Anyone want to share stories about 'stupid things you've been warned about'?

Commented on two topics in the 'problems & bugs' area regarding the whole HA mouth rebellion thing going on (I'm so sick of my avatar being SO HAPPY), left, went to work. Came back to a few event notifications and had this sitting in said notifications:

"You have received a verbal warning for having an oversized forum image and/or signature. Forum images and signatures cannot exceed 450px in width and 325px in height, COMBINED. This includes all images, links, any text added in your signature, and regardless of images being left or right aligned. Any text added in the signature counts as 10px height per line."

I was really confused before realizing that my signature and forum image had been all wiped out. So, irritated, I went and changed the sizing a bit on my signature bit, which was a little over the recommended width (could've sworn it was 600px wide, but whatever). Went to re-add my forum image and am only that stupid purple experiment with an 'Oh No! Oh no, that isn't a valid image!' bs. And I just...augh, I'm so irritated right now. Just let me have my Autobot insignia in my thing, seriously.

My new signature with Wheeljack is 450x160. The forum image I'm trying to use is 228x224 and making it any smaller makes it look so ridiculous. I just don't understand why I get a warning about this NOW when I've literally had my forum image+signature set up for several months without any problems. Do I literally have to have them BOTH under 450x160 together? That is just - augh. I guess I'll be sticking with Wheeljack being solo down there.

Just...me ranting over here, ignore my irritation if you'd like or contribute with stupid things you've received warnings for. Fun times all around, right?

the rules for this are kinda complicated and I wish they just made them easier for everyone to understand. not everyone knows how to manipulate images or check their size, then they leave it up to you to do the math to combine the signature with the forum image. idk how the numbers came about, but I don't see a these dimensions stretching out forums any more... idk.

They should just have an automatic resizing option. The End. I'm always triple checking whenever I update my signature to avoid warnings.

or at least, I don't know, not allow you to submit something that's over the limit? resizing sounds good too.

I agree with this. I've been warned too. I thought I had calculated the size for my forum image and siggy correctly. :c

Now I'm scared to have a forum image and signature. I wish it was easier to check the sizes. It's such a simple mistake to make.

Yes, kinda. Like "Wow, slow down a minute homie. Your image is too big. Need help? Here, let me resize it for you." That's it. Or like, just tell me it's too big? Don't give warning for something this stupid.

Well, we have the posted images (The ones you add to posts yourself, ie reaction gifs of awesome.) resize automagically.... why can't forum signatures do that, too ?

I can go in paint and resize stuff a bit (what I did for my signature banner), but it still was just...a shock to the system I guess? I don't know, my stuff wasn't stretching out or messy, so I don't understand why it was such a big deal. Being allowed to submit stuff that is over the limit anyway is just ridiculous beyond reasoning.

Automatic resizing makes 9000% more sense to be honest! That would be great instead of a verbal warning slapped onto your face.

Right? I want my little Autobot insignia back up in my forum image, but now I'm scared of trying to put it back up and getting a warning again. Not even sure how many 'verbal' warnings one can get before something bad actually happens to them...

You're totally right - I guess I didn't notice that before. I did, just didn't think about it that much. Just...augh.

Lol, I'm so glad I'm not the only one that got a verbal warning about their signature+forum image being 'too big'. Makes me feel a little better. Still annoyed, but soothed at least.

Yea but remember that only resizes for imaged you manually add to a post, not resizing your signature image/forumtext image. I wish it resized the forumtextsig too.

unless that changed and it now does resize but then why a warning I don't know it's late I ate all the molasses cookies and made church graphics help

The main thing about this that really frustrates me is that the signature, and the forumtext/forum image are in separate places, but both count towards the total. They've always been on separate pages, and it's not really very clearly stated anywhere that your forum text adds 10px too, and you have to add the signature and the forum image size, and all of that. It should all be on one page with clearly stated instructions.

I once got a verbal warning for this same thing when I was having major problems getting mine right and I posted in the forums asking for help fixing it. A mod or admin saw my post asking for help and sent the warning for the over-sized images. That made me kind of grumpy, ngl.

I doubt there's a single one of us that's never gotten a warning for this... The rules ARE much clearer than they were 8 years ago, though. At least it's actually on the relevant pages now, instead of buried on the rules page.

I got a real warning for this >:[ years ago before they changed it to verbal warnings only. It sucks but because we can put multiple images the resizing will not work....it would have no idea what image you want to be what size etc.

Exactly - and that's where I was super confused. Because my signature was good, applied, and my forum image I thought was okay...but counting them together when they are in completely different areas and take up different space is just ridiculous.

The forum image+signature should all be on the same page if it counts towards the same width+length though. Having it on separate pages definitely doesn't help the whole confusing part.

I was curious if the verbal warning was visible anywhere? It seems completely BS to give someone a legit warning for their signature being a few pixels to wide+tall.

I think everyone on Subeta has had that warning before. I know I did for only a few pixels extra.

It's extra frustrating because it could be prevented by something simple like resizing or making everything more clear.

It just blew me out of the water because I had had my signature and forum image for...seriously, ages. At least since December? And to comment on a bugs forum about my HA's eternal happiness and then getting smacked with a warning was just - augh.

It needs to be clearer and if the two are going to be counted TOGETHER in their width+length, then I personally think they should be on the same page.

Nah verbal warnings are just....a stern talking to. Not an actual recorded warning. In other cases if you get enough verbal warnings you will get a real one but I think for this particular rule you will only get verbal warnings and your forumset cleared.

Really? I received an official warning for it,just a month or so ago, for my signature, with no other previous warning about it. Was that not supposed to happen? I am confused. It is why I have been reading this topic actually.

About a month or so ago. I was posting in the bug forum when it happened as well. Yes, it was simply a few pixels taller than it should have.
