It seems that every time I check, Keith -aka site owner and main programmer- is always MIA (though not without internet, as evidenced by his other social medias), I only see the CD when something new gets posted (ie: shinwa revamp & ontra poll), and any other subeta team members who can actually do anything onsite aren't actually ... on site? Based on the most recent log ins and most recent posts, the site's on but no one's home.
My site feedback regarding the continual and repeated absences of the subeta powers that be is that: If you want people to consistently invest money into your site, you need to consistently invest time.
I've watched staff involvement go down and down and down, and that could be fine if things were improving, getting fixed, getting finished (forumgroup/cults; forum recode; WARDROBE recode; general recode; achievements; etc), but they're not. All we get are the emtpy promises of "if we didn't care, we wouldn't -insert minor part of job here-" or "he is on [another] vacation" or "bad base code blah blah we're working on it".
My site feedback is that I am disappointed.
¯(ツ)/¯ mythical recode ~
Editing out Alx as he's not entirely technically staff or something. :P
And, as pointed out, hasn't posted in over a month, but may not be actively working for the site.
Yeah I thought alx worked for google and had for like a year now.
This one I just thought was humorous (I get that it is a bot acct):

- Does Alex still work for Subeta? I thought he left for Google years ago.

So Keith's twitter is just a blackhole of tmi.

