There’s some scrawls in the Islander Native language that you cannot decipher. Kahaleitzli reads them for you:

2 and 8 pins of one use apiece 7 squares must fit to enact the release Uniform size they need not be Complete the puzzle to win the key!

I solve the puzzle and I got a bronze key.

Elwood

Quote
A key? Oh, I get it, it’s going to be a series of rooms with each one unlocking in the next until you get all four keys. Cute.

Saggitarius

Quote
I’m going to continue to be the “vibe killer”, but someone else opened that first door.

Kahaleitzli

Quote
Actually, I think someone opened two doors - the main temple door was open, also.
If the stranger was able to come this far, what stopped them from collecting all the keys for themselves and plundering the temple? What was the point of sending you the map if they were already here?

Steel

Quote
Maybe it’s not about treasure…

Saggitarius

Quote
I swear to Shinwa if you say “it’s about adventure”, you’re going into the volcano.

Steel

Quote
I wasn’t, I promise! I don’t know what it’s about, but just… maybe treasure isn’t it.

Kahaleitzli

Quote
Well, let’s not sit around and wait to find it out, perhaps? Go, open the bronze door.

The bronze key seems like it would fit the bronze lock on this door. With a sense of trepidation, you move the key toward the lock, but Blake stops you.[/b]

Steel

Quote
Wait! We should wait for tomorrow!

Saggitarius

Quote
Aw, what happened to your “sense of adventure”?

Steel

Quote
Well, it’s just…we don’t know what we’re going to find in there. It could be another puzzle like that first room, but there could also be danger in there. We should wait until we’re well rested before diving in.

Saggitarius

Quote
I can’t believe it, but I agree.

Elwood

Quote
Absolutely. If I was going to drop another battle challenger into the mix, it would be now, and I wouldn’t personally want to be fighting it in a dark, enclosed space on anything but full energy.

I agree to wait until tomorrow to open the Bronze Door.

MATLAL HAVE THEORY!

Kahalaitzli

Quote
This should be good.

Steel

Quote
Go ahead, buddy.

Matlal

Quote
OKAY SO MAYBE PERSON WHO CAME BEFORE US GET CURSED

Kahaleitzli He doesn’t even try to contain his eyeroll.

Quote
They were cursed by the second room? One would think that a curse would encompass the entirety of the tomb and so one would be cursed upon entering the front door. Of course, there is also the compelling fact that none of us appear to be suffering from a curse. Now, I’m no curse scientist, but I’ve always considered curses to be equal opportunity in those whom they strike.

Matlal

Quote
NOT ALL CURSES SAME, MAYBE THIS ONE ONLY A CURSE FOR CERTAIN PEOPLE. MAYBE THE PERSON SEND LETTER BECAUSE THEY CANNOT GO MORE.

Elwood

Quote
Oh dang, you’re being Jafar’d.

Steel

Quote
Dude, come on. I already said no one understands.

Elwood

Quote
No, you know in Aladdin? When Jafar needs to find someone to enter the cave of wonders for him because he can’t get in? Diamond in the rough?

Steel

Quote
Are you even speaking Subetan?

Elwood

Quote
It’s a movie. You know what, nevermind, I will just explain. Okay, so in the movie, there is a villain. The villain needs to get into a magical cave, but only certain people are able to enter the cave, and even then, only certain people are allowed to touch certain treasures. The villain has to find a gullible dummy that is pure of heart to enter the cave for him.

Matlal

Quote
THAT EXACTLY IT.

Steel

Quote
Are you calling me a gullible idiot?

Elwood Shrugs.

Saggi Conspicuously avoids eye contact.

Steel

Quote
Screw you guys. Let’s get that door open.

I go into the tomb and see a new puzzle.

Match the pieces to the board Do not fret to use new bearing All must fit to win reward Use it wisely, true and daring

After some time I have entertain with it:

Elwood

Quote
Hey, I was wrong, no battle! That’s good. Aladdin almost dies in the cave of wonders, by the way.

Steel

Quote
Cut it out, that’s not funny.

Kahaleitzli

Quote
We have a new key. Perhaps, instead of arguing about some story, we could proceed to the next door?

Saggitarius

Quote
You seem awfully eager to get through these rooms for someone that didn’t believe there was a tomb in the first place.

Kahaleitzli

Quote
What do you mean by that?

Saggitarius

Quote
Well, you did organize the journey up the mountainside…

Matlal

Quote
HEY, BACK OFF-

Kahaleitzli

Quote
Ah yes, my devious plan to come all the way up the mountain, find a lost temple, then do nothing with it. For the second part of my plan, I go all the way back to the village, send a letter to someone we all agree is a gullible idiot, then hire you at no small cost to take me on the same journey I apparently completed only days ago alone, if the lit torches are any indication.

