something.</p>
<p>The camp is packed and we’re ready to depart, whatever awaits us.</p>
<p>Join the Expedition!</p>
<p>

Kahaleitzli

Quote
I&;ve been thinking more and more about that map you received. I&;ve caught glimpses of it, but never really viewed the whole thing. Do you mind if I have a look?

Steel

Quote
Go ahead, my man.

Kahaleitzli.

Quote
Interesting. This map seems to lead us to the summit of the mountain, but I can&;t think of anything that might be located up there.

Matlal

Quote
STUPID, IS TOMB OF FIRST KING

Kahaleitzli

Quote
Don&;t be absurd, that is a myth.
Matlal
Quote
SO YOU SAYS!

Kahaleitzli

Quote
So reality says, Matlal. His body was lost. A dead man with no body doesn&;t require a tomb to lay his remains to rest in.

Steel

Quote
Hey there, can you fill the rest of the class in?

Kahaleitzli

Quote
Of course, my apologies. My brother is referring to the Tomb of the First King of the islands. He gave his life in a heroic act, and his body was lost. Long in our history has the myth of his tomb persisted. There are some writings about it, saying that it is a place of great power, however our scholars have long since determined that the stories were likely allegorical. The stories are more about living a life worth of honor and leaving a powerful legacy than they are about an actual magical tomb with no body in it.

Steel

Quote
But, I mean, it could be real, right?

Kahaleitzli He sighs, beleaguered.

Quote
It&;s unlikely.

Steel

Quote
Well, like, go with me on this one: stranger things have happened, right? Like... we&;re finding gold to pay off an evil mermaid.

Saggitarius

Quote
As much as I am disappointed to be agreeing with Blake, he has a point. The last map pointed to a long lost temple, why shouldn&;t this one point to a long lost tomb?

Matlal

Quote
HE MAKE GOOD POINT!

Kahaleitzli He looks at everyone with disbelief before finally throwing his hands up in defeat

Quote
Fine, we’ll go find the stupid tomb!

Saggitarius

Quote
No one makes a map to nowhere. It’s pointing to something, and while it may not be this… quasi-mythical tomb, it is still worth investigating.

Kahaleitzli

Quote
I understand. Apparently majority rules for this expedition, and I am just going to set aside the fact that I am a literal king and go with it.

Steel

Quote
But wait... before we set off, I think Elwood has a bit of a surprise for us!

Elwood

Quote
I sure do. You guys were all looking pretty weary, and I happen to have just the thing for reaching volcano summits in record time. Why couldn’t I just have helped you out from the start? Why couldn’t the eagles just fly the ring to Mount Doom to begin with? Because that would have been a much shorter film, for starters.

Steel

Quote
Elwood, nobody understands it when you make these references.

Elwood

Quote
Anyway, come with me and we’ll get the next leg of the journey over in no time.

Steel

Quote
Oh man, the summit of the mountain is looming. The secret of the mountain will be revealed! It’s gotta be a mummy, right? Please let it be a mummy. I want to punch a mummy so bad.

Elwood

Quote
What do you have against mummies?

Steel

Quote
I’m sure most of them are perfectly charming remains, it’s just… when you were a kid, did you ever see Denver Smith and the Tomb of Ruin? Well remember when he escapes the palace through the tunnels and ends up in the hidden tomb, and then the cultists awaken the mummy, and his gun falls into the bottomless pit so he has to punch it? The mummy, not the pit.</p>
<p>That is simultaneously the funniest and most thrilling moment I have ever experienced; well, I guess except for magic camp, that was pretty cool, too. My point is, though, I have been through so many tombs trying to recreate that. I want my Denver Smith moment, damn it.

Saggitarius

Quote
It does sound rather satisfying…

Steel

Quote
So let’s get up that damn volcano and punch a mummy!

We saw a nice animation where Elwood drives everybody to the next tomb. Unfortunately the animation is gone.

Hey do you mind if I pop in for a sec? I know this isn’t really my plot, but I’m thinking you send the user in to check things out? All of you guys seem like pretty integral plot characters at the moment and the other NPCs seem like more of a game device, so I figure if one of you is going to die, it’s not going to be until the end.

Steel

Quote
Dude, cut it out. I already told you no one understands you when you talk like that, and no one’s going to die.

Elwood

Quote

…Kahaleitzli?

Elwood

Quote
Ain’t no one got time to spell that. But my point is, someone died last time, and it would definitely be some dark symmetry. Also, that’s just how things work: People die during plots, or wreck the timeline, or discover someone was dead all along. I’m telling you, one of you is staying in this tomb as a permanent resident.

Wait, who was dead all along?
