Heya! So I'm a bit of a doodler and am planning to get all my pets drawn ... eventually, but I'm a little confused: I know you can CODE an overlay onto pet and user profiles, but you can also pay 500csc to upload one instead. Is there any difference between using coded overlays and uploaded ones? Are there extra places that an uploaded overlay shows up?
Basically I'm wondering if it's worth me paying 500csc for something I think is possible to do in code, it would be quite a chunk of my allowance xD Thanks for your time :)
Uploading a custom overlay for 500csc makes it so the overlay appears in every part of the site possible, like in the training center, and everyone will see it regardless if they're on the pet's profile or not.
If you code the overlay onto the profile then you and everyone will only see the overlay when you visit the pet's profile.
As LuckBurnside said, the ones you pay CSC for appear in a lot more places. So it really depends on whether you want to be able to see it anywhere other than on the pet profile. Personally, I only use it for pets I know I'm not going to want to change their character down the road. I'd hate to have paid to upload an overlay, but then decide I don't like the character anymore and want to start over!
I adopted Granuaile from the pound and she has a paid custom overlay. The overlay has shown up everywhere where I can see her except for the pound.
In my opinion, it's not worth paying the amount, because the only places other people will see my pets is on their pet pages and on my profile. And I don't mind seeing their site forms.
But if you would like to see your overlay whenever you see your pet, then get the paid overlay.

yes. Though in the pound and on her adopt page she appeared as a common serpenth.

you should contact her previous owner and ask if you can use the overlay, as you didn't create it yourself or pay for it to be put in place.
Here is the previous owner, who I found through a quick Google search. They mentioned in the post I found that they drew the overlay themselves, I believe. So if you can't get in contact with them, you should probably file a ticket to have the overlay removed :)
Ah, thanks for the tip, and also for tracking down the previous owner for me. XD Fingers crossed I can get in touch with them.

Many thanks for the info and your different points of view. I think I'll hold off on purchasing for the time being, since I can code them into the public pages, or if I manage to save up enough SP for one (a big 'if' xD)
Thanks to too, saves me from asking about that if I ever adopt a pet with an overly ;)
