I'm very curious to know how others go about washing their hair.
Currently my problem is that I've been getting a lot of breakage, more than used to, and in my search for the right products for my hair I have found that it's much better for your hair if you wash it less often. I even found out that someone I know only washes their hair once a week and their hair is wonderful. I've always washed my hair every time I've showered, never missing more than a day.
I'm now thinking about cutting back on the shampoo for sure. If it will stop the breakage I am all for it. Now I just needs to figure out the best way to shower without getting my hair wet.
If you don't often/regularly wash your hair any tip, tricks, and whatever else you can add would be wonderful.
Please don't tell me I'm gross. That's just mean. ❤️
I tend to sweat a lot and my hair is really oily. I wash my hair everyday or every other day (if I have a class the day after, I wash everyday ..) If I skip a day, they look gross and they are quite heavy, it makes me uncomfy tbqh. I always had oily hair.. [Edit] I need to try the "dry" shampoo..
I think, in this case, every person is different. Do you have dry hair? Oily hair? That's a big factor on how often you need to wash it. My boyfriend can go a week without washing his hair and it looks fine but if I go 3 days mine starts to look oily, so I tend to wash my hair every other day ie wash my hair, skip a day, wash my hair, skip a day, and so on. Also if you have breakage then try finding a shampoo that works on that issue such as Pantene or OGX.
I usually wash my hair every other day, since after more than a day or two it becomes oily and looks noticeably unwashed! Everybody's hair is different, it seems. ^-^
I tend to wash my hair every other day, or every other couple of days (any more than that and I look like a greaser, haha!) I also use a shampoo without sulfates and it makes my hair feel lovely and soft. I also don't brush my hair very often because it looks really flat if I do it too much.
For showering without getting your hair wet I'd recommend the good ol' shower cap! They look ridiculous, but I mean... it's not like anyone is going to see you. And to help with the oily bits between shampoo-ing I would definitely try dry shampoo. It works wonders.
I wash my hair every 2-4 days. I can probably go a week without my hair getting greasy but it starts getting tangled by the 3rd day so I would probably have dreads by day 7. Since I have thick hair down to my butt I can't fit it in a shower cap, so I just put my hair up in a bun while I shower. It gets a little wet, but it's no big deal to me.
Every day. Lots of people have told me you can cut back to 1-2 times a week (and I believe it), but my hair gets so gross during the transition I haven't been able to push through it yet to the point where you can wash it less and it still gets clean.
Plus it gets super fucking hot in Australia and sometimes you just have to :[
It depends, usually every other day or every 2 days if I can. If I'm working more often I tend to wash it more often since I get hot at work and dry shampoo does not combat the oil my hair produces on those days.
I have naturally oily hair but when I washed my hair everyday it made my hair worse, strangely enough. Now, I usually wash my hair every other day or every 2-3 days or so if I have a "don't feel like washing it day."
I use a combination of shampoo bars and vinegar rinses for my hair.
I used to wash my hair every other or every third day, but I temporarily washed every day (except for Friday and Saturday), because I had in-job-learning period in clothing store. Now that it's over, I'm back to stretching washes, and I'm aiming to at least every third or fourth day. My hair is pretty thick, slightly wavy and naturally ashy dark brown with sun bleached high lights and ombre ;) My ends are dry because of too much washing, but I'm pretty sure I can nurture them back to what they were before.

I have fairly oily scalp, so I can skip every other day! My hair is dyed, though, so skipping a wash helps retain the color. Blasted red, it washes out so quickly! The boyfriend has rather curly hair and dry scalp, so he can skip more days and his curls just get lovelier whereas my hair just looks gross. I gave my sister some dry shampoo over the holidays thinking to let her test it out because she's a nurse AND a mom, so some mornings she may not have the time to wash and style her hair. She absolutely loved it when she needed it in a pinch -- I'd probably take it with me camping, haha XD

I've gotten booed, and hollered at many times when I tell other women this - I wash my hair everyday. I have very oily fine hair. Within this past year I switched to sulfate-free shampoos and my hair actually looks presentable all the way till the very end of the day. It is also shiner. I condition the ends, only, about every other day with conditioner made for my hair type. I've been having to condition my ends more lately because of winter and because I am growing out my hair. Do you condition?
Asking me to not wash my hair is like asking me not to wash my face. TMI - I have scalp issues because I am so oily. and dry shampoo, tried it...has a nasty cakey effect. ick!
Once a week, to be honest, but I get it wet between then.
Switch to a sulfate free shampoo AND silicone free conditioner, and see if that helps. Sulfates just dry everything out and make your hair a fuzzy, unmanageable mess. It'll take a little while for your scalp to stop overproducing oils that are usually stripped away by the sulfates, so wear your hair up for a while to hide the slightly extra greasiness. But it'll calm down before too long.
How are the vinegar rinses done? From my googling almost ever page mentions them but there's no real info on how it's done. The shampoo bar you use, is it from Lush?
I am working on the switch right now. For the last 3 years or so I have been using shampoo bars from Lush but they do have SLS in them so I am trying to find an alternative.I bought a different shampoo from Lush but I don't think it's the best for me, it leaves my hair feeling gross. I've yet to find anything with absolutely no sulfates in them. If you have any brand suggestions I'd love to hear.
I'm also buying some dry shampoo this weekend and a new brush since I'm overdue for a new one anyway.
If you live near a Sally's, they have a brand called Ion that's worked pretty well for me. There's also a brand at Walmart that's sulfate free. I've used their conditioner, which is silicone free, and I liked it a lot. It's called Organix.
I wash mine every other day. on days I don't wash it I still spay it down in the shower, just don't wash it. I stopped washing mine every day when I started having a itchy scalp due to over use of my shampoo. This works well for me.

There's a Sally's an hour away, so it's a bit too far. I've also read the Sally's in Canada isn't as good as it should be. The natural food store would be a good place to check, maybe? I've only gone there to buy tea or essential oils but they must have a section for stuff like shampoo and conditioner.
I don't have a natural food store near me, but you could always check. It does seem like a place that would have that. CVS also has the Organix line.
I just googled the Organix line and I've seen them everywhere I've ever looked for shampoo, so that's good. Thanks for all the help. :)