Perhaps, for the third part of my plan, I’ll cast you all into the volcano because I am such an untrustworthy and unscrupulous character. You know, instead of keeping you in the village and giving the lot of you to the witch, which would instantly solve my problem. I’m honestly not sure which of you is the bigger idiot.

Saggitarius

Quote
Well you did pull that stunt a few years back-

Steel

Quote
STOP. We can’t fight with each other. We’re going to run into something or someone in this place, eventually, and we need to be united when it happens! Annet, go open that Iron Door.

I approach the Iron Door. Gripping the key you insert it into the lock and it turns easily. You’re not sure what you expected, but something more than that. Your heart in your throat, you slowly ease the door open.

Steel

Quote
Wow, I guess a tomb can’t sit forgotten without time taking a toll, but wow. Looks like another puzzle in there. Well, head on in, friend!

Saggitarius He stops you immediately.

Quote
Absolutely not! This is a clear violation of SOHA regulations.

Matlal

Quote
WHAT “SOHA”?

Saggitarius

Quote
It’s the Subeta Occupational Hazard Administration. I cannot let anyone enter this room until proper safety precautions have been taken.

Steel

Quote
C’mon, man, there are no SOHA reps here.

Saggitarius

Quote
Ethics are the things that you do when no one is watching. I cannot allow any of our employees to enter a potentially dangerous work site.

Steel Sighs, defeated.

Quote
Fine, better safe than sorry.

Saggitarius

Quote
You there, go and get some rest. Blake and I will work through the night to make sure the room is safe to enter tomorrow.

Steel

Quote

I agree to come back in the morning.

Hello again, outsider. What is it that I can do for you?

I told him what I have spoke with Matlal

Kahaleitzli

Quote
Oh, goodness, aren’t you a brave one? I hope he wasn’t too rude to you. Please forgive him, his mind has grown fragile over the years.

Rude? No not at all. He was nice! Het told me the trial of kings.

Kahaleitzli

Quote
Did he, then? You’re very patient to listen to his ramblings about the past. He so rarely has someone to speak to, so thank you for paying him such a kindness.

Your majesty, your brother was really nice to me! He loves you and he told about the truth about the trial of kings

Kahaleitzli Kahaleitzli looks at you cautiously.

Quote
The ravings of a mad man. Surely you can see that his mind is no longer with him. It is best not to put too much trust in his mutterings, or to waste your time considering them too deeply.

Your majesty, I’m not agree what you say about your brother. (I told him that the real Matlal told about the real trial of kings)

Kahaleitzli Kahaleitzli is stunned into silence for a moment. A mixture of unnameable emotions runs across his face in quick succession.

Quote
Everything?

I nod.

Kahaleitzli He sighs, defeated.

Quote
I suppose he told you all about Amy, as well?

What do you mean?

Kahaleitzli

Quote
Oh, wonderful! As per usual, I’ve managed to fall head first into something way out of my depth - It’s almost poetic, isn’t it? Well, sit down, the story starts with the sea witch.

What about Merana?

Kahaleitzli

Quote
Shh, do not use her name! She was not always a presence on these islands. It was only a few generations ago that she was imprisoned here in the waters and we paid her no mind, for she seldom seemed to bother us- well, save for her tantrums that violently stirred the seas.

Then, suddenly, it seemed that her power was growing. Animals of the islands began to carry the taint of her dark magic within them - I believe you call this darkness Hydrus?

No, I don't undertand. ESPECIALLY YOU AND MATLAL ARE FRIENDS WITH HER! I saw it on her NPC user profile. There is so much I don't know and understand. How could you talk about with fear if you are at the same moment friends with the same person?

Kahaleitzli

Quote
Be careful with such a thing. The animals affected by it are enchanting to look upon, but in the case of those animals and the creature that created them, beauty is a lovely mask for wickedness to wear. Know, also, that this “Hydrus” can affect mankind as well, and the results are far less charming.

Could you tell me more please?

Kahaleitzli

Quote
“Hydrus” swept through the islands like a plague, draining the vitality from everyone it touched. At the same time, the seas grew so treacherous that to fish upon them was a death sentence of another kind. The Kahaleitzli at the time searched for any cure that might aid his people, but finally had to turn to the witch herself in order to stop the rampaging pestilence and famine.

She asked for three things in return: our reverence, our gold, and our blood. As far as I understand, our reverence and gold serve the same purpose, for vanity is a fickle beast. The blood, on the other hand… Well, I have never quite deduced its purpose.

Regardless of its purpose, however, the offering of blood had always been voluntary - for the good of our people, someone would choose to pay the ultimate price once per year. It was always considered a bittersweet occasion. The summer festival was held in their honor, everyone knowing that at the end of it all, the terrible sea would sleep again.

You’ve seen the village, now. It is but a shadow of what it once was. Many of our people have chosen to leave and set up new homes around Subeta. I cannot blame them, for who could truly rest well raising a family here, knowing that one day tradition may call upon them to leave all that they love? Volunteers have grown quite scarce in recent years.