A site like this needs to ALWAYS have at LEAST one programmer available at any given time. And available doesn't just mean working on back-end code. It means that if another staff member tries to contact them, they can respond immediately. It means they actually pay attention to the problems/bugs forum. It means if there's an issue, it can be fixed right away instead of days later (or at all).
There are so many bugs on this site that users have repeatedly reported but haven't been addressed in the slightest. A lot of them sound like they ought to be easy fixes, such as the way the beta wardrobe sorts items. If all the other programmers are actually busy with other things, then hire one more person. It makes the site look bad when there are many threads about issues without a single staff member post on them, or when it's well over a week when one finally does post on them.
inb4 omg staff deserves to have a life too!
This isn't an issue of oh look at Keith wasting money blah blah blah, this is a matter of the site feeling like a hotel that's on fire and having various staff members pop in to ask if we need more towels
I seriously would have left if it wasn't for the helpfulness of and . Both of them are amazing and helpful.
I honestly don't know, but had listed him in her mini rant about programmers and she's usually up to date on staff stuff.
I'm aware that people are going to have different perceptions of what they think I should be doing, and I'm going to fall short in some area or other for someone, but I'm not sure what you in particular, , are wanting from me with this board?
I spend a huge amount of my time both drawing and managing my team. I reply to posts when I'm pinged, I sometimes hint on suggestion boards that we like what's been suggested but I don't like to outright say 'Yes this is happening' everywhere, I like to have the items appear and for people to be pleased. I've recently been creating user suggestion or feedback boards for things that I actively know users and the art staff can work together with to create things that are both wanted and loved. I've been working with my team on correcting old items based on feedback boards given.
I often post as Subetateam or as NPCs. Every pet release is actually me. Generally anything to do with pets is me. I've been working on Pet Spotlight, pet overlays, things like that. The last few times I've tried being conversational with users I've basically been told that's not what they want, and that my time should be spent fixing things. So I've been doing that!
If people would like to talk to me about the art, or discuss anything then I am happy to. I keep an eye on Site Feedback/Revamp Feedback and the suggestions forums mainly to answer where I think I'm needed, but if I'm not pinged I could miss something that is deemed important. My primary function is behind the scenes - just because you don't see me posting, doesn't mean I'm not there most of the time!
Alex hasn't been proper staff for... ever? Last I knew he was left marked as staff in case we ever needed a hand in a pinch/something he coded/etc. But no, he isn't officially staff and has moved on to bigger and googlier things.
When we post as SubetaTeam or NPCs it doesn't mark the account as active, we usually only ever need to log in for that to update a HA or something.
We do the best to coordinate time off, but things do happen. For example I had a lot of work to do this coming weekend since I graduated last, but my grandmother died and I'll be gone kind unexpectedly now. We do everything we can to always have someone on-call (remember, Amber can do a fair amount of programming now, too), but having someone staffed 24 hours a day is not realistic for our site.
I just like to hear from staff, find out what's being worked on, and know that they exist and still care about the site. I frequently look at admin posts ao when there aren't many new ones, I get sorta disappointed. I understand people need some time off and that they can probably be reached if needed.
Sorry to hear about your grandmother :(
Well I will 100% own up to not being here since like Thursday through yesterday because I've been volunteering (something I'd had planned for a couple of months, so, no, Keith's problems with all his spotty internet and such weren't going to stop me from doing it). But if anything had come up that needed my attention I'd have made time for it. And, trust me, the UAs and Amber and Ariel have no qualms about coming to me with things that are a big deal even if they know I'm taking some time off. I have legitimately worked from my phone walking around Epcot while my mom complained that we were supposed to be on vacation.
Honestly, if I didn't trust that my coworkers would come to me, I probably wouldn't ever feel comfortable taking time off. The fact that I know they will if they need me is what makes it okay for me to step away for a few days at a time a couple of times a year.
"But if anything had come up that needed my attention I'd have made time for it."
I am literally scratching my head at this. There are more things on this site that "need attention" than there are things that are functioning correctly.
I feel like I'm definitely missing something here (thankfully, that does include Keith's dick pics ordeal or whatever the hell is going on via tumblr), but subeta isn't behaving any differently than it usually does?
.. so, I guess I don't understand what the problem is, currently, if the programmers are MIA-- especially if we all know Keith is on shitty internets right now (he's posted this only about 50 times in the forums, and if not him another staffer-- I know Cran's posted this several times in regards to the scroll library if nothing else), if they know someone else on staff will contact them if shit starts breaking? Is the problem that something is broken and no one was told to come online and fix it? Or is the problem just the fact that they haven't logged on subeta?
Because honestly, what difference does that make? Just because someone logged in today at some point doesn't mean they did anything? Would it make people feel better if all the staff programmers set up autorefreshers to refresh the site every 30 minutes so there's an illusion that someone is here?
Or is the problem that they're not here and there's bugs? Isn't the beta wardrobe full of ongoing bug issues... why is that pressing, unless neither wardrobe is working at all which incase it's not the programmers fault no one told them.
Also why was brought into this at all? (Rah, are you learning to program too?) (also hi, I'd love to talk to you about art :'D... lol!)
Tbh if I was the targeted group, I'd be removing that status from my profile asap.
PS: I'm really sorry to hear about your grandmother ):! I hope you're doing okay and everything ;A;
- I'll talk about art with ANYONE :D But yes, seriously, we have offsite apps and task managers where we do most of our discussion and work. Everything has been running pretty smoothly lately, I'm happy to say (art department wise). Some lovely things coming soon :D (I'm personally just doing a little update to the Riverside and Veta maps :D)
- I'd love to give more hints (like above!) as to what's being worked on, but I also really just like the surprise! Plus so many things change prior to release that I'd hate to be all 'look at this new thing we're working on!' and then that thing totally changes and people are left wondering on it. Like the bird watching feature - that almost got released around Vesnali, but then I felt like it wasn't quite right yet and we pushed it back to this month and added a whole new dimension to it.
I'd make a list of all of the reasons there should be programmers online, but I don't have to. All you have to do is look at the hundreds of posts in problems and bugs. Then look at the START dates of the hundreds of posts in problems and bugs and go "wow, doesn't look like much progress has been made on a number of things in an absurdly long time". Someone logging in doesn't mean something has been done, no. But someone NOT logging in DEFINITELY means nothing has been done.
Thing about Keith's "shitty internet" is that it's a bullshit excuse. I'm sorry, is Europe in the dark ages? Are there not libraries or coffee shops or homes with wifi? As a business owner, should he not have access to a mobile hot-spot of his own? If your business is online, you should be online. What was his excuse while he was living stateside? Different vacations? Travel ling? What. Honestly. What is a good excuse?
I don't care about the specific reasons why x,y,z haven't been online this week specifically over all of the other weeks. People have life. I get that. Shit, I was out of state twice last week for family funerals. I get it. I get that artists can work offline and programmers can write code offline (and I said that I get that the SubetaTeam acct is a bot... apparently the "lol" of that was lost in translation). But I think the work speaks for itself if you look around the site and look at what isn't working properly, what hasn't made any progress, and how well the changes that have been made DO work.
As for "targeted" (lol) members removing that part from their profile, go for it. It would only make them look worse. Like they DO have something to hide. Like they SHOULD be hiding how little they are online.
editing to add that I, admittedly, included Rah because as far as I had seen, for a while she was one of the most visible members of the team of staff subeta has. She posted regularly, interacted with players, and overall looked like she actually PLAYED the game she was working on. When that goes down hill it's hard not to notice, even if there is a reason.
