Katsumi is fluent in both Japanese and English, and she loves the cultures of both lands. She was a bright child, eagerly taking in everything she could from the world around her. Her half-blood mother believed it was important for her daughter to understand the Muggle world as well as the world of wizards, particularly since Rei ended up going into a Muggle line of work. Magic and technology have both played significant roles in

Katsumi's life, and she is just as comfortable on the internet as casting spells, though nowhere near as dependent on technology as most Muggles seem to be.

When Katsumi turned seven, her parents started spending more time in Japan, so that she could attend day school at Mahoutokoro. They recognized Katsumi's love of learning, and wanted to nurture it. Her father, however, has been quite insistent: Katsumi would attend Hogwarts once she turned eleven. Katsumi herself doesn't see either school as necessarily better; as long as they present her with sufficiently engaging and challenging material, she does not have a preference.

Katsumi tends to be a reserved individual. Not that she doesn't have emotions, but she does not tend to display her joy or sadness as openly as most. She can be proud, looking down on those who are not so academically inclined, or who do not put forth their best effort. She can also be judgmental, expecting others to meet her own high standards. She has a bit of a temper, and tends to frown on frivolousness. She is slow to make friends, but once she does she is staunchly loyal, and will defend them fiercely.

His father eventually divorced his mother and left when Vin was only 4, leaving him and his Muggle mother. One year later was when Vin began to learn about his magical talents, as well as when it was revealed that his father was a wizard. Vin's mother wanted to lead a simple Muggle life for all of them, but eventually Vin's mother and father came to an argument, and that was when they divorced. For several years Vin had been teaching himself magic with his father's spellbooks that he left behind, presumably for Vin to use. Parts of these books contained dark arts spells, however most of them were torn out, all but necromancy. On the first page of necromancy was a note paperclipped to it, asking Vin to promise to not to abuse necromancy, and to not allow the dark art of necromancy consume him. Vin, knowing the note was from his father, swore to keep his word, and began he recreational use of necromancy, however still much less than others spells in his father's book. After the first term ball, Vin decided to join Hogwarts to further his learning of magic.

Although many would think the practice of a dark art would reflect greatly on its user, Vin's will and recreational use has allowed little room for darkness to touch his soul. This is evident in his upbeat, albeit slightly shy attitude. He is very loyal to his companioms, but is slow to trust in people despite his lighthearted behavior. If he is angry at someone, he doesn't usually turn to a heated attitude, but rather a cold, ironic, and dry tone. In the end, Vin only wishes to rise above the rest in order to achieve his goals.