How was the year after Amy died?

Kahaleitzli

Quote
We had only one volunteer that year - my brother, Matlal. The other islanders counted it as a blessing, for they only know the raving madman. They thought it was a fitting end to two problems.

Stone-faced, he looks slightly past you instead of at you, though his eyes seem to glisten with a bit of extra moisture.

Quote
I- we, I now suppose- know the truth of him. I could not let that happen. He had already given too much away for me. Piece by piece, he gave up who he was to keep me strong. To hide my secrets. I would not make him give up a single thing more. Finally, I had to be a king on my own, and make a decision envied by no one: I invited outsiders to the summer festival to die.

And what thought Matlal about it?

, I've more text.

He was furious. He wanted to evacuate the island, you see? He told me that it would be an honor to die for his people and ensure the calm seas that would carry them away to their new homes, free forever from such terrible choices.

I had a different perspective: How could I possibly expect everyone to leave their homes and lands, the lands of their birth and the resting place of the ancestors forever? How could I let our glorious empire end as crumbled ruins and a footnote in some explorer’s journal? He and I did not become Kahaleitzli for that - and I do mean we, for he is the king that works in the shadows, away from the eyes of our people.

His stoic expression finally breaks, and he looks away from you for a moment to hide the tears that streak down his cheeks. He clears his throat, raising his hand as if to block a cough, but quickly and subtly wipes his eyes instead.

Quote
We fought about it quite extensively… said some hurtful things. I don’t think our relationship has ever quite recovered from that day.

Why Amy?

Kahaleitzli

Quote
It was not my goal to cut her young life so short. It was not even a possibility that I had entertained when the outsiders were invited. She was chosen by the witch, not by me, though I will forevermore have her blood on my hands.

I can never tell you why she was chosen for I truly do not know, but her end was brought about by my hand, and my hand alone. I hope that you do not judge all islanders based upon my actions that day, for they only did what was ordered by their king.

I don’t Judge quickly. And I'll certainly not judge when I know something, but still don't understand. So what’s the point?

( Kahaleitzli gives me a long, resigned look)

Quote
“Some burdens are for a king alone to bear.”

Your majesty, could you tell me your name please?

Kahaleitzli

Quote
It’s Metzal - “second son”. My place was set from the beginning.

(He laughs wearily.)

Nice to talk with you, your majesty.

Everyone seems quite tired and worn down. You decide to move straight on to the Silver Room.

You approach the Silver Door. With shaking hands, you insert the key into the lock and… hit something. The key will not turn. Removing the key and peering into the keyhole, you see that it is full of debris.

Steel

Quote
What, it’s full of junk? No problem, we’ll just blast that door open and go straight on!

It's a global battle; everyone is fighting the same boss, and the more damage you do, the more prizes you'll earn. If your pet is in the top (whatever amount) in their tier they'll get an extra prize

if you don't place for your pet's tier, or care about earning the did-Z-amount-of-damage prizes instead of buying them off someone who did fight, it's the 'heroism' part of the plot. You get to pretend one or more of your pets goes and helps all of subeta pull off a one in a million win at the crux of the movie, if you like.

It's not necessary to a site event, but some find it fun so a phase like this is often included. Not everyone likes battling and battling can get to be quite the expensive hobby and involves training over larger amounts of time than a site event usually lasts, so it is seldom required.

Normally I'd be in on the fighting but all the 502 and 504 errors are bugging me, so I'm sitting this one out. I'm going to be restocking in official shops while the battlers are preoccupied so I can earn the sP to buy the prizes from them later. Now's also a good time to stalk Subeautique and the Black Heart Hollow

You approach the central door and fit each key into its corresponding lock. Turning them, they all move freely and make a satisfying click. As the final gold key is turned, some larger locking mechanism inside the door itself springs to life. Several seconds of grinding and thumping noises pass, then silence.

Elwood

Quote
That’s unexpected.

Steel

Quote
His eyes glitter with excitement
Open it!

Saggitarius

Quote
Though he would never admit it, his voice is tinged with a hint of awe. It will be too heavy. Everyone, together.

The teams line up at the door, each taking one half. On the count of three, the doors are heaved open. The ancient hinges squeal in protest, the doors themselves sagging and scraping the uneven floor. Eventually, a space wide enough to pass through is opened, a gust of stale air escaping the dark chamber beyond. A noise stirs inside.

Steel

Quote
That’s not a good sound.

Saggitarius

Quote
LIGHT! We need light!

Elwood

Quote
Oh yeah, put the battle challenger in the big room, predictable.

Aides rush over with flashlights, torches, and whatever else they can get their hands on. Oh no. Oh NO. Inside the room, treasure glitters in the light, but something else stirs within and it isn’t happy.
