Bio: Originally from the western United States. Samantha's parents, Nathan and Maggie Grant, are both Pure-bloods but her mother is virtually a squib who can only make potions. Affectionately known as Magpie, Samantha's mother taught her that magic isn't what defines a person, and muggles aren't really all that different from wizards. Growing up in the wilds of the eastern Sierra Nevada, Samantha, (who prefers to be called Sam) had a cave of goblins and an elderly muggle prospector as her closest neighbors. In fact her first magic was a levitation spell to get the Gold hunting muggle's panicked burro down from the tree branches where angry goblins had hoisted it. Sam's father Nathan is a descendant of Matthew Grant of N. England who fled west after using a confundus spell to get acquitted of witchcraft in 1649. All of the Grant males were parselmouths, and gifted at languages both human and non-human. Nathan originally worked for the Wizarding Bank of the West. His ability to speak the Goblin language (Goblins hate the term Gobbledygook) got him transferred to the British Isles, and helped re-ingratiate the wizard bankers with the goblins of Gringotts after the "Dark Wizard Incident". Sam is the first girl of the Grant line able to speak with snakes, and her king snake Chua is her best friend.

His father eventually divorced his mother and left when Vin was only 4, leaving him and his Muggle mother. One year later was when Vin began to learn about his magical talents, as well as when it was revealed that his father was a wizard. Vin's mother wanted to lead a simple Muggle life for all of them, but eventually Vin's mother and father came to an argument, and that was when they divorced. For several years Vin had been teaching himself magic with his father's spellbooks that he left behind, presumably for Vin to use. Parts of these books contained dark arts spells, however most of them were torn out, all but necromancy. On the first page of necromancy was a note paperclipped to it, asking Vin to promise to not to abuse necromancy, and to not allow the dark art of necromancy consume him. Vin, knowing the note was from his father, swore to keep his word, and began he recreational use of necromancy, however still much less than others spells in his father's book. After the first term ball, Vin decided to join Hogwarts to further his learning of magic.

Although many would think the practice of a dark art would reflect greatly on its user, Vin's will and recreational use has allowed little room for darkness to touch his soul. This is evident in his upbeat, albeit slightly shy attitude. He is very loyal to his companions, but is slow to trust in people despite his lighthearted behavior. If he is angry at someone, he doesn't usually turn to a heated attitude, but rather a cold, ironic, and dry tone. In the end, Vin only wishes to rise above the rest in order to achieve his goals.

Although she comes from a Muggle family, when she received her letter from Hogwarts, her mother admitted that Harper's great-grandfather was a very "eccentric" man and may have been in fact a wizard. He had died when her mother was very young, however, and most of what she heard about him had been rumors. Harper is currently an only child, though as of her first day at Hogwarts, her parents are expecting their second child. As excited as she is to be starting at Hogwarts, she's also a little apprehensive on what being away most of the year will mean for her and her family.

Quidditch has always held an important place in the Hale household. The family frequently watch Quidditch matches together and even attended the 2014 Quidditch World Cup. During his time at Durmstrang Institute, Beth's father was a Keeper for the Durmstrang Quidditch team. He is an avid supporter of the German National Quidditch team. Beth’s mother is also an avid fan of the sport, though she holds preference for the Spanish National Quidditch team. Both of them, however, have found equal support and respect for the American National Quidditch team. Her parents gifted Beth and her sisters their own Firebolt Supremes as a back-to-school gift. Despite all this, the Hale girls were never taught to fly by their parents as they wanted their children to learn it at school.

The Sorting Hat had a difficult time placing Beth before it finally bellowed out Ravenclaw into the Great Hall. Upset that Lyn and her were not sorted into the same House, Beth often wonders if the Sorting Hat made the right choice in placing her in Ravenclaw. Although separated into different houses, she knows that both she and her sister will achieve great things in Ravenclaw and Gryffindor respectively. Since starting at Hogwarts, Beth has regarded Ravenclaw Tower as her favorite place in the castle. The courtyard is another one of her favorite places; she absolutely loves spending her breaks between classes there.

Bio: Emelia (who prefers "Emmy") grew up in a small village in the Welsh countryside. She is a muggleborn, but after arriving at Hogwarts and doing some genealogical research, she found out that her great-great-grandfather on her Mum's side was a wizard. Her family includes her mother, father, younger brother and a multitude of pets (three cats, a dog, two horses and multiple rodents and reptiles). Her best friend Aderyn lives in the same village as her, but Emmy did not know her friend was a witch until after she'd gotten her own Hogwarts letter and visit, explaining that she was a witch too.

Emmy had always been animal crazy, and the feeling only intensified when she arrived at Hogwarts to find a whole array of magical creatures waiting for her to discover. She wants to be a Magizoologist when she graduates from Hogwarts, though she's not sure if she'd like to work for the Regulation of Magical Creatures department at the Ministry or if she'd prefer to conduct her own independent research.

Emmy is a very friendly, outgoing and enthusiastic girl, who loves to talk and make friends, but also loves to have quiet sometimes so she can just curl up and read. She almost always has one of her pets or some other creature nearby, frequently sneaking creatures from outside into the dorms (and sometimes getting into trouble for it).
