People asked if Alexander could request a wider range of books because prices were getting inflated. Now he's asking for two books for some quests and book prices are even worse.
I have to agree. Him sometimes asking for two books is just making their prices worse, not giving them a chance to deflate.
As I write this it's been 33 minutes since the Book Nook last restocked which doesn't help the situation.
There are two books from Atebus he never asks for - The Discovery of Atebus and The Life and Times of the Ikumoradeekanox. Perhaps these could be added.
PS: It's now been 40 minutes.
Yeah, I'm starting to notice this too when I was doing the Library quests. Yesterday he kept asking for My Life as a Blood Drinker which was beginning to be expensive. Hope this improves!
yeah library keep asking the same thing over and over. and in twos. what's up with that? hoarding is unhealthy dear Alexander.
I've been trying to boost my pet's intelligence and I too have noticed that even some low rarity books are currently going for over 50k. Book Nook not RSing for over 30 minutes is one issue, Library quests are one, and the fact that a handful of people are buying books from other users' shops and selling them on at a higher price (which they have every right to do, of course, that's how economy works) isn't helping. And 'tis the season of gift-giving, which might have some impact on prices as well.
Unfortunately I have no suggestions on how to change this. The recent change to Library Quests means that instead of a few ridiculously super expensive books we now have a lot of more moderately expensive, but still expensive, books. That's sort of ok from the perspective of LQs but pretty annoying for those who are simply buying books to read for their pets. Perhaps it's still too early to see how the prices will develop. At the moment, though, I'm not buying any reading materials from user shops.
Edit: Oh, and Alexander's probably asking constantly for the same items because his requests have a maximum price limit now and because the book prices are so inflated not many items can be found that would be below that price.
Book Nook hasn't restocked for 44 minutes this time. :(
I'd give it some time to see if prices settle down again. The changes are still new, and I'm not convinced things will stay like this. Prices aren't ridiculous, anyway. Just a bit undesirable. Around 25k-40k is a bit excessive for the rarity, but not for questing, especially since the Library will give out items worth way more then that.
What I am concerned about is that there are clearly still some books that are not included in the quest pool, despite this being pointed out numerous times.
Some more books from Atebus which Alexander never asks for - Atebus Rocks Identification Guide, Build Your Own Spaceship and The Truth about Matters.
For anyone who hasn't been following, there was a dialogue about the changes in another thread starting here.
I just whizzed through my quests and the prices were fair, maybe 20 - 30k for most books, which is a lot less than I was paying before the changes. It looks like a fair amount of them had been gamed, however, with large quantities stocked and notably lower prices on the 'Average Price Today' hover, which I know factors into the items requested.
As stated above, there's not a lot that can be done about the bulk sellers but eh, maybe look at the formula which generates item requests to guarantee a broader amount are asked for to make them less prone to manipulation.
One book costing 20K-30K for a quest is OK. Asking for two books costing that much for a quest is a bit much.
It's a lot worse than just Atebus books. There's a whole chunk of Book Nook books that haven't inflated with the rest, and I can't remember being asked for in Library quests at all in the last few months, if not the last year or more. I'd list them, but it would be a long list; there's at least forty or fifty of them.
This is true. I just hope it can be sorted out somehow.
I dunno, I think Library quests in general are improving.
I just finished my Library quests for the day, and out of all ten (all of which I was able to complete), six asked for two books, and the sP rewards were 57k, 65k, 76k, 83k, 30k, and 45k. That's not even counting the value of the Rare/Super Rare items he gave as rewards, or the Quest Points. Honestly it seems like it's pretty fair right now, but I realize things may fluctuate since the updates are still pretty new.
The changes Keith made just 4 days ago were supposed to widen the pool of books Alexander asks for (and, as far as I've noticed, they really did add a whole bunch of books I've never before seen in LQs). However, he also added a price cap and the prices of the newly requested books jumped, which (probably temporarily) narrowed the selection again as fewer books have the 'price today' that is under the cap.
Like we've seen with for example Maleria and Quentin, in time the prices for the items they request will settle around the cap, to 20-30k. For questing, I think that's fine; the payout is ok for that. However, for reading, 30k for really common books it too high for my liking.
The quests aren't too bad but yeah the books are a bit pricey...
Just to give you a little nudge---there are some users (waves) who need to buy books to read to our pets for job promotions. Some of us even have several pets who each need to read books. Tens of thousands for a 'really common'? No thanks.

I've been stalking the Book shop lately and I think it's restocking fairly often now, every 10-15 minutes.
Considering library quests give out rares+, the price of completing a quest isn't bad. There's also vending for those not wanting to spend so much on reading.
Vending used to be a great way of getting books. Since vending was changed, though, you're lucky to get even a low rarity book from Blue Sky.
